Chapter 287 I'm Not Trying to Escape
The noisy bar.
Caspian nestled on the couch, looking at the message from Wendy, and replied, [I'm home now, and you're still up?]
[Can't sleep, I want to tell you something.] She quickly replied.
[Go ahead, what is it?]
Wendy stared at her phone, feeling a bit embarrassed, and sent a message saying, [In a fit of anger, I told my parents you are my boyfriend.]
Caspian read the message and shook his head, amused.
Next to him, Tom leaned over to look at his phone and asked, "Who are you chatting with so happily? Is she the new girl you're hitting on?"
"Get lost!" Caspian pushed his head away and continued to reply to Wendy, [It's fine, just consider it payback for me using you before.]
Tom and Theodore were drinking, and Tom asked for advice, "Theodore, why are women so hard to pursue? Teach me!"
Theodore held his glass to his mouth, glanced at him, and asked, "Angela?"
"Yes." Tom said with a mournful face, sighing, "She's too difficult to pursue."
Theodore sneered, "How are you different now compared to the old Caspian? If she doesn't like you, just give up. I've interacted with Dr. Turner a few times, she's strong-willed and straightforward. You two are not compatible."
"You've interacted with her?" Tom asked curiously, "About what?"
"Work," Theodore said vaguely.
Previously, a patient who had given Angela perfume was introduced to Theodore by Angela. After a brief interaction, he felt she wasn't the woman he was looking for. Although he didn't know her appearance, he had a feeling she wasn't the one.
But he didn't expect that patient to cling to him afterward and even boldly confessed, wanting to date him. Theodore straightforwardly rejected her, claiming he already liked someone else. But the female patient didn't give up and always "coincidentally" ran into him in various places.
"Angela is indeed very strong-willed," Tom admitted, stroking his chin.
Theodore had no time to deal with his emotional issues, he was still clueless about his own. The woman from that night wasn't the female patient, which broadened the scope too much. Angela had given perfume to many people, so where should he start looking?
He wondered, 'Could it be Angela?'
Caspian was still messaging Wendy on Facebook, advising:[Take your time talking to your parents about work. Get some sleep, you have work tomorrow.]
Wendy sent a goodnight emoji, turned off her phone, and placed it under her pillow. After chatting with Caspian, she felt better. She needed to chat with her parents and didn't want to be controlled by them anymore.
The next day, Wendy got up early, washed up, and came out of her room. Jessica had already set breakfast on the table. She sat down silently and quietly ate her breakfast.
After a while, Jessica finally spoke sternly, "Wendy, I want you to quit your job today and break up with your boyfriend. I hope you can accomplish both of these things."
Wendy lowered her head, eating the meal without saying a word.
Patrick said, "Wendy, regarding your job, after discussing with your mom, we think we can reach out to some acquaintances to help you get back to work. Where there are people, there are disputes, both visible and invisible. So, you need to learn to accept and adapt, not just avoid. You will thank us for what we've done for you in the future."
"Dad, I like my current job. I'm not trying to avoid anything, this is the right choice for me." Wendy looked at Patrick with determined eyes, wanting them to feel her unwavering resolve.
Seeing her stubborn attitude, Jessica angrily said, "You're still young, what do you know? Can we harm you? No matter what you say, we won't agree. You must quit your job today, and I'll take you back to your original position this afternoon."
Wendy had grown up under Jessica's domineering, having to obey her in everything. But now, she didn't want to listen anymore. She deeply resented Jessica's commanding tone and her domineering nature.
"Mom, I'm sorry, but I can't listen to you. I have my dreams and my life, I don't want to live for you forever!"
Wendy spoke righteously, looking at them, and finally said solemnly, "Dad, Mom, I'm 25 years old now. I have my life plans. I want to live my own life, and I hope you won't interfere. Changing jobs and who I dateare personal matters, and I will handle them in my way. Please don't interfere."
"Wendy!" Jessica was furious, slamming the fork on the table, "No matter how old you are, you're still my daughter! If I didn't manage you, would you have grown up this much? When I say no, there's no room for negotiation!"
"Mom!" Wendy shouted angrily, "Why are you so domineering towards me!"
She then looked at Patrick, dissatisfied, and said, "Dad, say something!"
Patrick first comforted Wendy a bit, then said to Jessica, "Talk to her slowly. We're doing this for her good, but your approach makes it seem a bit forceful."
" Does she accept it? I talk to her nicely, does she listen?" Jessica said angrily, "Wendy, I'm telling you, these two things in your life, you must listen to us, there is no room for negotiation!"
Wendy's anger also surged. She stood up, the chair making a harsh noise, and shouted, "Then I'll tell you, from now on, I will make all the decisions in my life, and I won't listen to you anymore!"
After shouting, she felt relieved, venting all the years of pent-up grievances. But at the same time, tears streamed down her face. She wiped away her tears forcefully, grabbed her bag, and ran out of the house, slamming the door loudly behind her.
Jessica clutched her chest, sat down on the chair, gasping, and said to Patrick, "Look, How dare she speak to me in that tone?"
Patrick also had some complaints about Jessica, "It's because of your bad attitude."
Jessica glared at him, "I think she just wants to rebel against us. What does it have to do with attitude?"
Wendy walked quickly with her head down, occasionally wiping away tears. Jessica was too much she never listened to her thoughts.
As she exited the community gate, she suddenly heard someone calling her, "Wendy!"
She instinctively turned to look and saw Caspian leaning against the car, smiling and waving at her. The morning sunlight bathed him, making him appear as if he were gilded in gold, dazzling.
She blinked, and at that moment, she found Caspian incredibly handsome!
