Chapter 195 Lillian Received a Mysterious Video
Angela smacked Kelly's hand away. "Quit munching. Your grub's here."
When Kelly popped open the containers, the room was hit with mouth-watering aromas.
Lillian nibbled slowly. "Samantha's got that bossy vibe. First time I saw her, I was freaked out. But she's cool once you get to know her."
"Lillian, I'm taking some food to Melvin. You guys dig in," Kelly said, grinning as she left with the lunchbox.
With Kelly out, the convo got looser.
"I don't get how she's nice. Even with your crew around, she was all up in your face, only caring about the baby, not you," Angela scoffed. "You mother-in-law is so mean."
Wendy turned to Lillian, "Does Samantha have a beef with you?"
Lillian gave a bitter smile. "My plain background doesn't allow me to contribute much. It's normal she doesn't like me. I just try to stay in line so she can't complain."
"Good thing you don't live with her, and Alexander's good to you. Just avoid her," Wendy suggested.
"Yeah, I guess," Lillian nodded.
Angela shot back, "What's wrong with a plain background? Does that mean you gotta take her crap? Doesn't she know basic respect? Alexander married you, not her. Why does she need to like you?"
Lillian and Wendy stared at Angela, impressed. "Angela, you're awesome! But I don't have the guts to stand up to her."
"I'm not saying you should fight with Samantha. Just venting," Angela shrugged.
Wendy chimed in, "As long as Alexander treats Lillian right, that's what matters! Once they have a kid, they'll be a happy little family."
Lillian smiled. "Yeah, when I think about it, it does sound nice."
Suddenly, her phone buzzed with a message.
"Speak of the devil!" Wendy joked.
Lillian put down her fork and checked her phone. It wasn't from Alexander but a silent video.
In the video, on a rooftop, Alexander was sitting with Shae standing in front of him, wrapped in his arms, whispering something. The person who sent the video added subtitles: [Shae, I miss you so much.]
Her smile vanished as she watched the video on repeat. The camera was close, and Alexander's emotional look was crystal clear.
Lillian thought, 'Did he say he missed Shae? And they were sneaking around on the rooftop? This must've been on Amy's mom's birthday, right? So, why didn't he let me go with him?'
Lillian shut her eyes tight, feeling like her heart was getting pounded, causing unbearable pain, and her eyes welled up.
"Lillian, what's up?" Angela asked, noticing her silence. "Isn't it from Alexander?"
Lillian held back tears and forced a smile. "He says he's not coming tonight. He's staying home with Luke."
Angela didn't push further. Lillian picked up her fork and tried to eat, but her mood was shot. She barely managed a few more bites before putting down her fork.
"Why'd you stop eating?" Wendy asked.
Lillian leaned back. "Feeling kinda off. Maybe I yapped too much and drained my energy."
Angela eyed her and said to Wendy, "Lillian's wiped. Let's bounce and let her chill."
"No need. You can hang a bit longer," Lillian said, trying to be polite.
Angela started tidying up. "Get some rest. Once you're outta here, Wendy and I will swing by to chat."
Lillian, wanting some alone time, said, "Hit me up in the group chat when you get home. I won't be able to see you off."
Wendy added, "Just lie down and rest. If you're bored, drop a message in the group, and I'll reply when I can."
"I'll talk to Alexander about Caspian bugging you. He can sort it out," Lillian said.
"It's no biggie. Don't bother Alexander. I can handle it myself," Wendy smiled and left with Angela.
Lillian quickly grabbed her phone, opened the video, and watched it again, feeling hurt and pissed.
She tossed her phone onto the couch, glanced at it, then lay down and pulled the blanket over her head. In the darkness, her tears flowed silently.
At the bar, Evelyn glanced at Caspian. "You really chasing Wendy, or just messing around?"
"What's it to you?" Caspian said casually, crossing his legs. "Whether it's real or fake, we're about to break off the engagement. Why do you care?"
Tom, sitting nearby, laughed. "Every time we hang out, you talk about breaking off the engagement. It's been months, and it still hasn't happened."
Shae took a sip of her drink. "I think you just don't wanna break it off."
The four of them had coincidentally gathered for a drink. Shae and Evelyn had planned to go out and ran into Caspian and Tom, so they ended up together.
Caspian grinned at Tom and Shae. "You're both invited on April 1st at noon, at Sunset Villa."
"April Fool's Day! Is there even a ceremony for breaking off an engagement?" Tom asked, amused.
"Of course. When we got engaged, we invited half of Ridgewood. Now that we're breaking it off, we gotta invite them again to inform them and return the gifts," Caspian said.
Shae said, "Just post an announcement. Why make such a big deal out of it? Aren't you afraid of being embarrassed?"
"Mr. Wade is so grand. How could he feel embarrassed over such a small matter? People might even say he's honorable!" Evelyn said sarcastically.
She actually agreed with Shae. It wasn't something to be proud of. But when the two families met, he insisted on having a ceremony, saying it was about closure.
"Embarrassed? Since I fell for you, haven't I done enough embarrassing things?" Caspian laughed at himself. "You think skipping the ceremony would make me any less embarrassed? It's about closure, a formal goodbye."
