Chapter 309 Chatting on the Balcony
Lillian asked in surprise, "What? You moved out of your house?"
Wendy said helplessly, "I really couldn't stand my mother anymore. She kept nagging me about my work every day. If I stayed at home any longer, I would have had a breakdown."
"Did your parents agree to you moving out?" she asked, puzzled.
Wendy said, "No, they were afraid I would move in with Caspian."
"So what did you do? How did you manage to move out?" Lillian pressed.
"I just forced my way out. I told them I wasn't moving in with Caspian but sharing a place with a colleague, and that it was close to the studio. They were skeptical." Wendy sighed, "Let's not talk about them. It just annoys me. I don't understand why they are so controlling towards me."
Lillian couldn't understand Wendy's pain. Since childhood, Lisa had been very laissez-faire with her and Oscar, leaving them to fend for themselves. She didn't know what it felt like to be controlled.
"Did your mother come to your studio to find you?" Lillian asked.
Wendy said, "She wanted to, but my father stopped her."
Lillian said, "I think your father is better, he doesn't seem as emotional as your mother."
Wendy gave a bitter smile. "Not really. They just care about different things. My mother is more concerned about my job, while my father is worried about my relationship. He always thinks Caspian is no good and keeps asking when I'm going to break up with him."
Lillian laughed, "Your father is kind of cute."
"Later, seeing how worried he always looked, I told him the truth—that Caspian isn't my boyfriend and I was just trying to annoy them. Guess what? He didn't believe me. I was at a loss for words." Wendy shook her head and concluded, "Anyway, before I moved out, my home was a complete mess."
Lillian looked at her sympathetically and asked, "So you are sharing a place with a colleague?"
"Of course!" Wendy's voice rose a few notches.
"Did you think I was living with Caspian? Why do you sound just like my parents?"
Lillian said, "Don't be ungrateful, I'm just concerned about you. What if you end up having a sexual relationship with him?"
"I won't. Besides, I think Caspian is pretty nice. When he heard I was moving out, he rented me and my colleague a place near the studio. The rent is super cheap, and the property management is good. I lucked out."
"That's not bad. It's reassuring to rent from someone you know."
Wendy had pretty much finished explaining her situation and glanced at the time, saying, "Why isn't Angela here yet?"
"She should be here soon. Why don't you give her a call?"
Outside the courtyard, voices could be heard approaching. Theodore, Tom, Jackson, and Ainsley arrived together. Not long after, Angela also showed up.
"Why are you so late?" Lillian asked, then added, "Look at my two babies, have they grown?"
"Not bad, they're growing well," Angela said, glancing at them indifferently.
She didn't like children, unlike Wendy, who would at least play with them a bit. Angela just took a quick look and then lost interest. However, she still brought gifts for the two kids.
Caspian walked over and asked Lillian, "Lillian, is Evelyn coming today?"
"Alexander mentioned it to her, and she said she would come," Lillian looked up at him and added, "She's bringing her boyfriend."
Caspian's expression changed slightly, and he turned and walked away.
Wendy watched him go inside and thought to herself, 'He doesn't say it, but he must be feeling bad.'
When friends gather, it's all about eating, drinking, and having fun. The men went to the game room to play cards. Lillian handed the kids over to Heather and Patricia and took Wendy and Angela on a tour of the house, ending up on the top-floor balcony.
The balcony was beautifully maintained, surrounded by flowers and greenery, full of spring vibes. There were sofas, hanging chairs, and tables, making it a perfect place for tea and chatting.
"It's so beautiful! I wouldn't even want to barbecue up here!" Wendy said with a laugh.
Angela tapped her on the head. "The barbecue will be in the backyard downstairs."
Gina had already brought up the tea and snacks. Lillian sat on the sofa, eating and saying to the two of them, "I love it here. When the weather is nice, I paint here, and it sparks my creativity."
The two of them sat down, and Angela said, "Alexander has good taste, the house is beautifully decorated."
"Among the three of us, Lillian is the happiest. Look at her, she has a husband and kids, she's practically a winner in life," Wendy said enviously.
Lillian laughed openly and said without modesty, "So far, that's true. You two need to work hard too!"
"Tone it down and close your mouth, I can see your molars!" Angela laughed, then said seriously, "Lillian, we're happy for you, but you can't let your guard down. You had a tough pregnancy, but luckily, the kids made it. Do you think those who tried to harm you will just give up? It worries me."
Lillian agreed, "Angela, you're right. At home, there's Beatrice and Blake, and outside, there's Amy. None of them are easy to deal with. I can't afford to be careless."
"But you don't need to be too worried. You have four or five bodyguards at home. They won't find an opportunity to harm you or the kids. I'm just reminding you, not trying to spoil the mood"
"It's a reminder," Lillian said, leaning on Angela's shoulder and turning to Wendy, "Wendy, don't you think Angela is the most thoughtful among us?"
"Yes, she thinks a lot and far ahead, and she's been a great help to us," Wendy said, playing along, as she leaned on Angela's other shoulder and said with a laugh, "Angela, I'm feeling so lost in life right now. Can you give me some advice?"
"No way," Angela laughed, "You two are so silly, I naturally have to think more."
She then said to Wendy, "Now that you've moved out and no one is bothering you, and you're doing what you love, where's the confusion? Take this time to work hard towards your dreams."
The balcony door opened, and Evelyn walked in. Seeing the three of them leaning on each other, she joked, "What are you guys doing?"
"Evelyn, why are you so late!" Lillian quickly got up, pulled her over to sit down, and said, "I haven't seen you in so long."
"I just saw the kids, they've grown a lot and look great," Evelyn said, complimenting them.
Lillian asked, "Did you come with your boyfriend?"
"Yes, I came with Amos."
