Chapter 123 The Big Gossip

"What kind of unresolved issue is it?" Lillian asked, curious and surprised.

Kelly, sitting at the dining table, sighed deeply and slowly began to speak, "Alexander might not have told you about Amy. She is Alexander's ex-girlfriend. At that time, their relationship was very good, sweet and loving. However, Mrs. Sinclair senior opposes them being together and strongly opposes it."

"Why does Mrs. Sinclair senior oppose them? Is Amy from an ordinary family, too?" Lillian asked.

Kelly said, "Amy's family is well-off but still couldn't compare to the Sinclair family. Moreover, Mrs. Sinclair senior had a girl she favored and wanted to introduce to the young master, which caused a lot of unpleasantness."

"And then? Do they break up?" Lillian said, recalling, "I seem to remember Caspian and the others mentioning that Amy passed away."

Kelly's eyes reddened slightly, nodding silently, "Yes, she passed away. Once, she and Alexander quarreled over their relationship. In a fit of anger, she went on a road trip with her cousin. They were driving too fast and had an accident on the highway. She died just like that."

Lillian was stunned. "What about her cousin?"

"Her cousin was severely injured but was saved," Kelly said, looking at her, "Her cousin's name is Shae Anderson. She flies back from abroad every year after Christmas. Alexander is probably at the airport picking her up today."

"So, Alexander feels bad whenever he sees Shae because she reminds him of Amy?" Lillian suddenly felt sympathy for him.

Kelly smiled silently. "Yes, Alexander is a very sentimental person. The first two years after Amy's death were really tough for him."

Lillian, resting her chin in her hand, was lost in thought. 'I haven't expected Alexander to have such a tumultuous love story. He has always kept Amy in his heart, so it doesn't matter whom he marries.'

"Lillian, the fact that Alexander married you shows that he has let go of his obsession and wants to start anew. Although he hasn't fully invested in you yet, I can see that you two are getting closer step by step. I hope you can make Alexander's heart move and give him warmth," Kelly said sincerely. "These past few years have been too hard for Alexander."

Lillian smiled self-deprecatingly and said nothing. She thought to herself, 'I am too self-aware. He would never open his heart to accept me.'

After chatting with Kelly, Lillian returned to her room. Sitting on the bed, Lillian couldn't help but think about Alexander's situation, feeling that he was so pitiful. To be separated from his girlfriend by death—such pain could not be felt by those who hadn't experienced it.

She sighed deeply, picked up her phone from beside her pillow, and started playing with it. Then she went on a forum and posted some comics. She thought about writing Alexander's tragic love story but reconsidered, feeling it was inappropriate. She couldn't write about something so sensitive to attract traffic. She didn't wait for replies from netizens, put her phone by her pillow and listened to a novel until she gradually fell asleep.

The next morning, Lillian arrived at the company first. Kaitlyn was already there. "Morning, Kaitlyn."

"Morning. I wasn't here last Friday. How do you feel working alone?" Kaitlyn asked, looking at her.

Lillian smiled and said, "Kaitlyn, without you, I don't feel confident. There wasn't much to do on Friday. I went to a business lunch with Mr. Sinclair at noon and met with SK Group."

Kaitlyn responded and then asked, "Did you study any foreign languages over the weekend? Write down the vocabulary first." She said, handing her two printed vocabulary sheets.

Lillian didn't know what to say, "Kaitlyn, thank you for going through the trouble of printing these sheets for me. If I don't study hard, I'd really be letting you down."

"At least you have a conscience," Kaitlyn said coolly. "Starting in March, you need to improve your office skills and also start learning a new language. Keep it up."

"That's too much!" Lillian felt like crying. Just the foreign language alone was already giving her a headache every day.

"Are you unwilling?" Kaitlyn said sternly, scrolling her mouse. "Neither Mr. Sinclair nor I find it troublesome to teach you, yet you find it hard. If you want to become excellent, you have to make sacrifices. Only then will you reap the rewards. I don't want to hear any more complaints from you."

"I understand. I won't do it again." Lillian knew that being chosen by Kaitlyn for training was also thanks to Alexander, and she felt grateful, "Kaitlyn, thank you and Mr. Sinclair for your help."

"Don't thank me. It would help if you thanked Mr. Sinclair. I'm just an executor," Kaitlyn shifted her gaze from the computer to Lillian and said in a different tone, "When you become strong enough, no one will mock you behind your back. I believe that's also Mr. Sinclair's intention."

"He..." Lillian's heart skipped a beat, but she didn't dare to finish her thought, 'Would he really care about me and be so good to me?'

"Big gossip!" Alexis's voice pierced through the office.

"Look, who is this girl holding Mr. Sinclair's arm? They look so close. Is she Alexander's girlfriend?" Alexis asked.

"If she's Alexander's girlfriend, then what is Lillian's status? A mistress?" Another colleague asked again.

"Don't talk nonsense," Shirley turned around with a stern face and shouted at them, "Do you think this is a supermarket? Stop making a fuss! Once Mr. Sinclair will be here soon, he'll give you a good scolding!"

"Another big gossip!" Alexis ignored Shirley's words and exclaimed again, looking at the computer, "Isn't this Lillian? Who's this man? It's Michael."

"Let me see!"

"Could it be that Lillian and Alexander broke up?"

"Look, Ms. Hill got into Michael's car!"

"Why aren't you working? What are you gossiping about?" Suddenly, a cold voice came from nearby, commanding authority without anger.

Alexis and the others were startled to see Alexander and quickly stood up, stammering and not saying a word.

When Alexis had screamed earlier, Kaitlyn was about to come over but had taken a phone call. Now, she walked over quickly and angrily scolded, "Don't chat during work hours."

"Mr. Sinclair, Kaitlyn, it's still five minutes before work starts," Alexis said, trembling.

Alexander, with a stern face, glanced at the headline on the computer screen. 'SK Group President's New Love, Lunch Together.' The enlarged photos showed Lillian and Michael laughing and dining in a restaurant and another of her getting into his car.

Alexander glared fiercely at Alexis and the others, then walked towards his office, saying to Kaitlyn, "Fire everyone in the executive office except Shirley! This time, be more careful when hiring. Don't just bring anyone into the executive office!"

"Yes, Mr. Sinclair," Kaitlyn quickly responded, following closely behind Alexander.

As Alexander passed Lillian, he stopped, his eyes dark and menacing as he looked at her. "Come with me!"
