Chapter 415 Getting to Know You Again
"Wendy?" Patrick asked over the intercom.
Caspian cleared his throat and politely said, "It's me, Caspian. I'm bringing Wendy back."
"Why is it you?" Patrick asked in confusion as he opened the door.
Patrick and Jessica stood at the doorway. Molly, hearing footsteps, barked excitedly and ran around.
Caspian carried Wendy inside. Molly ran out, happily jumping up on his legs, her front paws resting on his legs as she looked up at him.
"What happened? Did she drink too much?" Jessica asked in a hushed voice, worried about the neighbors hearing.
Patrick said, "Let's go inside first."
In Wendy's room, Caspian gently laid her on the bed and told her to lie down.
Jessica came over, wrinkling her nose at the smell of alcohol on Wendy, and said disapprovingly, "Why did she drink so much? When did she learn to drink?"
After speaking, she instinctively glared at Caspian.
Caspian said, "Jessica, it wasn't me who taught her!"
"Let's go out," Jessica said, leading the way.
Molly sniffed around Wendy as if trying to wake her up.
"Molly!" Caspian clapped his hands to call her.
Molly obediently jumped into his arms.
"Good girl, don't disturb her. Let's go out first," Caspian said, carrying Molly out of the room.
Jessica went to the kitchen to get some hangover medicine for Wendy. Patrick gestured for Caspian to sit down, "Come, have a seat."
Caspian put Molly aside and sat upright, saying, "Patrick, tonight Wendy was out with Lillian and Angela, and they drank a bit too much. Lillian called me to bring her back."
Patrick nodded and asked, "Is Wendy troubled by something? She never drinks outside."
Caspian pondered for a moment and said, "Patrick, it wasn't because of me. Wendy and I broke up amicably, and we haven't been in touch much lately, so I'm not sure what's going on."
Patrick asked again, "She didn't say anything to you after drinking? I'm worried she might be bottling up something and can't talk to us about it. I'm afraid it might make her sick."
"Maybe it's just work stress," Caspian said vaguely.
He didn't feel it was his place to talk about her issues with Aaron; it was her private matter.
"Caspian!" Wendy suddenly shouted from the room, "I want water!"
Jessica hurried out of the kitchen and went to her room, "Water's coming!"
Caspian felt a bit awkward and said to Patrick, "Well, Patrick, if there's nothing else, I'll be going."
"Alright, take care," Patrick said, seeing him to the door and closing it behind him.
Looking at Molly sitting by the door, Patrick joked, "You really can't bear to see him go, can you?"
In Wendy's room, Jessica helped Wendy take off her coat. Patrick said, "Look at this, ever since she moved out, she's learned to drink."
"By the way, why did Caspian bring her back?"
Patrick said, "Lillian called him to bring her back. I tell you, when she wakes up tomorrow, don't scold her. I've noticed Wendy's been off lately, she might have something on her mind that she can't talk to us about. Watch your tone tomorrow."
"I think she hasn't gotten over Caspian. She called out for him just now," Jessica sighed, and the two left the room.
Caspian drove towards the hospital, he furrowed slightly, supporting his head with one hand, looking worried. Wendy's words tonight had deeply touched him, making him feel even more guilty towards her.
Back at the hospital, Joseph was already asleep. Evelyn was in the outer room, working on her laptop.
"You're back." Evelyn looked up and asked, "Did Alexander have news about Amos?"
"No, Lillian and the others were drinking at a bar and called me to take Wendy home," Caspian said, tiredly sinking into the sofa.
"Oh, that," Evelyn said, a bit disappointed.
Caspian lazily said, "They're already looking for Amos, there's no use worrying. What are you still working on? Go home."
"Just finishing up some of Joseph's company matters," Evelyn said, rubbing her eyes and stretching her neck.
Caspian said, "The board members have been appeased, the workers' compensation has been settled, and the shoddy projects have been rebuilt. Everything is getting back on track, we just need to catch Amos."
Evelyn stopped typing and looked at him, saying softly, "Thanks for your help. Without you, there's no way the Phillips Group would still be handling the projects."
"Amos won't get away!" Evelyn said with hatred when she mentioned him.
Caspian said, "We're friends, of course, I'll help you if I can."
Evelyn chuckled, "I used to think you were aimless, always hanging out, and can't compare to Alexander or Mr. Wellington. But this time, you've impressed me. I didn't know you had this side to you."
Caspian smiled indifferently, "You're an excellent businesswoman, but when it comes to love, you're like a fool, knowing nothing."
"That's how I got deceived," Evelyn said, shrugging helplessly, joking, "But this loss wasn't entirely without gain. At least I got to see a different side of you, realizing you're very capable!"
Caspian smiled without saying anything.
Evelyn looked at him, noticing that despite his smile, he seemed troubled, and asked, "Do you have something on your mind?"
"No," he replied dismissively, "just a bit tired."
Evelyn said, "Then go home. I can manage here. Get a good night's sleep."
Caspian thought for a moment, "Alright, it's late, you shouldn't be working so hard. I'll come by tomorrow."
After seeing Caspian off, Evelyn returned, thinking about what he had said, and sighed to herself, "I don't understand! Caspian is quite good! Was I blind before?"
The next morning, Jessica woke Wendy up early.
"You'll be late for work, get up," Jessica said, pulling the blanket off her and leaving the room.
Wendy groaned, "My head hurts."
Molly sat in front of her, wagging her tail and barking.
"Molly, good morning," Wendy said, patting her head, still feeling dizzy as she got out of bed.
She leaned on the bed and suddenly felt something. She picked it up and saw it was a phone, but not hers. Confused, she turned it over and saw a phone case with a double happiness symbol. Shocked, she recognized it as Caspian's phone.
