Chapter 178 Give Me an Explanation
After breakfast, the three of them left the house and took Luke to see the psychologist.
On the way, Luke looked puzzled and asked, "Uncle Alexander, why does Dr. Thompson miss me? I'm not her friend."
"But to her, you are a friend," Alexander replied. "You'll have a good chat with her when we get there."
"Okay..." Luke seemed a bit uneasy.
Noticing his reluctance, Lillian asked softly, "What's wrong? Don't you like Dr. Thompson?"
"It's not that, I just don't like going to her office," Luke fidgeted with his fingers before reassuring himself. "It'll be fine. After this, we're going to the amusement park, so it shouldn't take too long."
Lillian ruffled his hair with a sympathetic look. She knew this visit to the therapist was to help Luke sleep independently. A pang of reluctance rose in her heart, but it passed quickly.
They arrived at the psychologist's office, and the friendly receptionist greeted Luke warmly before leading them to Dr. Thompson's door.
"Go on in, Dr. Thompson is waiting for you. Lillian and I will be right here," Alexander patted Luke's shoulder encouragingly. "You've got this!"
"Good luck!" Lillian added, clenching her fist to cheer him on.
Encouraged, Luke smiled and entered the office.
"How long will it take?" Lillian asked.
"Not sure. If you're uncomfortable, you can wait in the car," Alexander replied.
"No, we promised to wait here. If Luke comes out and doesn't see me, he'll be disappointed," Lillian said.
Alexander chuckled. "Don't push yourself. If you're uncomfortable, wait in the car. You're still taking prenatal vitamins."
"Okay, I won't," Lillian said, then turned to him with a smile. "Alexander, I've noticed you're getting more talkative with me. You used to speak in short phrases, but now you repeat yourself. It's like you're a different person."
"What other changes have you noticed? Tell me," Alexander asked.
"You're just getting nicer to me." Lillian pouted. "Is that what you wanted to hear?"
"Who doesn't like being praised?" Alexander took her hand affectionately. "You didn't ask me yesterday, so I didn't tell you about Shae. I've already warned her not to do anything to hurt you. I also made it clear to her that I've always seen her as a sister."
Lillian hadn't asked yesterday, not because she wasn't curious, but because she felt that asking would make her look bad. That was why she had held back. He hadn't said anything on the way back yesterday, and she thought he wouldn't mention it again. Who knew he would suddenly tell her like this?
She was so surprised that she could only respond with a dazed "Huh?"
Alexander chuckled, "What kind of reaction is that?"
"A normal one, I guess," Lillian said. "After hearing what you said, she'll probably hate me even more, right?"
"These things needed to be said," Alexander comforted her. "Don't worry too much and focus on taking care of yourself and the baby. I'll handle everything."
"Don't forget what you promised me. If everything is normal at the end of next month's check-up, you'll let me go back to work."
"I meant we'll see after the check-up. We have to ask the doctor if it's okay, right?"
"You know that's what you meant!"
"Look at you, getting upset again. I'm just responsible for you and the baby."
"I don't want to hear it. Just stop talking."
The two bantered back and forth, one reasoning and the other being unreasonable, just like any other couple filled with love.
At Moonlight Studio, Caspian stepped out of his car and limped inside. The front desk clerk looked concerned and asked, "Mr. Wade, what happened to you?"
"Where's Ms. Phillips?" Caspian demanded, adding, "I'm like this because of Ms. Phillips' great work!"
"Ms. Phillips is in a meeting. Would you like to wait here for a moment?"
"I'll wait in her office," Caspian said, limping quickly towards the office before the receptionist could respond.
It was rare for Caspian to visit when Evelyn was in a meeting. Whenever he came, he would be ushered out of her office soon after arriving. This time, he was lucky to avoid the embarrassment and annoyance of being kicked out. He sat on the sofa, leisurely playing on his phone while waiting for Evelyn to return.
About an hour later, Evelyn finally came back. Seeing Caspian in her office, she asked impatiently, "What are you doing here on a weekend?"
"You know it's the weekend, yet you still have your employees working. You're really something as a boss..." Caspian trailed off, noticing Evelyn's cold stare. He quickly changed his tone. "I mean, you're really successful!"
"Do you have something to say or not? If not, get out before I kick you out again," Evelyn said, busy with work as she spoke to him.
Caspian slowly stood up and limped towards her desk, groaning in pain. He said, "Ms. Phillips, you need to give me an explanation for my leg, don't you think?"
"What explanation do you want? Are you addicted to playing the injured party now?" Evelyn retorted.
"What do you mean, it's fake?" Caspian retorted. "You can't just kick someone and walk away without any responsibility! I'm still dealing with major issues in my personal life. Who would want to be with me if I end up like this?"
"Oh, come on. You're rich and handsome—there will always be plenty of women who don't mind," Evelyn shot back with a sarcastic edge. "Didn't you just get yourself a new girlfriend yesterday? Did you forget about her already? Did you call her today?"
Caspian hadn't forgotten about that incident after sobering up. He'd used the woman to get under Evelyn's skin, and now he couldn't even recall her name.
"Thinking about your girlfriend's name, are you?" Evelyn suddenly interjected. "Her name's Wendy. She's a new intern—very honest and naive. Just think about it; you practically clung to her yesterday. She must have been terrified. I'm actually going easy on you!"
Before Caspian could respond, there was a knock at the door. Evelyn called, "Come in," and Wendy walked in, balancing a stack of files.
"Ms. Phillips, here are all the design drafts from last night to now. We've made some changes for the 'Winter Harmony' theme. Please take a look." Wendy placed the files on the desk, finally noticing Caspian.
Her eyes widened in surprise as she exclaimed, "What are you doing here?"
Evelyn nodded toward Caspian. "Wendy."
Caspian quickly reassured her, "Don't worry, I'm not here for you. I just wanted to apologize for yesterday. I had a bit too much to drink."
"I can see that. Maybe you should cut back on the drinking," Wendy said politely. She turned to Evelyn and said, "Ms. Phillips, I'll leave you to it then." With a nod toward Caspian, she left the office.
Caspian leaned back in his chair, crossing his legs with a smirk. "After a night of heavy drinking, I completely forgot what she looked like. But seeing her today, she's actually quite attractive. Maybe I should consider pursuing her as a girlfriend."
