Chapter 285 Wendy's Parents Came Back Early
Caspian chuckled, "How am I a douchebag? I'm just a pitiful person who loves but can never have, okay?"
"People who are pitiful must have something detestable about them!" Wendy pretended to be angry and said to him, "You had a conflict with Ms. Phillips but used me. If you're not a douchebag, then what are you?"
Caspian said, "Didn't I apologize to you later and even took you out for dinner? Let's not bring this up again."
They clinked their beer cans and continued eating and chatting.
"Do you still think I'm a jerk now?" He placed a grilled chicken wing on her plate and asked with a smile.
Wendy answered seriously, "Actually, you're quite loyal and good-natured. During those two power outages, you could have left since we weren't that close. No one would have blamed you for not staying, but you did stay with me. I think you're pretty kind."
Caspian shook his head and smiled helplessly, eating the meat from the grill.
"I've noticed that you do have a good temper and you don't act all high and mighty. I like that about you," Wendy continued to list his good qualities.
Caspian nodded in satisfaction and praised, "Well said, keep going."
"I've praised you so much, now it's your turn to praise me. What are my good qualities? Tell me," Wendy asked expectantly.
Caspian took a sip of his beer, pretended to think, and didn't say anything, looking like he didn't know what to say.
"Seriously? Is it that hard to come up with a good quality about me?" Wendy felt a bit embarrassed.
Caspian looked at her and slowly said, "Your good quality is that you're quite innocent. But that's also your flaw."
"And then?" Wendy suddenly felt annoyed by his critique.
"And you're kind of silly," Caspian said with a troubled expression, not knowing how to put it.
Wendy waved her hand in frustration, "If you can't say anything, just don't say anything. I won't make it hard for you."
Caspian breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Wendy, it's not that you're not good enough, it's that I haven't realized it yet."
Wendy rolled her eyes at him and took a sip of her beer.
Time passed by, and the moon quietly climbed up the treetops. The people cooling off outside gradually went home.
Wendy and Caspian were slightly tipsy, with the meat on the grill almost gone, and beer cans scattered haphazardly on the ground. They sat on the couch, each happily enjoying an ice pop in their hand.
"Is it good? I learned how to make it online," Wendy said proudly.
Caspian sneered, "It's not that hard. Just pour the drink into a mold and freeze it, right?"
"You're right, that's exactly how I did it," Wendy felt defeated as he exposed her.
Caspian, unwilling to move after drinking, noticed it was already past nine and said, "I'll stay here tonight and leave tomorrow."
"No way!" Wendy refused, "It's not that late. Call your driver to take you home."
"Come on, let me stay for one night. I've stayed at your place before. What's the big deal?" Caspian asked, puzzled.
Wendy, holding her popsicle, got up and pulled his arm, saying, "That was because of the power outage. There was a reason for it."
Caspian stayed put on the couch and said, "I won't do anything to you. What's the harm in staying one night? I'm not leaving, I'm staying here."
"No, I won't let you stay!" Wendy insisted, pulling his arm to make him get up.
The two of them tugged back and forth. Caspian, seeing her stubbornness, pulled his arm back forcefully, causing Wendy to lose her balance and fall onto him.
"Wendy, we're back!"
The door suddenly opened, and Wendy's father, Patrick Lewis, and her mother, Jessica Rivera, walked in cheerfully, then froze in place.
Wendy's arm was around Caspian's neck, and Caspian's hands were on her waist, making the scene look very intimate.
The popsicle in Wendy's mouth fell onto Caspian's forehead as she asked in surprise, "Dad, Mom, why are you back ahead of schedule?"
Patrick, being well-educated, though angry, maintained a calm exterior and said in a steady voice, "Wendy, get up."
Reminded by Patrick, Wendy realized she was lying on Caspian and quickly got up, hurriedly explaining, "Dad, It's not what you think it is."
Jessica, looking at the beer cans on the floor, frowned and asked, "Have you been drinking?"
"A little bit," Wendy said softly, lowering her head.
Caspian, unhurried, straightened his clothes, stood up, and politely said to Patrick and Jessica, "Hello, I'm Wendy's friend, Caspian."
Wendy tugged at his shirt from behind, signaling him to leave quickly.
Patrick and Jessica put their suitcases aside, changed into slippers, and sat on the couch with cold expressions, asking, "Have you finished eating?"
"Yes, we have," Wendy quickly said, "Dad, he's about to leave. I'll see him out."
She said this and pushed Caspian towards the door.
"Wait a minute," Patrick turned and asked, "Is that your car outside? Find a designated driver to take you home."
"Dad, he has a driver coming to pick him up," Wendy said, "We'll wait outside."
Patrick was about to call her back, but Jessica gently nudged him, letting them go.
Outside the building, Wendy, looking distressed, said to Caspian, "It's over. My parents must have misunderstood. They must be really angry!"
"Your parents seem easy to get along with. They even reminded me to find a designated driver," Caspian said, then called his driver.
Wendy, a bit proud, said, "Of course, my parents are very cultured."
Then, with a sense of doom, she said, "When I go back, I'm going to get scolded!"
Caspian said, "We didn't do anything wrong. Just had dinner. It's not that serious, is it?"
"You don't understand. My family is very strict. They would never allow me to bring a man home. Of course, except for a boyfriend they approve of," Wendy felt uncomfortable thinking about how strictly she had been raised.
Caspian said, "Then just say I'm your boyfriend and I'll come back another day to formally meet them. I don't mind you using me."
Wendy sneered, "That won't work. Right now, you don't have a good impression in their eyes. If you were my boyfriend, they would oppose it. Anyway, bringing a man home to drink while they were outside is a big mistake in their eyes. I'm going to get scolded."
Caspian said, "Let me ask you, have you ever had a rebellious phase?"
Wendy shook her head, "Not really. I've always been obedient. The only disobedient thing I've done is quitting a stable job behind their backs to work for Ms. Phillips."
