Chapter 286 Wendy's Rebellion
"What?" Jessica asked in astonishment from behind, "Wendy, what did you say?"
Wendy shivered in fear and quickly turned around, "Mom, why did you come down? I didn't say anything just now."
Jessica maintained a stern face, not wanting to be ridiculed by Caspian, and it wouldn't be good if the neighbors heard about it. She grabbed Wendy's hand and said, "Come home with me."
Wendy was pulled back by Jessica, looking back at Caspian in fear, her eyes filled with terror. Caspian waved at her, indicating he couldn't help, and wished her good luck.
Back home, Wendy sat on the couch with her head lowered, avoiding eye contact with Jessica and Patrick. Molly slowly crawled into her lap as if trying to comfort her.
The mess on the coffee table had been cleaned up, and the beer cans were put in a plastic bag by the door. Patrick was packing in the room, and Jessica, with a stern face, stood at the door calling him out.
"Did he leave?" Patrick asked casually, sitting on the couch.
Jessica crossed her arms, looking displeased, glaring at Wendy opposite her, and angrily said, "Let's not talk about you bringing a man home to drink first. Explain to us why you resigned from your job. Such a big thing, what's going on?"
Patrick asked in confusion, "Resigned? Did Wendy resign?"
Jessica took a deep breath and said, "Yes, she resigned. I heard it myself. She just told Caspian!"
Patrick also showed a hint of displeasure and asked, "Why did you resign? Wasn't that job good?"
Wendy said softly, "In the eyes of others, that job was good and stable, not easily laid off. But in my eyes, I didn't like it, and I don't think this job is good. Everyone in the office had their ideas, and I was very tired."
Jessica said, "That's how work is. You have to learn to adapt. Once you get used to it, you won't feel tired."
"Once I adapt, I'll be just like them. I don't want to be deceitful!" Wendy said with disgust.
"So, that's your reason for resigning?" Jessica said angrily, "Now, Who doesn't work for their benefit? This is something you have to face and adapt to. You can't just run away because you don't like it. You're not a child anymore!"
Wendy argued, "Mom, I'm indeed not a child anymore, but in your and Dad's eyes, you still treat me as a child. Why don't you ask if I like my current job? I can adapt to these, but it has to be in an environment I enjoy."
"So, Do you like your current job? What is it?" Jessica asked.
Wendy said, "It's a studio, mainly doing home decor design."
"It's just a job working for someone else, yet you're still so happy. I wonder if your brain is fried." Jessica leaned back on the couch, sarcastically saying to Patrick.
Patrick, who had been silent all along, said to Jessica, "Watch your tone."
He looked at Wendy and asked, "When did you resign?"
"Before Christmas, I didn't tell you guys," Wendy said timidly, facing her father's stern gaze.
Jessica shouted again, "Before Christmas? You've been hiding it from us for so long. Wendy, are you not listening to us anymore?"
Wendy said seriously to Jessica, "Mom, it's not that I'm not listening to you. I've grown up. I'm an adult now, and I have the right to decide what job I want to do. Mom, please stop treating me like a child, okay?"
"Then what about that guy just now? Is he your boyfriend? When did you start dating him?" Jessica asked angrily.
Patrick frowned slightly and said, "Calm down and talk to Wendy nicely. Wendy is so obedient, she wouldn't start a relationship without telling us."
Wendy pressed her lips tightly. "Wendy is so obedient" echoed in her ears. From childhood to adulthood, whether it was family or neighbors, they would always praise her as "obedient" first.
But no one knew she didn't want to be an obedient girl. Facing Patrick's sternness and Jessica's dominance, she didn't want to be controlled anymore. She wanted to decide her own life, to rebel, to confront, to live authentically.
Wendy said, "Yes, we started dating before Christmas. He's a friend of Lillian's husband, and he's very good to me."
At this moment, Wendy felt the joy of rebellion for the first time. It turned out that rebellion was so delightful!
Jessica seemed to be hit hard, almost fainting, "No wonder you kept making excuses not to go on blind dates. You secretly got a boyfriend behind our backs. Do you even care about me?"
Patrick said, "Wendy, you've grown up. It's okay to have a relationship. But why didn't you tell us about it?"
"I didn't want to say it because I felt you wouldn't agree." She glanced at Jessica and continued, "Mom always introduced me to blind dates with either your colleagues' kids or doctors. My boyfriend's family runs a business. Would you agree?"
Indeed, they wouldn't. Patrick was quite proud and looked down on those in business, whereas Jessica felt that wealthy people were unreliable, preferring the stability of an ordinary family background.
"I don't agree with you dating your boyfriend." Jessica suddenly stood up and said firmly, "There's no discussion on this matter!"
"It's too late today. Let's talk about it tomorrow." She said to Patrick, "Let's go to bed."
Jessica had just reached the bedroom door when she suddenly stopped, turned around, and stared sharply at Wendy, asking sternly, "I ask you, have you two...?"
"Have what?" Wendy didn't catch Jessica's vague words and asked in confusion.
Jessica pursed her lips, "Have you two had sex?"
Wendy blushed and said angrily, "No! With you guys watching me so closely, how would I dare?"
"Even if you dare, it's not allowed!" Jessica pushed the door and entered the bedroom.
Patrick slowly stood up, sighed, and said to her with a hint of disappointment, "Let's go to bed."
Wendy bit her lip lightly and stood up, still looking down, not daring to look at him, and asked softly, "Dad, are you disappointed in me?"
Patrick said, "Go to sleep, don't overthink."
Wendy lay in bed, still feeling excited, but on the other hand, seeing Jessica and Patrick angry made her feel a bit bad. She tossed and turned, unable to sleep, took out her phone from under the pillow, and sent a message to Caspian on Facebook.
[Did you get home?]
