Chapter 213 Lillian is Sensible and Kind
The car had this faint, classy smell. Theodore took a whiff. Yep, same scent as before.
"Dr. Turner, you really into this perfume?" he asked.
"I don't know much about perfumes. A patient gave me this one, and I liked it, so I use it," Angela replied. "Is it too strong? Should I crack a window?"
"No need, it smells great," Theodore said.
'This scent is just like the one from that woman that night,' Theodore thought. 'It's been over six months, and I still haven't figured out who she is. Did she leave Rihegde? Or could it be Angela?'
He glanced at Angela, who was focused on driving and didn't notice.
The car stopped in front of a supermarket on Central Avenue. Theodore unbuckled his seatbelt and thanked her, "Dr. Turner, thanks."
Angela replied, "Mr. Wellington, it's nothing. It was on my way."
Theodore nodded. "Drive safely. Bye."
Watching Angela drive away, Theodore stood there, recalling that night.
'It doesn't seem like it's her. Maybe I'm just too sensitive to that scent,' he thought. 'I should ask Dr. Turner to introduce me to the person who gave her the perfume.'
At Alexander's house, Caspian was sprawled on the couch, refusing to leave. "Alexander, can I crash here for a few nights? I just got dumped!"
Alexander, with a tablet on his lap, said, "I get you're upset, but that's not a reason to stay here. Lily's pregnant, and I need to take care of her. You can't stay."
"What if I don't talk? I'll just stay in the guest room," Caspian pleaded.
"How is that different from you going home?" Alexander said. "It's late. Go back."
"Are you kicking me out before Wendy's even gone?" Caspian said indignantly. "You really don't care about me anymore."
"Wendy is keeping Lily company and making her happy. Why would I kick her out? She can stay if she wants," Alexander said. "Find Tom or someone else. Don't you have plenty of friends?"
"Fine, I get it. You just don't want to take me in, right? And here I thought you were my good friend!" Caspian said, tears welling up.
Alexander put the tablet aside and laughed. "Why are you acting like a girl? Stop crying. You can stay."
"You should have said so earlier! You had to wait until I was a mess before agreeing!" Caspian said, blowing his nose. "I'm so miserable. I gave my heart to Evelyn and got this in return. I can't even express my pain. And you keep pushing me away when I just want to stay for a few nights. Now that you have a wife, you don't need friends anymore!"
"Alright, it's my fault," Alexander said, raising his hands. "I know you're upset. Please head upstairs."
Caspian asked, "Where are you going?"
"I'm going to my room to sleep. Lily and I are sleeping downstairs now for convenience. You can go to the guest room upstairs. It's not your first time staying here," Alexander said, heading to his room.
Wendy came out of the room and said to Lillian, "Time flies. I need to go."
"I'll ask Alexander to drive you home," Lillian said, following her out.
Wendy walked up to Alexander. Seeing his cold demeanor, she felt a chill. "No need to bother Alexander. I can get home on my own. Isn't there a subway station nearby?"
"It takes over twenty minutes to walk there. It's late, and I can't let you walk alone," Lillian said, turning to Alexander. "Honey, drive Wendy home."
Alexander was annoyed about leaving Lillian and Caspian at home. 'Shouldn't Caspian be the one to drive Wendy home?' he thought.
"I have a video conference soon. I don't have time," he replied, looking at Caspian. "You're free. Why don't you drive Wendy home?"
Seeing they wanted Caspian to drive her, Wendy was even more reluctant. She waved her hands. "No, it's fine. I'll take the subway. It's no problem."
Caspian said, "It's late. Why are you refusing? If something happens, do you want them to feel upset? Come on. I'll drive you home." He walked towards the door.
Lillian said to Caspian, "Mr. Wade, drive safely. Thank you."
"Don't need to thank me. I'll be back soon," Caspian said with a smile and left.
Wendy said to Lillian, "Take care of yourself. I'll visit another day."
After they left, Lillian asked, "Why is Mr. Wade coming back?"
"He said he just got dumped and doesn't want to be alone at home. He wants to stay here for a few days," Alexander said with a smile. "I refused him earlier, and he cried, saying I didn't consider him a friend. Honey, if you don't like it, I'll arrange another place for him. Your comfort is my priority."
Lillian said sympathetically, "Mr. Wade is really pitiful. I understand him. If he wants to stay, he can stay. I'm not petty. If staying here helps him feel better, it's good. What if he really gets depressed?"
Alexander patted her head and said appreciatively, "You're so understanding and kind."
"Of course, I am. I've always been like this," Lillian said, raising her chin proudly.
Alexander pulled her into his arms, kissed her cheek, and they went back to their room together.
Lying in bed, Alexander gently massaged her shoulders. "Tomorrow, I'll go pay my respects to your dad and Amy."
"Okay," Lillian said, feeling drowsy from the massage.
Alexander asked, "Do you have anything you want me to say to your father? I'll pass it on for you."
"No. Just bring him a bouquet of flowers," Lillian replied.
Alexander inquired, "What about your mother? Do you pay your respect to her every year?"
"Aunt Lisa told me that my mom didn't leave anything behind, not even a body, so there's no need to visit her tombstone. It's been like that all these years," Lillian replied.
Lillian opened her eyes, turned to look at him, and said gloomily, "If you're going to pay respect to Amy tomorrow, Shae will definitely be there too. If you run into her, she'll cling to you again."
"She's clung to me so many times. When has she ever succeeded? You know my attitude towards her. Don't worry about it," Alexander reassured her.
Lillian nodded, but in her heart, she thought, 'You may have a clear attitude towards her, but if she tries to use Amy to cause trouble, will you still remain indifferent?'
