Chapter 421 Helpless Wendy
The emergency room at the hospital was in chaos, filled with cries and groans.
Wendy's injuries were just minor abrasions. But her parents' injuries were more severe: Jessica had a fractured collarbone, and Patrick had a broken forearm, with both of them also suffering head injuries.
Wendy, with a bandage on her forehead, looked at her unconscious parents on the hospital beds and cried uncontrollably, feeling utterly lost. People around her were constantly making phone calls, some crying, some seeking help.
Wendy looked around, feeling panicked. She wiped her tears and called Angela, hoping Ivan, who was still in Atlanta, could come and help her.
But the call went to voicemail; the phone was off. Wendy panicked again. Why was the phone off at this critical moment? She guessed the phone might have run out of battery and left a message on Angela's Facebook explaining her situation. She didn't want to bother Lillian, who had a lot on her plate, and didn't want her to worry.
She sat by the bed, looking at her parents, silently praying for them to wake up soon.
Time passed by, and Angela still hadn't called back. Wendy tried calling again, but the phone was still off. She was really scared and wanted someone to comfort her, but she couldn't reach Angela when she needed her most.
Tears streamed down her face uncontrollably. She was worried about her parents, traumatized by the car accident, and now in the tense environment of the emergency room, she can't help but feel like she is falling apart!
She didn't want to trouble Lillian, but she couldn't hold on any longer. Even if Lillian could just talk to her and comfort her, it would be good.
She sent a message to Lillian on Facebook, her voice trembling as she recounted the car accident and expressed her fear. She waited, but Lillian didn't respond. Unable to wait any longer, she called Lillian, but her phone was also off!
Tears burst from her eyes again! 'Did the two of them plan this? Why were both phones off?'
She was a bit angry, crying while absentmindedly scrolling through her Facebook contacts. When she saw Caspian's profile picture, her finger suddenly stopped.
She hesitated for a moment, then opened the chat and called him. She needed comfort and wanted to hear someone's voice.
"Wendy?" Caspian answered, his tone cheerful, "What's up?"
Hearing his voice, Wendy's heart finally eased up, and she couldn't control herself, bursting into tears.
"Caspian!"
Hearing Wendy's sobs, Caspian stood up abruptly, asking nervously, "What's wrong? Don't cry, take your time and tell me!"
Wendy cried, "I called Lillian and Angela, but their phones are off! Thank goodness you answered, or I wouldn't know what to do!"
"What happened?" Caspian asked, hearing the noise in the background, "Are you at the hospital?"
"We were in a bus accident, and now we're in the emergency room," Wendy sobbed, "I'm so scared! My parents are still unconscious. What should I do? Will they be okay?"
"Are you hurt? Where are you injured?" Caspian asked anxiously.
"No, I just have a minor injury on my forehead, it's already treated."
Caspian, already holding his car keys and heading out, comforted her, "Wendy, don't be afraid! Since your parents are in the emergency room, there are medical staff, they will be fine. Just stay there and don't panic."
"But I'm scared, I don't know anyone here. I haven't seen any police. They said the tour guide was seriously injured. Are we going to stay in the hospital?"
"Wendy, listen to me, someone will take care of your situation. Your parents are injured, they will definitely be admitted to the hospital. A nurse will come to arrange things for you. Just stay with your parents."
He then asked, "Which hospital in Atlanta are you at?"
"Hope Valley Hospital."
Caspian said, "Okay, I'll see if I have any friends at Hope Valley Hospital."
"Okay," Wendy replied, feeling a bit better, "Caspian, talking to you has made me feel better, not so scared."
"Do you want something to eat?" he asked.
Wendy said, "My parents haven't woken up, I don't feel like eating."
At that moment, Jessica's eyelids fluttered, and she woke up, her voice hoarse, "Wendy."
"My mom woke up! I have to go!" Wendy hurriedly hung up the phone.
Caspian drove to the airport with a serious expression. Fortunately, the next flight to Atlanta wasn't too late. After completing all the procedures, he didn't have to wait long before boarding the plane.
Wendy leaned over, tears in her eyes, looking at Jessica, crying softly, "Mom, you finally woke up, I am so scared."
"Where's your dad?" Jessica asked worriedly.
Wendy glanced at Patrick, "He's still asleep, but he should wake up soon."
"Let me see him." Jessica tried to get up, but Wendy gently pushed her back, "Mom, you have a fractured collarbone, don't move!"
"Is your dad seriously injured?" Jessica cried anxiously, "Why is he still unconscious?"
"Dad has a broken forearm, but he'll be fine," Wendy said, "I'll go find a doctor to ask, don't worry."
Just then, a nurse came in and asked, "Who is Patrick's family?"
"I am!" Wendy raised her hand.
The nurse walked over and said softly, "The director has arranged a room for you. You can complete the admission procedures. We'll take your parents to the room first."
"What? The director?" Wendy asked in surprise.
The nurse smiled, "Hurry up."
Wendy puzzled, completed the admission procedures and went to the private room. If she didn't know who arranged this by now, she would be a fool. It had to be Caspian.
She called him, but the automated message said, "The number you have dialed is currently unavailable." She was already numb to it, accepting it.
After being transferred to the room, Patrick slowly woke up.
The first thing he asked when he opened his eyes was, "Wendy, where's your mother?"
"I'm here," Jessica, lying on the bed, cried, "Honey, are you okay?"
"I'm fine, as long as you're okay."
Patrick then saw the bandage on Wendy's head and said with concern, "Wendy, are you okay? Does your head hurt? Were you scared?"
Wendy, pouting, tears of grievance in her eyes, sobbed, "Dad, if you didn't wake up, I would have been so scared."
"Don't cry, I'm fine." Patrick reached out his uninjured hand to wipe Wendy's tears.
The three of them, having survived the ordeal, were very emotional. Though they couldn't hug and cry together, each of their faces showed the relief of having escaped a disaster.
