Chapter 343 Times Change, And We Change with Them

Alexander's face darkened at the questioning. "Jared, this matter is not for you to question me about!"

"Alexander, I'm standing up for Amy!" Jared said through gritted teeth. "I was with her through the tough times when she went abroad. I know all the hardships she endured, and it pains me. Your mother caused her such harm, and you remain indifferent?"

Alexander faced him, silent for a moment, feeling guilty for Samantha. "Jared, we'll talk about Amy's illness when we get back. When she wakes up, take her home and comfort her."

"Jared?" Suddenly, Amy came downstairs, standing not far away, staring blankly at Jared.

Alexander and Jared stared at her in surprise. With a bewildered expression and clouded eyes, she looked at Jared and asked, "The Christmas party is in the evening. Why are you here so early?" After speaking, she glanced out the window and said with a hint of delight, "Look, it's snowing outside. I love it when it snows on Christmas."

Jared suspiciously looked out the window, but it was a bright sunny day, and Alexander's face was also serious as he looked at Amy.

"Since you're here, wait for me. I'll get ready now and make sure I look beautiful." Amy said, turning and running back upstairs, humming happily.

Jared's eyes were filled with melancholy as he said to Alexander, "It seems she thinks we're in Country X. I recall our first year here when I took her to the Christmas party; it was snowing outside then."

Alexander nodded slightly. "It's like she's immersed in her world."

Jared pleaded with him, "Alexander, please help Amy. Only you can help her get better!"

"Her illness can only be treated by a doctor," Alexander said,  "Jared, I'll find the best doctor for her and provide the best environment. This is the greatest assistance I can offer her; beyond that, there's nothing more I can do."

Seeing his firm attitude, Jared knew he wouldn't be easily persuaded. He sighed heavily and said dejectedly, "Alright, since you don't agree, I won't force you. I'll take Amy back home later."

"Jared," Alexander suddenly called out to him, then solemnly said, "I won't go back on my word about the medical help."

Jared said nothing, just nodded silently, and went upstairs to find Amy.

Samantha, full and satisfied, lay on the bed, the pain on her face and body making her afraid to move. "That bitch almost killed me. Just wait until we get back, and see how I get my revenge!" she muttered viciously to herself.

Just as she finished speaking, Alexander pushed the door open and entered.

"Mom," he sat by the bed and asked, "Feeling any better?"

"Eat something; it gives me some strength," Samantha said with a grimace. "I'm already old, and after being worn out by her for three days, I'm in pain all over and can't move."

Alexander said, "Mom, I'll stay with you here for a week to recover, then we'll go back. We are going to have a celebration party for Henry and William."

Samantha exclaimed softly, "We must go back. I have to attend their celebration party."

"Mom, there's one more thing I want to talk to you about," Alexander said carefully, "What do you plan to do about your grudge with Amy?"

Samantha squinted at Alexander and asked, "Alexander, what do you mean by that?"

After a moment of silence, Alexander said, "Mom, ultimately, it was your mistake that led to everything that followed. Amy is very ill now and remains trapped in the aftermath of the accident. I think we should do something to make amends; perhaps this might help her condition improve."

Samantha closed her eyes and sneered, "Alexander, don't be fooled by her act. Insanity? It's all a pretense! Have you ever seen a mentally ill person hire an assassin for a kidnapping? Everything she does is precise, even her torture. There's no sign of her serious mental illness."

"Mom, her illness is not feigned. I believe it would be appropriate for you to offer her an apology, regardless of the circumstances." Alexander said.

"Didn't she always say she didn't want our apology? Besides, I don't think I did anything wrong. If I hadn't done what I did, you would have been the one in trouble!" Samantha said urgently.

Alexander couldn't say Samantha was wrong, even though he despised such behavior and thought it was wrong.

"Alright, don't try to persuade me to apologize to Amy. She hurt me like this; she should apologize to me!" Samantha interjected swiftly as she noticed Alexander about to speak once more.

Alexander looked at Samantha with dissatisfaction. Her face showed no sign of feeling she was wrong, leaving him helpless. At this moment, the butler knocked and entered, saying softly, "Mr. Sinclair, Jared is leaving."

Hearing this, Alexander went downstairs to find Jared and Amy standing together. Amy had changed clothes and tied her hair up. When she saw Alexander approaching, she looked at him as if she didn't recognize him.

"I'll have the driver take you to the airport," Alexander said to Jared, then looked at Amy. Since coming back from abroad, it had only been half a year, yet Amy had become like this, making him sigh.

"Amy, I won't hold what you did against you. When you get back, take good care of yourself, okay?" Alexander said gently.

Amy looked up at him, her eyes blinking, then turned to Jared and asked, "Jared, is he your friend? Why is he saying strange things to me?"

Jared smiled. "Yes, he likes to say strange things to others."

Amy nodded blankly, then awkwardly smiled at Alexander.

"We're leaving now," Jared said, taking Amy to the car.

Alexander stood with his hands behind his back, watching the car drive away, and couldn't help but sigh. As he turned back, Peter came over and handed him his phone, saying, "Mrs. Sinclair called."

Alexander took the phone, turned to the floor-to-ceiling window, and immediately smiled, saying cheerfully, "Honey, did you miss me?"

Hearing his relaxed tone, Lillian asked in confusion, "How are things over there? Is your mother okay?"

"She's fine. I'll stay with her here for a week, and then we'll go back. I'll tell you everything when I get back," Alexander said. "Are Henry and William behaving?"

"They're behaving, and so am I," Lillian said playfully.

Alexander felt very happy and said in the same playful tone, "Honey, I miss you!"
