Chapter 258 Beatrice and Blake's Night Talk

Blake stumbled home, feeling dizzy. Nico was still awake, and seeing him come back drunk made her even angrier. She threw a pillow at him and cursed, "Why did you come back so drunk?"

"This is my home. Where else would I go?" Blake said with a sullen face. "I'm telling you. I'm in a bad mood. Don't provoke me."

"I'm in a bad mood, too!" Nico shouted, her voice sharp. "Don't provoke me either!"

"I can't be bothered to provoke you," Blake said as he walked into the bathroom.

A Facebook notification popped up on the phone lying on the bed. Nico picked it up and saw a message from a woman: [Blake, I saw you at the bar just now, looking very close to a girl. Hang out with me sometime, or I'll send this picture to Nico.]

Nico hurriedly opened the picture. In this picture, Blake was sitting, holding a girl's wrist, and they were looking at each other. She zoomed in and saw the girl's face. It was Shae.

"Blake, you lied to me!" she shouted angrily, throwing the phone against the door.

Blake came out of the bathroom and immediately saw the shattered phone on the floor. He bent down to pick it up and asked Nico, confused, "Did you throw this?"

"Blake, what do you mean by this? You lied to me about going out with friends, but you were actually on a date with Shae," Nico questioned furiously. "Explain yourself. What were you doing at the bar with Shae?"

Blake, unfazed by the questioning, checked the phone to see if it still worked, though the screen was badly cracked. Seeing the previous message, he scoffed indifferently and tossed the phone aside.

"It's nothing. I'm chatting and drinking," he said calmly.

"Then, why were you holding her hand?" Nico asked angrily. "You're shameless. Alexander didn't want her, and you went after her. Do you have any self-respect?"

"Say that again!" Blake was enraged and slapped Nico hard.

Nico shouted, "Am I wrong? How many disgusting things have you done behind my back? If it weren't for you, would we have lost our child? Now I'm recovering at home, and you're out dating Shae. Do you think that's fair to me? How can you be so shameless?"

"Don't blame me for the miscarriage!" Blake shouted back. "Now that I'm down, "How dare you defy me? Don't dream of lording it over me at home, no matter how down and out I am!"

Nico found his words laughable. "You make a mistake, and when I point it out, you say I'm lording it over you. Blake, I've figured you out. You're only tough at home. You're not even at home but in front of me. In front of others, you're weak, acting like a complete loser. I've never seen anyone as useless as you!"

Blake shouted, "Shut up!"

Already upset from his encounter with Shae, Blake was now being mocked and ridiculed by Nico. His pent-up anger turned into force, and he slapped her hard.

Nico, who had been sitting, fell onto the bed from the blow. She covered her face and stubbornly said, "Blake, you're a coward. You're weak!"

Beatrice heard the commotion from her room and came to see what was happening.

"What's going on? Why are you arguing instead of sleeping?" Beatrice asked.

Nico cried and replied, "Beatrice, I can't live like this. I've had a miscarriage, but Blake doesn't care. He goes out in the middle of the night to date Shae. How can I not be angry?"

She continued crying, "I scolded him a bit, and he slapped me! Tell me. What did I do wrong?"

Blake, annoyed by the noise, got up and left the room.

Beatrice saw Nico's slightly swollen cheek and tried to console her, "Blake was wrong to hit you. I'll teach him a lesson later. I know you're upset about the miscarriage, but you need to understand Blake's feelings, too. Is he in a good mood? As his wife, shouldn't you share his burdens? Besides, he might have run into Shae at the bar. Don't be too sensitive."

Nico retorted, "They were being intimate. There's a picture to prove it. Their relationship is not normal."

"Don't be too sensitive. I know Blake. He wouldn't be interested in Shae Alexander rejected. Don't overthink it."

Beatrice sighed and said, "I'll get you some ice to reduce the swelling, or it'll be worse by morning."

She brought Nico some ice and told her to get some rest before leaving the room. On the balcony, she found Blake, who was smoking moodily behind the glass door.

"Blake," Beatrice called softly as she pushed the door open and walked in.

Blake turned to look at her and said, "Mom, go to bed. I'm fine. I'll go to sleep after this cigarette."

"What are you thinking about?" Beatrice asked, slowly taking a cigarette from the pack and holding it between her fingers. She lit it from Blake's cigarette and took a deep drag, then coughed twice.

"Mom, how long has it been since you smoked? It would help if you didn't smoke," Blake said, patting her back.

Beatrice waved her hand, indicating she was fine, and said wistfully, "Back in the day, to maintain a good image in front of Ethan, I didn't smoke or drink. Even after we got together, I didn't dare smoke openly. I wanted to smoke every day. Now that I'm older, I don't crave it anymore. With one puff, I find it harsh."

"Then, don't smoke," Blake said, grabbing the cigarette from her hand and stomping it out on the ground.

"Blake," Beatrice said meaningfully. "life is like this cigarette. If you make people addicted to you, thinking about you every day, you've succeeded. However, if they find you harsh and don't want you, you've failed. Right now, you're harsh to Justin and Ethan. Have you thought about what to do next?"

Blake took a deep drag of his cigarette and said, "Mom, I'm not saying this out of anger. I admit I'm not as capable as Alexander. What can I do? I want to kill them all and become the new head of the Sinclair family!"

Beatrice smiled as if she had heard a child's naive words and said slowly, "Your idea is simple but not the best. Killing them would land us in prison. That's not worth it. Blake, I've always told you to think twice before acting, but you never listen. This time, Alexander outsmarted you. Shouldn't you learn from this, summarize your mistakes, and give him a beautiful counterattack?"
