Chapter 161 Waking Up in Alexander's Arms
At night, a family of three lay in bed. Luke was already asleep, while Lillian and Alexander were chatting quietly.
"Did you agree to let Lola work at Whale Group?" Lillian asked.
"Yeah, I did," Alexander replied. "It's tough for college grads to find jobs now, and Lola is clearly someone who aims high but lacks practical skills. She won't see her weaknesses until she hits some roadblocks. Let her get some experience in the executive office."
"She definitely needs it. Lisa's spoiled her since she was a kid," Lillian said with a hint of amusement.
"And what about Adam? How did you handle him?" she asked again.
"Don't worry about him. I'm not letting him drift around aimlessly anymore."
Lillian didn't press further. She trusted Alexander to handle Adam, and it wasn't a big deal to her.
Suddenly, Lillian remembered something. "Are you really ignoring our internet video? The views have blown up today."
"Don't worry about it. The hype will die down in a couple of days," Alexander said casually, eyes closed. "Isn't it a good thing? It shows I have a wife, so no one will chase after me."
"Mr. Sinclair, the video doesn't say you're married. To outsiders, it just looks like you have a girlfriend. Someone might still try to steal you away," Lillian hinted.
Alexander turned over and looked at her playfully. "Are you jealous?"
"Me?" Lillian said dramatically. "No, it has nothing to do with me."
With his head resting on his arm, Alexander asked, "It's related to you. Aren't you my wife?"
"A contract wife doesn't count," Lillian said, turning away to avoid his gaze.
Alexander reached over, gently tugged her hair, and laughed. "Honey, why are you turning away? I want to see your face and chat with you."
Lillian couldn't help but laugh, her shoulders shaking. "Alexander, why are you so childish? Stop pulling my hair."
He didn't listen and gently tugged a few more times. "Turn around, and I won't pull your hair anymore."
Noticing Luke lying between them, Alexander said disdainfully, "Luke sleeping in the middle is really in the way."
Lillian turned her head and asked seriously, "What do you want to do? Stop messing around and sleep."
Seeing that she insisted on not turning around, Alexander lay back and said, "Okay, I won't mess around. Let's sleep."
Alexander thought, 'So she made those comments because she was bothered by the contract? Or was she just stating our contractual relationship? My feelings for her are obvious now, aren't they?—she should know Ilike her, right? She had responded clearly, hadn't she?' Alexander glanced at the ceiling, finding this dilemma harder than business.
In the morning, Lillian woke up feeling something pressing on her chest. With her eyes closed, she thought, 'Luke's arm is too heavy, making it hard for me to breathe.'
She groggily opened her eyes and found Luke sleeping peacefully in her embrace. She looked down and saw Alexander's arm on her chest. She lay in his arms, closely gripped.
What was up? If she was sleeping soundly, how did he grab her? He must have acted! After seeing him with his eyes closed, she slowly turned back and gently took his arm away. She left bed.
As soon as she started to sit up, Alexander's arm gently pressed her back down. He nuzzled her neck and asked, "Where are you going?"
He acted like a puppy, his soft hair tickling her, making her laugh. "Get up, I'm ticklish. I need to go to the bathroom."
Alexander let her go, groggily saying, "Go ahead, you can come back and sleep a bit more."
Lillian sat up and patted him. "I bet you switched places with Luke while he was asleep. How shameless."
With his eyes closed, Alexander feigned ignorance, "I didn't. I slept through the night. Don't accuse me."
Lillian slapped his thigh. "You're lying!"
Alexander buried his head, showing a mischievous smile.
After breakfast, Alexander returned to the room and said to Lillian, who was still in bed, "I'm leaving."
Lillian, who hadn't fallen back asleep after waking up, was playing on her phone. "Okay, bye."
Lillian said to him, "I want to visit Debra today, is that okay?"
"Debra? Who's Debra?" Alexander asked.
Lillian replied, "She's Leo's mom. Lola told me yesterday that she's in the hospital. I want to visit her. Debra has been very kind to me."
Alexander thought for a moment and said, "Wait for me to come back at noon. I'll go with you."
"Alright," Lillian agreed.
In the morning, everyone in the executive office was busy working. The elevator doors opened, and Lola, dressed in a suit with her chin held high, walked out.
"Has Mr. Sinclair arrived?" Lola asked arrogantly when she saw Shae standing at the door of the executive office.
Shae glanced at her, then closed the folder and asked coldly, "Who are you? What do you want with Mr. Sinclair?"
As Lillian's sister, Lola didn't take Shae seriously and asked with a sneer, "Who are you? Do I need to explain myself to you?"
Shae chuckled at the retort, seeing Lola's strong presence but also mindful that Lola might be there for business with Alexander. She didn't dare argue further and forced a smile, saying, "Mr. Sinclair isn't here."
Lola, satisfied with her attitude, smiled victoriously and said, "Then I'll wait for him in his office."
Shae glared at her back. Where did this shameless woman come from?
Lola headed towards the president's office but was stopped by Kaitlyn. "Who are you looking for?"
Lola turned and said, "I'm looking for Mr. Sinclair. I'm here to work."
Kaitlyn asked coldly, "Lola, right? Come over here."
Lola was taken aback and pointed to the office. "I'll wait for Mr. Sinclair."
"No need to wait for Mr. Sinclair. You're under my supervision," Kaitlyn said, coming out from behind her desk. "Follow me."
Lola looked longingly at the president's office door, not even getting a chance to look inside before being stopped. Reluctantly, she followed Kaitlyn to the executive office.
"Hello, everyone, wehave a new colleague, Lola, an intern secretary," Kaitlyn said, pointing to Shirley's old spot. "You can take that desk for now." After arranging this, she left.
Lola sat at the desk, feeling dejected and upset. She thought, 'Didn't Lisa say I would be Alexander's personal secretary?'
"So, you're just an intern secretary like me. Why so arrogant?" Shae mocked from beside her.
