Chapter 64 A Good Thing
Lillian hurriedly asked, "What time is the meteor shower? I want to watch too."
"Uncle Alexander said we have to wait until midnight," Luke said. "Lillian, if you want to watch, we'll call you when we go to the rooftop."
Lillian had never seen a meteor shower before. She couldn't even see a shooting star once every few years.
"Okay, don't forget to call me. I'll take a nap first." Lillian said.
Lillian's voice was playing out loud, and both Alexander and Oscar heard it.
"Your sister is already sleeping," Alexander said mockingly, bending down to tinker with the telescope.
Oscar laughed and said, "She definitely won't be able to wake up by then."
Luke sat on a small chair on the side and said unhappily, "Lillian said she wants to watch. She will definitely wake up."
"Do you want to take a nap first? It'll take a long time. Can you hold on?" Oscar held his hand and walked downstairs. Then he continued, "I'll take a nap with you in your room first and wake you up at midnight."
"Oscar, I need you to keep me company."
Alexander adjusted the telescope and sat down on the rooftop lounge chair. The sky was dark and deep. He remembered the last time he watched a meteor shower. It was still on the mountain.
Memories came sweeping back to Alexander.
"Come here! The meteors even have colors!"
"What wish did you make?"
"Am I in your wish? Am I in the top three?"
The girl's innocent smile and gentle voice touched his heart deeply.
Alexander thought to himself, ‘How time flies! It's been a year.’
Suddenly, a shooting star streaked across the sky, shining brightly on this peaceful night.
"Wow! A shooting star!" a neighboring girl shouted.
Alexander slowly sat up and looked through the telescope, catching a glimpse of the shooting star for a few seconds.
"Alexander!"
Oscar arrived on the rooftop and saw the shooting star in the sky. He was also excited and quickly sent a message to Lillian, "Lillian, come to the rooftop quickly!" He sent her four messages but didn't receive a reply.
Alexander said, "Stop calling her. She's definitely asleep."
"I told you she wouldn't wake up," Oscar sighed and put his phone back in his pocket.
Only Alexander and Oscar were able to enjoy this shooting star.
The next morning, Lillian listened to Oscar's voicemail in the middle of the night and regretfully said, "Why did I fall asleep?"
Luke was also frustrated about missing the opportunity to watch the Shooting Star, but he didn't dare get angry with Alexander, so he vented his complaints to Oscar.
"Alright, don't be angry. I didn't see it either," Lillian patted Luke's shoulder.
"They are so annoying. I won't play with them anymore," Luke said angrily.
Alexander came downstairs and gave a loud sneeze.
Lillian noticed he looked tired and asked with concern, "Did you catch a cold while watching the meteor shower last night?"
Alexander rubbed his nose, shook his head, and went to the dining room.
Gina saw that he had caught a cold, so she cooked chicken soup for him to drink. Alexander drank the chicken soup and went to work.
A week passed, but Alexander's cold didn't improve. Instead, it worsened. He had a sore throat, and his voice became hoarse.
Kelly and Melvin were discharged from the hospital and returned home. Melvin's condition had improved a lot, and he only needed to go to therapy twice a week. Gina went back to Sinclair Villa, but before leaving, she made a hearty lunch for Luke.
"Kelly, I don't know why, but you feel like family to me. I feel at ease when you're back," Lillian leaned on Kelly's shoulder and said softly.
Kelly patted her head and said, "In the two weeks I was away, you got injured, and Mr. Sinclair caught a cold. Luckily, Gina was here. Otherwise, you wouldn't even have food to eat!"
"I'm glad you're back. My injury is almost healed, and I can go back to work next week. Alexander caught a bad cold, but he refused to go to the hospital or take medicine." Lillian replied.
"Didn't he listen to your persuasion?" Kelly asked.
Lillian was surprised and said, "I did show concern when he first got sick, but then I stopped caring about it. Gina told me about all this." She stuck out her tongue and continued, "I dare not talk to him. He always looks serious and ignores me. I don't want to get into trouble."
"I will go talk to him later. He can hardly speak now, but he stubbornly refuses to go to the hospital." Kelly said.
Kelly's return brought a warm feeling back to the house and improved Lillian's mood.
In the afternoon, Lillian suddenly received a text message on her phone. She opened it and saw her salary income. Looking at the numbers on it, Lillian covered her mouth in astonishment. She couldn't believe that her salary was over thirty thousand dollars. Her salary was only $6500 per month in the past!
Lillian worried that her salary had been mispaid. After thinking about it, she called Taylor. Taylor told her that the extra money was a bonus!
Lillian happily twirled around in her room. She thought to herself, ‘That's great. I have such a big bonus. Big companies are great, so generous!’
She calmed down and sent a message to Oscar asking him to come over.
"Lillian, what's up?" Oscar asked.
"I have good news!" Lillian burst into laughter.
Oscar smiled and asked, "What's the good news? Tell me!"
"I received my salary, plus a bonus. Over thirty thousand dollars!" After Lillian finished speaking, she burst into laughter again.
"So much? That's great!" Oscar also laughed happily with her.
After a while, Lillian started talking about business.
"From this money, I'll first give Alexander ten thousand dollars for repayment, then give Aunt Lisa three thousand dollars. If I give her more, she'll think we have a great fortune. And the remaining twenty thousand dollars for future surgery." Lillian explained.
"Okay, Lillian, it's all up to you!" Oscar agreed. Then he mysteriously said to her, "Lillian, I actually have some good news to tell you, too."
"What?" Lillian asked excitedly.
Seeing Lillian's anticipation, Oscar felt a little shy. He scratched the back of his head and said, "I made a few thousand dollars by doing graphic design online."
"Really?" Lillian cried excitedly. "Oscar, you are amazing. You can even make money."
As the end of the year approached, good things finally came their way, and their mood improved a lot.
Alexander had been busy these past few days, even when he was sick. He never slackened in his work. He came home late at night, and Kelly made some soup for him. She was about to bring it up, but Lillian stopped her.
"Kelly, I'll go." Lillian took the tray and went upstairs.
