Chapter 333 Caspian Performed Very Well

In the afternoon, Jessica and Patrick were busy in the kitchen, preparing a lavish dinner, not for Caspian coming, but for Wendy. They hadn't seen her for several weeks, and although they often complained about her, they missed her deeply.

"Wendy, come out for dinner," Patrick called softly at her room door.

Wendy was napping in her room, not sleeping soundly, and responded with a murmur.

Patrick turned around and saw Caspian lying in the living room, sleeping with Molly in his arms. He watched for a moment and then decided to wake him up. "Caspian, get up for dinner."

Caspian, likely exhausted, remained asleep and did not wake. Patrick gave him another nudge and called his name once more.

"Honey, come help with the dishes," Jessica called from the kitchen.

Patrick responded and walked towards the kitchen. Seeing Wendy coming out of her room, he said to her, "Wake him up."

Wendy approached and saw that he was soundly asleep. The blanket draped over him, which she had placed, was now trapped beneath him. When Molly noticed her approaching, it seemed to show a hint of guilt in its eyes, quickly hopped off the sofa, and scurried away. Wendy sat on the edge of the sofa and gently nudged him. "Caspian, it's time to eat."

Caspian lay on his back, muttering incoherently in his sleep. Wendy leaned in, placing her ear close to hear what he was saying.

"Evelyn, don't be afraid," he mumbled.

Wendy understood and pouted, muttering to herself, "She has a boyfriend now; she doesn't need your protection."

"Wendy!" Suddenly, Jessica shouted from behind, "Why are you so close to him?"

The shout startled Wendy and woke Caspian from his dream, leaving him bewildered.

"Mom, you startled me," Wendy said, holding her chest with a hint of annoyance in her voice.

Jessica glared at them, warning, "I'm telling you, don't think you can do anything inappropriate in front of me. I'm watching!" With that, she stormed back to the kitchen.

Caspian grinned. "I was having such a nice sleep, but that shout ruined my sweet dream!"

"What sweet dream were you having? Tell me about it," Wendy asked, looking at him.

Caspian thought for a moment and said, "I forgot after your mother shouted."

Wendy pouted, thinking to herself, 'I bet you don't forget; you just don't want to say.'

"Go wash your face; it's time to eat," she said indifferently, then turned and went to the kitchen.

The four of them sat at the dining table, and except for Caspian, the other three felt very awkward. Wendy was upset because of Jessica and Patrick's cold attitude.

"I didn't expect to have dinner here today, and I didn't bring any gifts. I'm very sorry," Caspian said politely to Patrick.

Caspian's serious demeanor surprised even Wendy. The usually carefree person suddenly became so courteous, which she had never seen before.

Patrick said, "It was just a coincidence today; let's eat."

"Let's eat," Wendy urged, trying to lighten the mood at the table.

Jessica, with a stern face, said with both blame and concern, "Look at you, since you started moving out, you've lost so much weight! You must not be eating well!"

"I'm fine. On my way to work in the morning, I pass by a breakfast shop and buy something to eat at the office. I have lunch in the company cafeteria, and I eat less at night to lose weight, but I have three meals a day." Wendy said.

"Why are you thinking about losing weight again? Who told you you’re fat?" Jessica said unhappily, then looked at Caspian and glared at him, "Is it you?"

"No, Mrs. Lewis, I never said Wendy was fat," Caspian said, feeling wronged. "Besides, Wendy isn't fat at all. How could I bear to let her lose weight?"

Wendy felt that his behavior was to repay the favor he owed her, wondering whether he thought that Jessica and Patrick would never agree to them being together, so he was acting so boldly.

"Caspian, I want to tell you my thoughts again today. We do not agree with you dating Wendy," Jessica began to lecture.

"I don't like beating around the bush, so I'll be straightforward. Your family is affluent and influential, way out of our league, and we have no intention of aiming that high. I doubt your parents would approve of you marrying Wendy anyhow. So, let's not waste each other's time." Jessica changed her strategy, not persuading Wendy but Caspian instead.

Wendy felt guilty; as a fake couple, she didn't dare to boldly declare that she just wanted to be with him, but only to listen to see how Caspian would respond.

Caspian smiled and said to Jessica, "Mrs. Lewis, you don't need to worry about my parents' attitude. They are very open-minded and don't interfere with my marriage. Wendy and I love each other and it's me climbing up to her."

Although he said this to appease Jessica and Patrick, it still made Wendy happy. She sighed inwardly, wishing it were true.

"So, you're saying you won't break up?" Jessica asked through gritted teeth.

Caspian said, "I respect Wendy's wishes. If one day she doesn't love me anymore, I will leave and not disturb her life."

Jessica knew Wendy would never be the one to say break up first. She remained silent and didn't eat.

Also remaining silent, Wendy felt a bit guilty, wondering if her rebellion was worth making Jessica sad. But beyond her self-reproach, she felt a profound fear, fearing Jessica's overbearing control, of her micromanaging every aspect of her life, of the lack of understanding from both Jessica and Patrick. These fears collectively overshadowed her self-reproach, rendering her completely overwhelmed.

"Come on, let's not talk about this today," Patrick said to ease the awkwardness, "Let's not bring up unpleasant matters now that Wendy has finally returned."

Wendy smiled ingratiatingly and said, "Mom, don't be upset while eating."
