Chapter 259 What Wish Did You Make?
"Yes! I'm unwilling to lose like this!" Blake said angrily. Then, reflecting on himself, he said to Beatrice. "Mom, this time it's all my fault. I made decisions without consulting you, wasting all our previous efforts. From now on, I'll listen to you!"
Beatrice said, "I understand your thoughts. You wanted to prove your abilities. It's okay. If you fail, you can try again. It's not a big deal. On the contrary, this time, you got to see yourself clearly and won't be so arrogant."
Blake nodded in agreement.
Beatrice then asked, "Did you have intimate contact with Shae?"
Blake hesitated and replied, "Mom, don't listen to Nico's nonsense."
Beatrice smiled, leaning on the railing and looking into the distance, and said, "Do you think that if you want someone Alexander doesn't, others will look down on you? Let me tell you. It doesn't matter, but you have to make use of it!"
She withdrew her gaze and looked at Blake seriously. She said, "I never interfere in your love life. As long as you know your limits, it's fine. If you use Shae well, she can become a useful pawn. Don't underestimate Shae. She's very smart and might even be aware of your intentions."
"Shae is indeed very smart. She might have let me get close to her to use me," Blake said.
Beatrice responded, "Mutual use is not necessarily a bad thing. It can lead to mutual benefit and a win-win situation. Doesn't she want to be with Alexander? Let's help her by creating opportunities for her to meet Alexander and even by fostering misunderstandings. Whether it succeeds or not is beyond our control. When we succeed in our counterattack, and Alexander is down and out, do you think she will still want to be with him?"
"Of course, she will choose the person with more power!" Blake said with a smile.
Beatrice smirked and added, "Nico had a miscarriage. Don't neglect her too much. After all, this happened because of you. It's not time to abandon her yet. Don't go too far."
"She's so sensitive every day. It's annoying," Blake complained. "Since our child is gone, am I not sad? Seeing her sulking all day, I can't be in a good mood."
Beatrice tapped his head and said, "I didn't agree with your marriage in the first place, but you didn't listen to me. Serves you right!"
Blake sighed and said nothing.
On the last day of the holiday, cars were stopped in place, their headlights bright like lit-up houses.
After talking to someone outside, Angela returned to the car and said to Theodore, "They said there seems to be an accident ahead, and it might be a long traffic jam."
Theodore leisurely put his arm behind his head and leaned back, saying, "Then let it be. There's nothing we can do."
Angela said, "These past few days have been spent entirely on the road."
Theodore glanced at her and asked with a smile, "Are you hungry? There's food in the back."
Angela replied, "I'm not hungry. I ate something."
It was already past eight in the evening, and the highway was bustling. People in the cars ahead opened their trunks, set up barbecue grills, and started grilling meat, calling friends over; groups of people gathered, chatting and laughing.
"I haven't been on the highway for a long time. I didn't know there could be so many activities during a traffic jam," Angela said with emotion.
Theodore withdrew his gaze, opened the sunroof, reclined his seat, and looked at the starry night sky, sighing. "I haven't been this relaxed in a long time."
Angela also reclined her seat and asked, "You're a lawyer. You must be very busy usually, right? What kind of cases do you take?"
Theodore replied, "The firm takes all kinds of cases. I mainly handle economic cases."
"Is the firm yours?" Angela asked curiously. "The Wellington family is a top-tier family in Ridgefield, unmatched in logistics and shipping. Why don't you take over the Wellington family's business?"
Theodore replied indifferently, "I don't like it."
His indifferent tone seemed to carry a hint of disdain.
Angela glanced at him and said, "I don't like studying medicine either. However, my dad forced me to read medical books since I was a child. When I was applying for college, he insisted that I go to medical school. I didn't want to, but he threatened to kill himself, so I had no choice but to comply."
"So, I admire you. If you don't like it, you don't do it. You do what you love," Angela said, admiring his courage.
Theodore asked, "Then, what do you like to do?"
"I like music, playing the piano. I want to be a pianist." Angela sighed. "When I was a child, I asked my dad to take me to learn, but he said the piano was useless and that studying medicine was better, so he didn't allow me to learn."
Theodore asked again, "What about your mom? Why is it always your dad making decisions?"
Angela pursed her lips and said, "My mom divorced my dad after giving birth to me."
Theodore remarked, "Then, your dad raising you alone must have been tough."
"So, I agreed with everything he said." Angela felt quite understanding.
They suddenly fell silent, each lost in their thoughts.
Suddenly, a white light streaked across the night sky, a meteor trailing a long tail disappearing into the darkness.
"A shooting star!" Angela exclaimed, pointing at it. Then, she closed her eyes and made a wish.
Others outside also saw it and called out.
Theodore looked at her with amusement. When she opened her eyes, he asked curiously, "What did you wish for?"
Angela smiled and said, "I don't mind telling you. It won't come true anyway. I wish I could eat without getting fat."
Theodore laughed and replied, "You're not fat at all."
"That's because I don't eat much. If I eat more, I'll get fat," Angela said, troubled.
She then asked, "What did you wish for?"
Theodore didn't make a wish but said, "I want to find a girl."
"What kind of girl?" Angela asked curiously.
"I don't know what she looks like," Theodore said with a self-deprecating smile. "However, her perfume is very unique."
"Could it be my perfume?" Angela asked tentatively.
He had mentioned her perfume several times, so she couldn't help but think it might be her.
