Chapter 323 The Good News Brought by Ethan
Justin nodded indifferently, clearly still not forgiving Ethan. Samantha's face also looked grim because of what happened during the day as she remained silent.
Feeling sorry for Ethan, Linda said to the butler, "Go ask him if he's had dinner. If not, have him join us."
The butler went out and returned shortly, saying, "He said he already ate before coming over. He seems to be in a good mood like he has some good news to share."
"Good news?" Justin sneered, "His good news is better left unsaid; no one wants to hear it."
Ethan and Beatrice's arrival completely altered everyone's dining mood. After finishing their meal, they left the dining room and proceeded to the living room.
"Dad, Mom, have you finished dinner?" Ethan asked with a smile, his eyes brimming with uncontrollable joy.
Sitting beside him, Beatrice also called out sweetly, "Dad, Mom."
Justin sat down, leisurely lifted the teacup, and took a slow sip, displaying a distinctly indifferent attitude toward them.
"Why did you come over so late? It would have been better if you came earlier to have dinner with me and your dad," Linda complained to Ethan, casting a dissatisfied glance at Beatrice.
Leah, sitting next to Lillian, looked at Beatrice and whispered, "Why does Beatrice's face look worse than before? She shouldn't stop her beauty treatments."
Lillian glanced at Beatrice and noticed that she seemed somewhat languid, her skin lacking its previous radiance.
"Beatrice and I went to the hospital today." Given their age, talking about going to the hospital should usually be accompanied by a look of helplessness and discomfort. But Ethan was different; his eyes crinkled into a smile, and his voice gained a newfound confidence. "Dad, Mom, I have some good news to share! Beatrice is pregnant!"
Samantha's teacup fell to the ground with a crash, and she looked at Ethan in shock. Naturally, the reactions of the others were much the same as Samantha's. Even Alexander looked at Ethan with considerable shock, his face filled with disbelief.
"Holy crap!" Leah exclaimed, though she kept her voice low so no one noticed, "Beatrice is pregnant? Then it means another person to share the inheritance. I need to tell Bernice this bad news quickly!"
Lillian also stared at them in a daze, wondering whether they were truly in love. She glanced around at the others, who, after their initial shock, didn't look pleased at all.
"Ethan, are you serious?" Linda asked in surprise, "Is she pregnant and not suffering from some gynecological issue?"
Beatrice smiled and said, "Mom, at first, I thought I was ill and took medication. But something felt off, so I told Ethan. He got very worried and took me to the hospital. We expected bad news, but to our surprise, I'm pregnant again!" She finished, blushing with embarrassment and covering her face with her hands.
Samantha snapped out of her shock and started laughing coldly, her laughter growing louder. She glared at Ethan and sarcastically asked, "How old are you? Is the child even yours?"
"Samantha!" Ethan slammed the table, shouting, "What do you mean by that? Are you questioning my ability or Beatrice's character? Don't go too far with your words!"
Ethan had no patience left for Samantha.
Lillian and Leah awkwardly turned their faces away, and Alexander looked sternly at Ethan, thinking Justin was right; no one liked Ethan's so-called good news.
Justin slowly stood up and coldly said to Ethan, "Come to the study with me! Alexander, you too!"
They went upstairs, leaving the others looking at each other in confusion. Linda, disliking Beatrice, said to Lillian, "Lillian, come with me to see the kids."
Feeling out of place, Leah conveniently received a call from Bernice and walked away while talking on the phone.
For a moment, only Samantha and Beatrice were left facing each other. One was filled with deep resentment, the other with smugness.
"Bitch!" Samantha couldn't hold back and cursed angrily.
Beatrice, unfazed, brushed her hair back and smiled. "Samantha, you've been calling me a bitch for thirty years now. Aren't you tired of it? I'm certainly sick of hearing it."
"The child isn't Ethan's, is it?" Samantha asked through gritted teeth.
Beatrice blinked innocently and said, "Samantha, I'm devoted to Ethan. If the child isn't his, whose could it be? Don't slander me!"
Samantha squinted at her, her chest heaving, and sarcastically said, "That's a question you should ask yourself. Who is the father of this child?"
Beatrice's face darkened as she shouted, "Samantha, don't push your luck. Ethan and I have a strong relationship. If you can’t win his love, that’s your fault!" She then smiled and touched her belly. "Samantha, give it up. Ethan has no feelings for you anymore. Why not divorce him?"
"No way! You'll never be Ethan's wife!" Samantha's anger surged after hearing her words.
Beatrice shrugged indifferently, glancing down at her fingers, speaking slowly, "Today, someone sent a document and recording to Ethan's phone. I took a peek and realized it was about you. I was really surprised to find out how ruthless you are." She looked up and smiled. "Over the years, we have had our fair share of battles. The fact that I've survived this long suggests you've been merciful to me."
Her words, full of sarcasm, made Samantha's heart race with anger. "I knew it was you behind this!" She pointed at Beatrice and cursed.
"Ethan said you're so vicious that he definitely won't stay with you anymore!" Beatrice smiled slightly and said softly, "Your marriage is coming to an end."
Samantha felt a sudden tightness in her chest, struggling to catch her breath. Her mouth agape, she could only exhale without inhaling, and her body slumped backward, collapsing onto the sofa.
"Samantha," Beatrice called out hypocritically and quickly asked the butler to call an ambulance.
'You better not die, or I'll be up to my neck in trouble with no way to clear my name.' Beatrice thought coldly as she watched Samantha's face turn purple.
Hearing the commotion, the people upstairs came down. Seeing Samantha unconscious on the sofa, Alexander quickly went over to perform first aid.
Beatrice, crying beside him, said, "Alexander, I didn't say anything. We were just chatting, and she suddenly became like this. I'm really scared."
Alexander, shot her a cold look with a stern face, making her shut up.
Ethan came over and hugged Beatrice, comforting her, "Don't cry. No one blames you."
Lillian stood nearby, worriedly watching Samantha.
