Chapter 187 Lillian Visits Grandma
In the morning, after Lillian and Kelly had breakfast, they were just shooting the breeze when Oscar called.
"Lillian, you home today? Wanna swing by and see you," Oscar asked.
"Yeah, I'm home. Come on over. Got something to tell you," Lillian replied, grinning.
"Oscar's coming? I'll whip up some of his fave dishes tonight," Kelly smiled. "Been a minute since he was here."
Lillian missed Oscar too. Now that cash wasn't a problem and the surgery was set, she wanted to share the good news face-to-face.
Just then, Alexander called to give her a heads-up, "Grandma's fine. Don't stress."
"That's awesome," Lillian sighed in relief. "You still gotta stay there?"
Alexander replied, "Grandpa's down with stress from Grandma's illness, so I can't bounce yet."
"Grandpa's sick too?" Lillian's heart sank again.
"Alright, take good care of them," she said quickly.
Luke asked, "Is Uncle Alexander not coming back now?"
"Grandpa's sick too," Lillian checked the time and said to Kelly. "I wanna hit the hospital. Both Grandpa and Grandma are in there. I should go."
Kelly said, "Is everything stable over there? Maybe you can go tomorrow."
Lillian replied, "Grandma's fine, and Grandpa's in the ward. Everything seems sorted. I wanna see Grandma. She might feel better if she sees me."
Kelly thought for a moment and said, "Alright, let's roll today. I'm also worried about Grandma Sinclair."
Lillian told Luke, "Stay home with Melvin. Oscar's coming over later. Do your homework and practice the piano. Uncle Alexander will check when he gets back tonight."
"I wanna go too. I'm worried about her," Luke said.
"I'll take you in a few days," Lillian said, patting his head.
Lillian went to her room to change clothes, grabbed her bag, and came out with Kelly.
"Kelly, I'll drive," she offered.
"You're pregnant. How can you drive?" Kelly exclaimed. "Let's grab a taxi. Might be quicker than calling a driver from the Sinclair Villa."
Lillian nodded, and they walked towards the community gate while checking her phone. But it was the weekend, and their place was far from the city center, so few taxis were around.
They stood at the gate, soaking up the warm weather and waiting for a car without any rush.
Suddenly, a black car pulled up in front of them. As the window rolled down, Michael leaned over, saying, "Ms. Hill, heading out?"
Lillian tilted her head slightly and said, "Michael, it's you. Yeah, we're heading out."
"Can't get a taxi, huh? Hop in, I'll give you a lift," Michael said.
Lillian refused, "Thanks, Michael, but we don't wanna trouble you. A taxi will come soon."
Michael insisted, "Come on, it's just a ride. Don't be shy."
Lillian glanced at Kelly, who said, "Let's get in. Don't hurt his feelings."
Realizing the logic, Lillian said to Michael, "Alright, thanks, Michael."
Lillian and Kelly got into the back seat, and Michael started driving.
"Heading to Whispering Hospital? Are you feeling under the weather?" Michael asked.
"No, it's our elders who are hospitalized," Lillian replied.
Michael grinned and said, "So you and Mr. Sinclair are already hitched. You've kept it on the down-low. I thought you were just dating."
Lillian, puzzled, asked, "How did you know, Michael?"
Michael just smiled and teased, "Just a hunch!"
Kelly gave him a knowing look.
Lillian thought Michael was pretty sharp, figuring out her relationship with Alexander from just one sentence. No wonder Alexander didn't want her hanging out with him.
She smiled and said, "Your hunch is spot on, Michael!"
Michael said, "I saw you with Mr. Sinclair before and thought you didn't seem like just colleagues. Turns out there was more to it."
He glanced at her through the rearview mirror and said mischievously, "Don't worry, I won't spill the beans."
Lillian smiled back.
When the car stopped at Whispering Hospital, Lillian thanked Michael, who told her not to mention it.
As they got out, Kelly said, "Did Mr. Sinclair tell you to keep your distance from Michael?"
Lillian nodded. "He did."
"Then you should listen to him," Kelly advised.
They bought a big bouquet of flowers at the hospital entrance and called Alexander. Surprised to hear she was there, he told her to wait, and he would come to get her.
Soon, Alexander came out, saw Lillian and Kelly, and said, "I knew you'd come."
Lillian said, "Is everyone in the ward? I couldn't relax if I didn't come."
Alexander took her hand and said, "Yes. Grandma is awake now. She'll be happy to see you."
Upon entering the inpatient building, Alexander asked her to wear a mask to avoid infection. They took the elevator to the VIP ward.
It was a large suite, with a lounge area outside and the ward inside.
Lillian followed Alexander in, seeing Quinn, Samantha, Leah, and Beatrice's family. Fortunately, the ward was spacious, so it didn't feel crowded.
With so many people around, Lillian felt a bit reserved, holding Alexander's hand tightly.
"Lillian is here," Beatrice said from the sofa, smiling faintly. "Grandma was just asking about you. Go in and see her."
Lillian nodded obediently and followed Alexander inside.
Beatrice and Rena watched her closely. After she went in, Beatrice whispered, "She's almost three months pregnant, right?"
Rena nodded silently. "Almost."
Beatrice looked worried. Previously, when Blake got married and Rena quickly became pregnant, she felt proud in front of Samantha and gained a higher position in Ethan's heart. With her usual flattery, she was about to secure company shares. But unexpectedly, Alexander also got married and had a child on the way, threatening her share. How could she tolerate that?
Beatrice said, "Rena, you have a competitor now. Although we are having a child earlier, hers is legitimate. If the worst were to happen, we might be kicked out after she gives birth!"
