Chapter 170 I'd Rather Be Amy's Substitute

"Your outfit looks just like Amy's from our first visit. The style, color, everything," Alexander said calmly. "Why are you even here? You think you can just copy her and be her?" He tossed the cards on the table and stormed out.

The room got awkward, but Shae didn't seem to care. She shrugged and smiled, "Do I really look like Amy in this?"

Evelyn finally understood why something felt off. Only after Alexander pointed it out did she realize Shae was deliberately imitating Amy.

"Shae, why are you doing this?" Evelyn was shocked. Shae had invited her out today. Knowing they'd return to the villa in the afternoon, she wore this dress on purpose to see Alexander. Shae's scheme left Evelyn feeling used and upset.

Shae flipped her hair. "I'm just wearing an outfit Amy once wore, not her actual clothes. What's the big deal? Is it my fault I look like Amy?"

"Shae, it made Alexander feel terrible," Jackson said. "You didn't do anything wrong, but how can you say it wasn't on purpose? You make him see Amy's shadow and recall those horrible memories. Are you trying to replace Amy?"

Shae laughed. "Jackson, you're right! Of course, I'm willing to be Amy's substitute. If Alexander accepts me, I'd even get plastic surgery to look like Amy! I dressed like this to show him I can be the Amy in his heart, something Lillian can never give him!"

"Shae!" Evelyn shouted angrily. "How could you do this? You asked me to bring you here just to cause trouble! What did you promise me in the car?"

"Evelyn, don't be mad. I didn't do anything," Shae said innocently, then looked at everyone and smiled. "I came today because I haven't seen everyone in a long time and wanted to catch up."

Caspian tried to mediate, "We all want to have a good time, so don't argue. Come on, let's keep playing cards. Evelyn, you can take Alexander's place."

"I'm not in the mood to play cards!" Evelyn said, walking out and giving Caspian a light smack on the head as she passed by.

Shae took the empty seat. "Then I'll play. It's been a while since I last played."

Evelyn went downstairs just as Lillian and her friends returned.

"Luke, find your Uncle Alexander and ask him to take you for a bath," Lillian said to her two friends, "Let's freshen up too."

Wendy suddenly looked puzzled and exclaimed, "Ms. Phillips?"

Seeing Wendy, Evelyn's stern face softened into a smile. "Wendy?"

"So, you're good friends with Lillian," Evelyn said.

Lillian asked Evelyn, "So you're Wendy's boss from the studio? The one who always bring snacks for your employees."

Evelyn replied arrogantly, "That's me. Small world, huh?"

Lillian nodded. "Please take good care of Wendy at work. Thanks in advance."

Wendy pulled Lillian aside. "Lillian, don't say that. It makes Ms. Phillips embarrassed."

Evelyn said calmly, "Mrs. Sinclair rarely asks for a favor, so I comply. Wendy does great work, and I'm pleased."

Wendy beamed. "Really? Ms. Phillips, I'll keep working hard!"

Luke came back and said, "Lillian, I couldn't find Uncle Alexander."

"Really? Where could he have gone? I'll call him," Lillian said, pulling out her phone.

After a few rings, Alexander answered, saying he was in the study on the third floor and asked Luke to find him.

Ending the call, she muttered, "Why is he in the study instead of with his friends?"

"Lillian, let's go to our rooms first. We can chat more later," Angela urged, brushing off sand.

Evelyn said, "Go ahead. I'll wait for you in the living room."

Alexander had brought in hotel chefs and pastry chefs today. The delectable treats delighted everyone.

Evelyn put some in the living room, and the temporary nanny brought all the ladies' favorite coffee varieties. Soon, the three girls returned, looking refreshed.

Wendy still seemed a bit reserved around Evelyn, who said, "Today, don't treat me as your boss. We're all friends here, or else I'll feel pressured too."

Wendy smiled and nodded.

Lillian asked, "I didn't see clearly at the beach. Was that Shae with you?"

Evelyn said, "Yeah, it was her. She asked me out today, found out about the gathering here, and insisted on coming. I didn't refuse her. Lillian, are you upset?"

"No, I was just curious," Lillian explained. "She's also your friend and Amy's sister, so it's fine for her to come."

Angela bluntly asked, "Lillian, is she trying to steal Alexander?"

The question shocked the other three.

Lillian quickly said, "No, she's not. Don't jump to conclusions."

Wendy asked in surprise, "Angela, why would you ask that?"

Evelyn praised Angela, "You guessed right. Shae does want to be with Alexander."

Angela glared at Lillian. "Ms. Phillips confirmed it, and you still denied it. I was just asking, not planning to do anything to her. Why are you so scared?"

"I'm not scared. I just don't know how to answer your question," Lillian said, exasperated.

Wendy, munching on a cookie, curiously asked, "Lillian, tell us more about Shae. What's her story?"

Lillian said, "Stop asking. It's nothing." Then she blamed Angela. "Look at the trouble you've caused!"

Angela said, "Wendy, that's not your concern. Now that your boss is here, this is a good time to pitch any ideas you've had that haven't been taken on yet."
