Chapter 303 The Return of Amy's Friend

Amy looked at Blake in confusion, "What? I didn't go anywhere."

She felt quite annoyed by his questioning, thinking he was being a bit nosy.

Blake gave a mischievous smile and asked again, "What mischief were you up to last night?" He gestured with his eyes towards her neck and pointed with his finger.

Amy puzzledly took the mirror from the counter and saw a hickey on her neck. She calmly adjusted her shirt collar and said indifferently, "It's just a mosquito bite."

Blake smirked but said nothing, then asked, "Have there been any developments in your relationship with Alexander lately?"

Amy glared at him and said unhappily, "Why do you care?"

"I am just worried about you," Blake said with a roguish smile. "I'm waiting for you to give up on him so I can pursue you."

Amy gave him a speechless look and said weakly, "Blake, just drop it."

"What's wrong? Your methods not working?" Blake teased her as he saw her awkward expression. "Why don't you just give up and be with me? He's my brother, so rounding up, it's almost like being with Alexander. I don't mind if your heart is with him as long as you're by my side."

"You're generous," Amy said, surprised by his words.

She leisurely looked at Blake, his face bearing many similarities to Alexander's, with a playful demeanor. Gradually, their faces overlapped in her mind, making her heart flutter for a moment.

Suddenly, her phone rang, waking her from her daze. She looked at the phone, her expression changed, and then she immediately walked towards the back lounge.

Blake's eyes followed her, wondering who was calling. The hint of infatuation in her eyes earlier had not escaped him. It seemed like making her fall in love with him was just a matter of time.

Amy went to the lounge and answered the call.

"Jared? Why are you calling me at this time?" Her tone was filled with surprise.

Jared Chambers, male, 26, met Amy abroad and became friends, accompanying her through her most painful days.

His companionship moved Amy deeply, and she considered him her best friend. Jared, however, gradually fell hopelessly in love with Amy. Of course, this was just his secret crush, as he knew all about her and was very self-aware.

"I'm back in the country! Surprised?" Jared said excitedly over the phone. "I just got off the plane!"

"You're back too?" Amy checked the time and said, "Wait for me at the airport, I'll come to pick you up."

Jared said, "No need, I'll just take the bus."

Amy said, "No way, wait for me at the airport!"

Amy hung up the phone, came out of the lounge, and said to Blake, "Mr. Sinclair, I need to take a day off today. A friend from abroad is back, and I need to pick him up."

Blake teased, "Boyfriend?"

"Yes, boyfriend." Amy deliberately smiled to annoy him and left with her bag.

In the airport hall, Jared, dressed in casual clothes, stood waiting for Amy. With his handsome features, high nose bridge, and tall stature, he attracted frequent glances from passing girls Some bold ones even approached to ask for his Facebook.

"Sorry, I already have a girlfriend. Thanks." Jared smiled gently, and those rejected didn't feel resentful.

After sending them away, someone patted his shoulder from behind and asked, "When did you get a girlfriend? Why didn't you tell me?"

Jared turned to see Amy, happily hugged her, and spun her around in excitement. To onlookers, they might have seemed like a long-distance couple reunited.

"Why did you suddenly come back?" Amy asked jokingly after being put down, "Did your father call you back to get married?"

"What are you thinking?" Jared knocked her head lightly. "You came back, so it was boring to stay there alone. That's why I returned."

Amy asked in surprise, "What about your job?"

"I quit. How could I have come back without quitting my job?" Jared said nonchalantly.

Amy said, "Quit? Such a good job, and you just quit? You're too reckless!"

"It's just a job. I can work anywhere. The most important thing is who will be by my side." Jared looked at her intently.

He liked her, though he hadn't explicitly said it, she knew but could only pretend not to.

"Did you miss me? The days without you felt like years." Jared joked though he was speaking his true feelings.

Amy linked her arm with his and walked out together, saying, "Of course I missed you. There's no one to listen to me complain and no one to watch horror movies with me. I even miss your terrible cooking. Life was so dull without you."

Jared looked down at her and asked with concern, "Have you been taking your medication?"

Amy hesitated and said, "No, I've been very busy with work, no time to get sick."

Jared sighed in relief, "That's good. I was worried about you abroad."

He probed, "You didn't contact me after coming back. Did you reconcile with him? Did you tell him everything?"

Amy smiled bitterly and said, "It's far from being that simple."

"What happened?" Jared's heart tightened, and he comforted her, "Don't be sad. Whatever happens, I'm here for you."

Amy smiled at him and nodded.

Jared's family was also in business, not as wealthy as the Sinclair family, but still well-off. He had a villa in Ridgewood. After returning, he didn't go to his parents' house but went straight to his place.

The over 4,000 square feet apartment felt lonely with just him living there.

"I'm not going back to the store this afternoon. I'll treat you to dinner. What do you want to eat?" Amy asked excitedly.

Jared, while packing his luggage, curiously asked, "What kind of work are you doing now?"

"Jewelry store customer manager," Amy said. "I can't handle office work. This is also under the Whale Group."

Jared glanced at her and said, "Let's eat at home tonight. Didn't you say you missed my terrible cooking? I'll cook for you. We haven't seen each other in a long time, let's sit and talk."

"Okay," Amy agreed. "I'll order the groceries online."

Jared's return brought a bit of warmth to Amy's broken heart. He knew her past, and she didn't have to pretend in front of him. He was like her family, always appearing to save her when she felt helpless.
