Chapter 310 Discovering the Secret
A few girls chatted on the balcony for a while and then went downstairs. In the living room, Amos was sitting alone on the sofa, looking down at his phone.
"Amos, why did you come out?" Evelyn sat down next to him and asked.
Amos put away his phone and said with a self-deprecating smile, "Mr. Sinclair and the others placed too many bets, I couldn't keep up."
He hesitated for a while and then said, "Besides, I saw Mr. Wade there, and I was afraid of upsetting him and ruining the mood, so I came out first."
Evelyn said apologetically, "Amos, It's my fault, I didn't think it through."
"It's okay, you just wanted me to get along with your friends quickly," Amos said understandingly.
Lillian said, "Mr. Dalton, we have a home theater. If you're bored, you and Evelyn can watch a movie."
"Sure, let's go watch a movie," Amos said happily.
Lillian called Kelly and asked her to take the two of them to the theater.
After they left, Wendy said, "I feel like Amos is a two-faced person."
"Why do you think that?" Lillian asked curiously.
"I don't know, It's just my intuition. Anyway, I think he talks quite strangely," Wendy said regretfully. "It's a pity that Evelyn likes him."
Angela said, "That's Evelyn's business. You should mind your own business."
Before dinner, the men came out of the game room. Everyone sat in the living room, chatting happily.
Tom, like a cat seeing a fish, approached Angela and asked, "Angela, how have you been lately?"
"Not bad," Angela said, looking at him. "On the days you don't bother me, I always feel particularly good."
Hearing this, Tom looked deflated and dejected. Wendy couldn't help but laugh.
"What's so funny?" Angela gave Wendy a warning look and then turned to Tom, saying, "Tom, you've been good lately and haven't contacted me. Do you miss me a lot?"
Tom was stunned and then said dazely, "The feeling of missing you isn't very strong. Once I get busy, it's nighttime before I know it, and time flies by."
Angela said, "See, I wasn't lying to you. You don't like me that much. It's just that you never confessed to me in school, and that sense of loss made you think you liked me. That's why you pursued me after returning to the country. Now I've helped you see the truth. You only like me as a friend, right?"
Previously, Angela had been pestered by Tom to the point of exhaustion. Finally, one day she had some free time and arranged to meet him for a long talk. They agreed not to contact each other for a month to see what would happen. Now it was clear that he was fine without her, and it seemed his feelings for her were just remnants from their school days.
"Angela, you're right. I've been reflecting and thinking a lot lately," Tom said, he understood the gist. "I won't bother you anymore."
"The best way to stop loving someone is to love someone else," Angela patted his shoulder and said, "Let me introduce you to a girlfriend."
"Who?"
Angela said, "What kind of girl are you looking for? I'll keep an eye out for you."
"Someone gentle and cute."
"Got it," Angela nodded.
After she finished speaking, she unintentionally looked up and saw Theodore smiling at her from across the room. He had his arms crossed, and one hand subtly gave her a thumbs-up.
Angela stifled a laugh and gave him a meaningful look. They both smiled simultaneously.
Wendy noticed that Caspian, unlike his usual lively self at gatherings, was just looking down at his phone. She moved closer and asked, "What's wrong? Are you upset that Ms. Phillips brought her boyfriend?"
Caspian sneered and said, "I've moved on, you know? Stop asking such stupid questions, it makes me look like I have poor taste in friends."
Wendy rolled her eyes and pursed her lips, thinking, "You're so stubborn. Do you think I can't see the sadness on your face?"
Caspian's phone suddenly chimed with a Facebook notification. He opened it and showed it to Wendy, saying, "Look, your dad messaged me again."
"Caspian, I called Wendy, but she didn't answer. Are you two together?" Patrick's voice message carried an authoritative tone.
Previously, Patrick somehow unlocked Wendy's phone, found Caspian's number and Facebook account, and added him. Since then, he would occasionally send messages to Caspian, giving him advice and warnings. Fortunately, Caspian had a good temper and tolerated it. Sometimes, if the messages were interesting, he would share them with Wendy as a joke.
After listening, Wendy quickly said, "My phone was charging. I'll go get it."
"Just reply using my account."
"Forget it. If they know we're together, they'll have more to say." Wendy got up to get her phone.
The phone was fully charged. As she walked back, she glanced down at the missed calls and Facebook messages from Patrick. Suddenly, a deep male voice emerged from the corner, saying, "Honey, do you miss me? I'll be back tonight. Wait for me. Love you."
Wendy instinctively stopped in her tracks. Who was it? She quickly thought it over. Everyone was chatting in the living room except for Evelyn and Amos. That voice sounded like him!
"Honey, Please stop messing around. Please understand me, okay?" Amos whispered, covering his mouth. "I have to humor that fool during the day, or what will we eat and drink? How will you buy designer bags? Be good."
Wendy stood frozen. Did he mean he was deceiving Evelyn? That bastard!
She didn't move, wanting to hear more. But suddenly, someone patted her shoulder, startling her.
"Evelyn, you almost scared me to death," Wendy said, patting her chest and glancing back at the source of the voice.
"Sorry, I just wanted to tease you," Evelyn said, patting her head. "What are you doing here?"
"My phone finished charging, so I was checking who contacted me."
"Let's go back."
Wendy hesitated and asked, "Weren't you watching a movie with Mr. Dalton? Where is he?"
Evelyn said nonchalantly, "We didn't find any movie we wanted to watch. He kept getting calls, so we came out. He's probably somewhere making a call."
"I see." Wendy forced a smile and followed Evelyn back to the living room.
But she couldn't help glancing back. She felt like a pair of eyes were watching them from the dark corner.
