Chapter 381 Prayer

Theodore greeted Lillian, "Lillian, how are you!"

"Mr. Wellington, I'm good!" she snapped out of her thoughts and said with a smile.

Theodore took out two gifts, teased the children, placed the gifts in their hands, and said softly, "These are gifts for you. In the new year, grow up healthy!"

Lillian hugged the children and taught them to thank Theodore, mimicking their voices, "Thank you."

Caspian, sitting nearby, suddenly slapped his thigh, "I forgot it! I also prepared gifts for the kids!"

"Really? You only remembered because Mr. Wellington gave them gifts," Lillian teased him, "After all, you were just asking Alexander for gifts."

"Lillian, if you say that, I'll be heartbroken!" Caspian waved the gifts in his hand, "How could I forget to bring gifts for the kids?"

He went over, stuffed the gifts into the children's hands, and said, "You two grow up quickly and give your parents a hard time."

"Caspian! You're so annoying!" Lillian laughed and scolded him.

The day after Christmas, steaming dishes were served on the table. After eating, Caspian organized a card game, and the three of them took Kevin to the game room.

Oscar, as usual, took Lucas upstairs to play, Kelly and Gina, after finishing their tasks, followed Patricia and Heather to the children's room. Lillian, alone, lay on the big bed in her room, surrounded by fruits and snacks, watching shows on her tablet, and scrolling through her phone, enjoying herself to the fullest!

In their three-person sister group chat, Angela sent a message, which brought out her and Wendy.

Lillian: [Did it snow in Atlanta? The snow has come to Richmond!]

Followed by a laughing emoji.

Wendy: [Angela, when are you coming back? If he's not coming, don't wait.]

Lillian: [Yeah, don't wait. Don't believe his lies?]

Angela: [Who said I'm waiting for him? I'm having a great time here!]

Lillian and Wendy both sent disdainful emojis.

Lillian: [Let me tell you, Caspian came to my house last night, and Mr. Wellington came over this morning. I'm puzzled, why aren't they spending Christmas with their families and coming to a friend's house instead?]

After sending it, neither of them replied.

Lillian: [What's going on? Why do you stop talking?"

Angela didn't reply, probably busy with friends. Wendy didn't reply, likely because seeing "Caspian" made her sad.

Today, Wendy went to Harry's house with her parents. The house was full of relatives, and they all targeted her, who didn't have a boyfriend, urging her to find one soon, or it would be hard to find someone as she got older, affecting future childbirth.

Then they talked about her job, unanimously thinking it was foolish of her to quit a stable job, and she got a round of scolding. Even her younger siblings who spoke up for her couldn't escape being scolded. In short, their combined urging and scolding gave her a headache and filled her with anger!

She hid in the room, sulking, feeling more and more aggrieved, and tears started to fall. 'What's wrong with not having a boyfriend? Who did I offend to deserve this? What does my job have to do with you?'

She angrily put on her coat, told Jessica she was going out to clear my mind, and left. As she closed the door, she heard Lisa and Jessica saying that Wendy was still so willful, getting upset over a few words.

Wendy walked aimlessly along the road. She remembered Caspian had told her he would take her to the church for Christmas.

'Never mind, I can't go with him, I'll go by myself!' Wendy cheered up, hailed a cab, and went to the church.

On Christmas, the church was packed with people praying. Wendy squeezed through the crowd, trying to find a spot to pray.

There was a long line for praying, and Wendy stood at the back, moving forward slowly.

In the group chat, Lillian @ them, asking what they were doing. Angela sent a picture of some food. Wendy sent a picture of the crowded church.

[Wendy, let's see your marriage prospects this year,] Lillian said.

Wendy replied, [I don't have much hope. Just here to join the fun.]

She moved forward, and while looking at the crowd on the other side, she suddenly saw Evelyn and Amos. They saw her too and walked over with a smile.

"What a coincidence!" Evelyn, holding Amos's arm, asked with a smile, "Who are you here with?"

"I came by myself," Wendy smiled faintly.

Evelyn said, "Is your foot injury healed? You didn't ask anyone to accompany you, and now you have to wait in such a long line."

Amos asked, "Why didn't Mr. Wade come with you? Oh right, his house must be full of guests today, he can't just leave, he has to stay and entertain them."

Evelyn subtly mocked him.

Wendy didn't care, "Why would I ask him to come with me? He's not my boyfriend. I'm quite happy coming here alone."

"Wendy, are you waiting to pray? I want to pray too, I'll go to the back with Amos," Evelyn said, pulling Amos's arm and heading to the back.

At the end of the line, Evelyn complained to Amos, "What were you saying? Wendy and Caspian are just good friends, not a couple. What you said was so awkward for her."

"They're not a couple, but something is going on," Amos laughed.

Evelyn glanced at him and said nothing.

After a long wait, it was finally Wendy's turn.

"Father, I want to pray for... my career," Wendy hesitated for a long time, putting her career before love.

After praying, Wendy planned to say goodbye to Evelyn and leave. But there were too many people, and she couldn't find them.

She left the church, thinking about what the priest had said, which was basically that her career wouldn't have any major ups and downs this year, everything would be as usual.

She felt a bit disappointed. The priest then smiled and told her not to be discouraged, that although her career wouldn't be great, she would meet many people who love her.

Standing by the roadside, Wendy laughed at herself, "So many people love me? Who knows if that person is the one I love?"

Her phone rang in her pocket; it was Jessica calling her back for dinner.

Wendy weakly agreed, hung up the phone, and took a cab back.

Evelyn and Amos came out of the church, both looking unhappy.

"Evelyn, don't be mad, that priest must be wrong!" Amos tried to comfort Evelyn, who was standing by the car.

Evelyn angrily said, "The priest's prayer just now made me feel like I'll have bad luck this year."
