Chapter 208 Shae's Crazy Idea
Lillian smirked. "Ms. Anderson, why you gotta stir the pot? If you have something to say, take it up with Alexander. Ask him if he loves me or the kid. Our marriage ain't your business. You should know that."
Shae looked like she'd seen a ghost. Lillian wasn't mad or suspicious like she thought she'd be. She was cool as a cucumber, not giving Shae's words the time of day.
"I think you're just being stubborn," Shae said, trying to keep her cool. "Don't you know? On Amy's mom's birthday, he hugged me on the rooftop. Bet he didn't tell you that, huh?"
The more Lillian listened, the more entertained she got. "Of course, I know. Didn't you send me the video? But let me throw your own words back at you. Stop flexing. Alexander said he was thinking about Amy, but you twisted it to make it about you. Makes you look pretty desperate."
Shae instantly regretted bringing up the video.
She thought, 'Lillian, you've changed since I last saw you. You seem so confident. Alexander must have really spoiled you!' She was fuming but couldn't think of a comeback.
Lillian didn't want to push her too far, thinking, 'If Shae gets too worked up, she might do something crazy, especially since Alexander isn't here. But her words are so infuriating. How can I just take that?'
"You're acting tough with someone backing you up? Let's see how long that lasts," Shae said with a sinister look. "What if Amy comes back? Think Alexander will still keep you around? Think you can beat Amy?"
Lillian looked puzzled. "Isn't Amy dead? How can she come back? What are you planning?"
Shae laughed maliciously. "Scared, Lillian? Thinking about getting plastic surgery too?"
Lillian replied, "I don't have as many schemes as you. Surgery can change a face, but not character or temperament. Even if you get surgery to look like Amy, I don't think Alexander will like you. You're different from Amy. You're both unique."
"Nice words, but they're lies to me," Shae snapped. "People change over time, you idiot! Uniqueness is just bullshit. When you want something, reality forces you to change. It's that simple!"
Lillian stared at her, feeling she was on the verge of a breakdown, like an angry lioness. She didn't want to talk anymore, fearing she might get hurt, so she turned and left with her tray.
Shae watched her leave and smiled smugly.
Lillian quickly returned to Alexander's side. Smelling his familiar scent, she felt at ease.
"Why did it take so long to pick out so little? Is this enough for you?" Alexander asked.
Lillian said, "I ran into Shae and chatted a bit. Lost my appetite after that."
She never kept secrets from him. She always made sure he was in the loop about everything that mattered to them.
"Bet she didn't have anything nice to say," Alexander said, brushing a stray hair from her forehead. "Did she get under your skin?"
Lillian shrugged. "Nah, I think I handled it pretty well. She was the one who got all riled up."
Alexander raised an eyebrow. "What did she say?"
Lillian's face turned serious. She leaned in and whispered, "Babe, heads up. Shae's desperate. She's even thinking about getting plastic surgery to look like Amy to seduce you!"
"Plastic surgery? For real?" Alexander was floored. The idea was bonkers!
Lillian nodded. "So, don't get fooled!"
Alexander looked at her, speechless. "Is this your big advice?"
"Sort of. It's your first love's face. You might not resist," Lillian teased.
Alexander knew she was joking and said sweetly, "The only face I can't resist now is yours."
Nearby, Tom had somehow plopped down, giving Alexander a look of disdain.
Lillian turned to him and said, "You're still single, and you dare to judge Alexander."
Tom grinned. "You're right. I'm single. Now, can I ask you for a favor?"
"Depends. If it's about Angela, no," Lillian said seriously.
Tom asked, puzzled, "Why?"
Lillian replied, "No reason, just no."
"Alright, I got nothing," Tom said, leaving dejectedly.
About an hour later, Lillian felt tired and suggested heading home. Alexander took her and Luke back to Sinclair Villa.
Once they got to their room and changed, a servant knocked, bringing in some tonic.
"Isn't this for the evening?" she asked, not really wanting to drink it.
The servant replied, "Mrs. Sinclair, this is from Mrs. Linda Sinclair. I don't know the exact time for the tonic."
Alexander coaxed, "Just drink it for a few days. Once we're home, you won't have to."
Lillian picked up the bowl and downed the tonic in one go. After the servant left, she asked, "When are we going back?"
"Tomorrow is Sunday. We'll have a meal at home and then head back. How about that?" Alexander suggested.
Lillian agreed. "Okay, we've stayed long enough. With all the tonic, my body is pretty much adjusted. It's time to go home." Thinking about going home, she smiled brightly.
In the kitchen, Beatrice saw the servant returning with the empty bowl and asked, "Did you deliver the tonic to Lillian? Did she drink it all?"
"Yes, Mrs. Lillian Sinclair drank it all," the servant replied, looking down.
Beatrice waved her away and then smiled slyly.
After the engagement cancellation party, Caspian saw off all the guests and sat alone, not knowing what to do.
"What are you daydreaming about? Planning to stay here tonight?" Evelyn asked him.
