Chapter 102 What a Small World
Lillian screamed, "What should I do?"
She hurriedly got out of the car. A man got out of the car in front of her.
"Sir, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. I'm really sorry," Lillian apologized anxiously.
The man bent down to look at the damaged area, his face clearly showing displeasure. "My car is so conspicuous, parked right in front of you. How could you not see it?"
Lillian, on the verge of tears, said, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm a new driver and was in a hurry. I accidentally hit your car."
The man looked her up and down, noting that her appearance and demeanor didn't seem like someone who could afford such a car. He guessed she was an employee driving her boss's car for some errand and had the misfortune of getting into an accident.
Lillian had never experienced anything like this and didn't know what to do. The car wasn't hers. Should she call Kaitlyn?
She first called Kaitlyn, but unfortunately, her phone was off. She was probably in a meeting with Alexander.
'What should I do now?' She was extremely anxious.
Passing vehicles slowed down to look, making her even more embarrassed.
Lillian saw the man making a phone call and waited on the side. A few minutes later, when he hung up, she cautiously approached and asked, "Sir, this is my first car accident. I don't know the procedure. Should I contact the insurance company? I know it's entirely my fault."
Michael saw the fear and worry, not wanting to make things difficult for her. He waved his hand and said, "Alright, you can go. I'll handle it myself."
Lillian didn't react immediately. "You want me to leave? How will I compensate you?"
Michael looked at her dazed expression, unsure if she was genuinely clueless or just pretending. He ignored her, opened his car door, and was about to get in.
"Sir, wait a minute!" Lillian hurriedly called out to him. She went back to her car, quickly grabbed a pen and paper from her bag, and wrote down her phone number and name. She handed it to him and said, "Call me with the repair cost, and I'll transfer the money to you. This phone number is also my Facebook account."
After saying that, she slightly bowed and added. "Please call me. I'm really in a hurry and need to go."
Lillian quickly got back into her car, maneuvered around his car, and left.
Michael looked at the piece of paper with her neat handwriting, which was as pretty as she was. He smiled silently, got into his car, and casually tossed the paper aside.
Lillian drove on, feeling very frustrated. 'How could she be so unlucky?' She blamed herself for being clumsy. She was so upset that she took a wrong turn and couldn't find her way back. She opened the GPS and spent a long time finding the right route. This back-and-forth delayed her even more.
Not knowing how long, Lillian finally parked in front of SK Group, grabbed her bag, and hurried into the office building.
After registering at the front desk, she took the elevator to the CEO's office on the twelfth floor, at the far end. She got out of the elevator, tidied herself up, and headed to the office.
The secretary at the door saw her and smiled, nodding as she opened the door for her.
"Michael, Lillian from the Sinclair Group is here."
Michael was sitting behind his desk, head down, doing something. He looked up upon hearing this and met Lillian's gaze. Both of them surprised.
"Is it you?" they asked in unison.
Michael sat up straight and asked with amuse, "So, you're from the Sinclair Group?"
Lillian nodded. "Michael, hello, I'm Lillian." She placed a file folder on his desk and said, "Kaitlyn asked me to deliver this."
"Kaitlyn?" Michael took the folder and curiously asked, "Wasn't it always Taylor before?"
"She got transferred. Now Kaitlyn is the secretary," Lillian replied, wondering if she should mention the car accident during this work meeting.
Michael took out the documents, glanced through them, and said, "Alright, the documents are fine. I'll keep them." He put them back in the folder, looked at her, and smiled. "What a small world. You were in a hurry to deliver this to me?"
"Yes, I'm sorry for hitting your car," Lillian said, scratching her head awkwardly.
"Michael, don't forget to call me after the car is repaired," she reminded him.
Michael said, "The car you were driving isn't yours, right? Just handle your side of things."
"No, I can't do that. I'd feel guilty," Lillian insisted.
Michael didn't want to dwell on this matter. Since the business was done, he was ready to end the conversation.
"Lillian, drive carefully on your way back."
Lillian understood his meaning. Seeing that he had nothing more to say, she didn't linger. Now that she knew who he was, it would be easier to settle the repair costs.
"Alright, I will. Thank you for your kind reminder," Lillian said with a gentle smile, "I'll take my leave now."
Michael watched her leave and chuckled silently. What a coincidence. He remembered the name Lillian.
On her way back, Lillian drove cautiously. When she returned to the company, the lunch break was almost over.
Kaitlyn wasn't there. Shirley said she was out with Alexander for a business meeting and would probably be back before the end of the day. Shirley, worried that Lillian might miss lunch, brought her some food. Lillian, now starving, found the meal Shirley brought to be delicious.
"How is it? Is it tough working with Kaitlyn?" Shirley asked with a hint of schadenfreude.
Lillian, eating quickly, mumbled, "She's very strict with me, but I'm not afraid."
She wanted to tell Shirley about the car accident but decided against it, as it wouldn't solve anything. Instead, they chatted about other things.
Sure enough, Kaitlyn returned before the end of the day. The lunch meeting seemed challenging. Both Alexander and Kaitlyn had flushed faces, indicating they had drunk quite a bit.
Lillian made a cup of coconut water for Kaitlyn and said, "Kaitlyn, have some coconut water to sober up."
Kaitlyn waved her hand dismissively. "I'm not drunk, just flushed from the alcohol. Take this to Alexander. He drank a lot."
Lillian knocked and entered the office. Alexander was lying in the lounge area. Hearing someone enter, he didn't get up. She walked over slowly, suddenly recalling the time in Aetherland when he was drunk and their wild night together. She was so startled that she didn't dare go in. She called out to him and placed the coconut water on the table by the door.
"Alexander, I brought you some coconut water. Drink it to sober up."
