Chapter 256 Adam's Wishes Come True
"What? A year?" Adam shouted. "Alexander, forget a year. I can't even last a month. For the sake of the two unborn children, please stop torturing me."
Alexander peeled a plate of nuts and eagerly brought them to Lillian. He didn't forget to ask Adam, "Since you don't want to work in the warehouse, what do you want to do?"
Hearing there was room for negotiation, Adam quickly followed Alexander, opened the balcony door, and trailed behind him, grinning. He asked, "Is there any job that's not too tiring? I can do anything."
"I'd like an easy job, too." Alexander sneered, stopping to look at him, and said, "Can you drive? How about being a driver for the company? Can you do that?"
"Of course. I can drive!" Adam responded happily. "I'm very skilled at driving. This job suits me."
"Then, in a few days, come to work and drive for Bradley. Go directly to his office," Alexander said.
"Okay!" Adam replied joyfully, unconsciously putting his arm around Alexander's shoulder. "Thank you so much."
"Get off!" Alexander unceremoniously knocked his arm away and said. "Being a driver isn't a free ride."
Adam's eyes twinkled with understanding, and he said mysteriously, "I'll follow your orders."
Alexander entered the room and saw Lillian lying on the bed, watching a comedy show on her tablet and laughing non-stop. He walked over, took the tablet, and locked the screen, complaining, "Aren't your eyes tired from watching for so long? Although you're wearing radiation-proof clothing, it can't block everything. You need to control yourself."
Lillian sheepishly said, "I haven't been watching for that long."
Alexander picked up a nut and put it in her mouth. He asked, "Are you still arguing? I've been timing you; it's been almost two hours. Isn't that long?"
Lillian chewed and chuckled. She said, "You're strict!"
"I heard Adam laughing outside. Did you give him some benefit again?" She asked curiously.
Alexander replied, "I transferred him from the warehouse to be a driver for the Whale Group. Of course, he's happy."
Lillian was surprised and then said, "Now he doesn't have to do hard labor. No wonder he's happy."
Lisa had prepared many dishes that day. Before dinner, she said to Lillian, "Lillian, call Oscar over now. He can eat as soon as he arrives."
Lillian knew Oscar didn't want to come, so she made an excuse, "He's out with friends today. Let's eat without him."
"How's Oscar doing lately? Is his health improving? Has he had the surgery?" Harry, sitting nearby, asked with concern.
Lillian replied, "He's doing well. He's been staying with me and has even gained some weight. The doctor who will perform the surgery had some family issues, but he'll be able to do it soon."
"That's good," Harry said. Seeing their prosperous life, he had no more worries.
The dinner atmosphere was great, with Adam initiating topics. Everyone was chatting and laughing. Although Lola was still very enthusiastic towards Alexander, she didn't give Lillian the cold shoulder. Lisa's current excessive concern was a stark contrast to her previous attitude.
After dinner, Lillian and Alexander sat for a while before leaving. Adam escorted them downstairs. As they exited the community gate, they saw Leo coming out from the side gate, making eye contact with Lillian.
"Leo," she greeted him warmly with a wave.
Leo nodded slightly, a tired smile on his face, and asked hoarsely, "Lillian, did you come back today? Long time no see. Your belly is so big now."
"Long time no see," Lillian noticed he didn't look well and asked. "Leo, how have you been lately?"
"Not bad," Leo glanced at Alexander and said. "Are you leaving? I won't hold you up then. Bye."
Seeing his sad look, Lillian asked Adam, "Is he having a tough time lately? He looks so different."
Adam replied, "Debra passed away. It hit him hard. Every time I see him, he looks so down."
Lillian asked, "What? Did Debra pass away? How did it happen so quickly?"
"She had cancer, so it progressed quickly." Adam opened the car door for her. "She's been gone for a while now. Don't worry, and he'll get through it."
Lillian looked in the direction Leo had left, feeling quite sad. She took the few cash bills she had in her bag and handed them to Adam. She said, "Give this to him when you get a chance. It's a little something from me. Debra was very kind to me when she was alive. I feel really bad for not attending her funeral."
Adam took the money and said, "Don't worry, and I'll give it to him."
After getting in the car, Lillian felt a bit down. She had a deep bond with Debra's family, and her passing broke her heart. If she hadn't married Alexander and if Leo had pursued her earlier, they might have been a family by now.
Fate worked in mysterious ways.
Alexander said nothing, holding her hand tightly in his, offering silent comfort and reassurance.
After Beatrice and Blake returned home, they brought Nico back. Now that their financial situation had worsened, they had to be very careful with their spending for the future.
Nico learned from Blake about Ethan's punishment and realized that Blake had no chance of coming back. She began to consider her future. Initially, when she had the child, she thought she could fight against Alexander. However, now that the child was gone, what could she use to fight him? It was more important to protect herself.
In the evening, after a simple dinner, the family went to their rooms. Blake, holding his phone in the kitchen, hesitated for a moment before calling Shae.
"Mr. Sinclair, you're calling so late. Is there something you need?" Shae's soft voice on the phone aroused Blake's desire.
He composed himself, sat on a barstool, and scratched his eyebrow with one hand, unsure of how to start. Being demoted to a branch office was very embarrassing. Besides, he didn't want her to leave. He was conflicted.
"Well, don't come to work tomorrow," Blake said with difficulty.
Shae asked curiously, "Why? Did something happen?"
