Chapter 222 Beatrice's Visit
Seeing Oscar collapse, Emily started crying uncontrollably. She then fumbled for her phone and called Michael.
"Michael! Oscar's been stabbed! There's blood everywhere. What should I do? Hurry over!" she screamed.
Michael, stunned, asked, "Where are you?"
"At the east gate of the neighborhood. Hurry!" Emily cried, her voice shaking.
Neighbors gathered around, whispering. Some had already called an ambulance. Emily stayed by Oscar, pressing on his wound, tears streaming down her face as his complexion grew paler.
Michael bolted out, called for an ambulance, and then informed Alexander before heading to the east gate.
Alexander hung up and told Lillian, "I need to step out for a bit. I'll be back soon."
"Okay," Lillian replied, not looking up from her phone.
Alexander quickly left and arrived at the east gate just as Michael did.
"Oscar!" Alexander frowned, holding him. "How long until the ambulance gets here?" he asked Michael.
Just then, they heard the siren.
"The ambulance is here!" Emily shouted.
Alexander felt a bit relieved. "Oscar, hang in there. We're going to the hospital now!" he said.
Meanwhile, Lillian sat on the couch, playing with her phone, while Luke quietly did his homework. Caspian had gone back a couple of days ago, so it was quieter.
"Kelly, it's already past eight. Why isn't Oscar back yet?" Lillian asked.
Kelly glanced at the clock. "He should be back soon. He usually comes around this time."
Lillian remarked, "Kelly, don't you think Emily is persistent? She never gives up."
"Yeah, she's really got some grit," Kelly agreed.
The doorbell rang twice, and Gina answered the intercom.
"Beatrice?" Gina saw who it was and unlocked the door.
"Is Beatrice here?" Lillian asked.
"Yes. Beatrice and Rena came together," Gina replied.
Lillian looked at Kelly, confused. "Why are they here so late?"
As Beatrice and Rena came in, they said, "That was so scary!"
Kelly took their things and smiled. "What happened to scare you like that?"
Rena, holding her belly, walked in slowly. "Just mentioning it makes me shiver. It was too bloody!"
Beatrice added, "Exactly. There was blood everywhere. Just looking at it made me dizzy!"
Lillian asked, "Where? In the neighborhood? What happened?"
Beatrice sat down. "We don't know. We came in through the east gate and saw a crowd. Rena and I went to check it out. What we saw scared us!"
"What happened?" Lillian and Kelly asked together.
Beatrice explained, "There was a young man, about twenty, lying on the ground covered in blood. A girl was squatting next to him, crying and pressing on his stomach. We couldn't hear what she was saying. It was terrifying."
Rena continued, "People said the couple was just out for a walk when the guy got stabbed. Must've pissed someone off."
Hearing this, Lillian's heart started racing. She glanced at Kelly, who looked just as worried.
Beatrice noticed but pretended not to. She picked up a gift box. "This is from Mrs. Linda Sinclair. She got these high-quality supplements but didn't use them, so she asked me to bring them to you."
Lillian forced a smile. "Thanks."
Beatrice set the box aside and picked up a paper bag. "I went to Aidamore a few days ago and got some clothes and shoes for the baby."
Lillian took them out. "Thank you, Beatrice. You didn't have to."
"I'm their grandma, so of course I have to buy them some things," Beatrice said, smiling.
Rena said, "Mom, it's late. We've delivered the stuff, so let's head back."
Beatrice nodded. "Where's Alexander? Isn't he home?"
Lillian replied, "No, he had something to do and went out. Beatrice, I won't keep you. Come earlier next time and stay for dinner. Thanks for bringing the things."
"Don't mention it. Take care," Beatrice said as she and Rena left.
Once they were gone, Lillian couldn't hold it in. She called Oscar, but no answer. Then she called Alexander.
"Lillian, don't worry. I don't think it's Oscar," Kelly tried to comfort her.
"But you heard what Beatrice said. It sounded like Oscar and Emily!" Lillian paced, biting her finger, unable to calm down.
Outside the operating room, Alexander saw the call. He hesitated but answered just before it ended.
"Honey," Alexander said, trying to sound casual. "I'm coming back soon."
"Where are you?" Lillian asked. "Are you at the hospital?"
Alexander's expression tightened. "Why would I be at the hospital? I'm just outside talking to Caspian."
Lillian listened carefully. It was quiet, not like a hospital.
"Okay, I'll end the call then," she said.
"What's wrong? Why did you ask if I was at the hospital?" Alexander asked.
"Beatrice and Rena said they saw someone get stabbed in the neighborhood. I got worried. Oscar hasn't come back yet, and he didn't answer his phone," Lillian explained.
"I saw Oscar when I went out, so I took him with me," Alexander lied. "Don't worry. We'll be back soon."
"Is Oscar with you? Why didn't you tell me?" Lillian sighed in relief but complained.
"We're not kids. Why are you so worried?" he laughed. "Alright, we'll be back soon. If you're tired, go to bed first."
Alexander ended the call, feeling conflicted.
"What are you going to tell her when you get home? You can't hide this," Michael asked nearby.
Alexander sighed. "Let's hide it for now. If I tell her now, she'll end up in the hospital too."
