Chapter 99 The New Secretary-General

The office was immediately abuzz with conversation.

Shirley whispered to Lillian, "She deserved it! Alexander isn't a fool. He must have seen through her tricks. It's good to clear out the troublemakers from the office. Well done."

"Don't say that. Actually, Taylor's work abilities are quite evident." Lillian said, not trying to excuse Taylor but stating a fact.

"She may be capable, but her character is terrible." Shirley replied. "She mixes personal grudges with work. Her integrity is questionable. How could Alexander possibly keep someone like that around?"

Lillian nodded in agreement and curiously added, "I wonder who will replace Taylor."

Just after speaking, the sound of confident high heels echoed through the office, heading straight to the CEO's office.

"Isn't that Kaitlyn from the Chairman's office?" someone whispered. "Is she here to replace Taylor?"

"No way." groaned a few senior employees.

Lillian and Shirley were newcomer and didn't know Kaitlyn.

"What's the deal? Is Kaitlyn very strict?" Lillian asked, puzzled.

Sarah nodded vigorously. "She's the Chairman's secretary. What do you think? She's very strict and demands a lot from her subordinates. The secretaries trained by her are all outstanding and capable of handling things independently."

"Isn't that a good thing? We can learn a lot." Lillian said.

Sarah grimaced, showing a frightened expression. "You have no idea. Her methods for training newcomers are brutal. Isn't it scary to memorize the entire business dictionary in a week?"

Lillian and Shirley exchanged glances and asked in unison, "Did you memorize it?"

"Of course not. I'm not a genius!" Sarah shrugged. "I'm just emphasizing how extreme her methods are."

Lillian didn't see it that way. It was like having a strict teacher. The stricter they were, the more responsible they were for their students. She wanted a boss like that, at least she wouldn't be doing pointless work.

After that, everyone stopped discussing and got back to work.

Kaitlyn came out of Alexander's office and entered the general secretary's office. Just standing there, she exuded an imposing aura without saying a word.

"Starting today, I am joining the general secretary's office as the Secretary-General. I have only one requirement for everyone. Be serious about your work. In a moment, each of you will write a work report and send it to my email."

After speaking, Kaitlyn scanned the room and asked, "Who is Lillian?"

Lillian, being called out, quickly responded, "Here."

Kaitlyn looked at her sternly and said, "Hand over your current work to your colleagues. You will be my assistant."

"Okay, I understand," Lillian replied seriously. She was thrilled because her wish had just come true!

Shirley congratulated her happily, "Congratulations! Being the Secretary-General's assistant means you'll learn a lot."

Several other colleagues looked at her with complex expressions, a mix of jealousy and a desire to see her struggle under Kaitlyn's tough training.

Lillian handed over all her work to Shirley and said self-deprecatingly, "Sorry, I can only hand it over to you."

"No problem. Ninety percent of this work won't need to be done. Kaitlyn will assign new tasks. Go ahead, do well, and learn seriously. She will like you." Shirley encouraged her.

Lillian nodded firmly, packed her things, and went to Kaitlyn's office.

Kaitlyn's desk was long and wide, specially brought in earlier. Not far away was a slightly smaller desk, which was Lillian's.

"This is your desk." Kaitlyn said as she efficiently organized her things.

"The desk is so big." Lillian said with a smile, placing her box on the desk.

Kaitlyn replied, "Once you put the computer, printer, and other things on it, you'll find it's not that big." She glanced at her and urged, "Hurry up and get organized. Don't waste time."

Lillian had few things, so she quickly got organized. Just as she sat down, Kaitlyn threw a stack of folders at her and said, "Read through all of these in two hours, organize them, and send them to my email."

"Okay," Lillian said, full of motivation, not wasting a moment.

The documents Kaitlyn gave her were ones she had never seen before. She read them carefully and quickly, taking notes as she went.

"Kaitlyn," Lillian suddenly turned and called her, hesitating for a moment before asking, "Can I ask why you chose me?"

Kaitlyn, still looking at her computer, quickly replied, "Because you are the least capable."

Alright then. Lillian felt a bit ashamed and immediately focused on her work.

Kaitlyn's style was very strict, and Lillian's entire workday was filled with high-intensity tasks. By the end of the day, Lillian was exhausted, lying back in her chair.

Kaitlyn packed up her things and threw a notebook onto Lillian's desk. "These are the phone numbers of companies that do business with the Sinclair Group and their CEOs. Memorize them tonight. I'll check tomorrow."

Lillian picked up the notebook and saw at least two hundred phone numbers. She forced a smile and said, "Got it."

After Kaitlyn left, Lillian also packed up to leave. Suddenly, she heard a familiar voice near the elevator, accompanied by someone on the phone.

"Lillian, you're still here?" It was Tom, standing by her desk with a smile.

No wonder the voice sounded familiar. It was him.

"I'm about to leave."

"Don't go. I have dinner plans with Alexander tonight. Join us." Tom said enthusiastically, pulling her into the office.

Alexander was putting on his coat. Seeing them come in together, he said to Tom, "Didn't I tell you to wait downstairs?"

Tom replied, "Bro, that's too much! Lillian is free, so why not bring her along? Let's all go together."

Alexander adjusted his collar and glanced at Lillian.

Lillian got the hint and quickly said to Tom, "I really have something to do. You guys go ahead."

"Come on. Even if you have something, you can postpone it. You guys are getting married. Shouldn't you treat me to a meal?" Tom teased with a smile.

"Let's go then." Alexander said, heading out the door first.

Lillian followed behind, not wanting to go at all. She needed to memorize the phone numbers. How could she have the time or mood for dinner? Besides, Alexander didn't seem to want her there. What was the point of going?

In the parking garage, she walked toward Alexander's car. She intended to sit in the front passenger seat, but Tom, walking ahead, beat her to it. She had no choice but to sit in the back.

Kevin drove toward the restaurant. Alexander and Tom chatted casually, but Lillian couldn't join the conversation. She took out the notebook, snapped a photo with her phone, and quietly started memorizing each phone number.
