Chapter 361 Biological Mother Comes Knocking
Seeing such a classy woman, Lillian was surprised. "Harry, someone's here for you," she called out, turning around.
Clara Smith looked at Lillian, unable to hide her excitement, and asked in a trembling voice, "Are you Lillian?"
Lillian was even more surprised when she heard her name. "You know me?"
At this moment, Harry walked over, saying, "Who's looking for me?"
"It's me." Clara walked in, smiling at Harry.
Harry stood there, stunned, looking at her for a few seconds, and asked in disbelief, "How did you come back?"
Perhaps hearing the conversation from the kitchen, Lisa came out holding a spatula and asked, "Is Adam back?"
When she saw Clara in the living room, Lisa was also stunned, but then her reaction became more intense. She asked sharply, "What are you doing back here? How dare you come back?"
Her shout startled Lillian, making her shiver. She quickly reminded me, "Lisa, Henry, and William are still sleeping."
Lisa turned around to look at Lillian and said coldly, "Go back to your room!" She then shouted at Oscar, "You go in too!"
Clara saw Oscar, her eyes filled with strong emotions, and asked in disbelief, "Is this Oscar? He's grown so much?" she said, trying to walk towards him, but Lisa blocked her.
Lillian and Oscar exchanged glances and obediently went into the room, but they couldn't help but look back in confusion.
In the room, Alexander asked as he saw Lillian come, "What's going on?"
"A noble lady came, but Harry and Liisa aren't very welcoming," Lillian said, looking at Henry and William still sleeping on the bed, and sighed in relief.
"Didn't go well with Camille?" Alexander changed the topic.
"She wouldn't listen to a word I said," Lillian said helplessly, "She's waiting for me to have a worse life than hers."
Alexander sneered, "Don't worry about her. I usually don't interfere in my subordinates' matters, but since Camille is so stubborn, I'll talk to Trevor when we get back to work."
"With his character, talking is useless!" Lillian said.
Oscar, lying beside the kids, said, "Lillian, even if you help Camille, she'll think you're harming her. Besides, she has her issues. Alexander, you and Lillian should just leave it alone and wait for the day Camille regrets it."
Oscar's words, though harsh, were understandable to Lillian. When they were young, Camille often bullied Oscar, causing him significant psychological harm.
"If she doesn't listen, there's nothing we can do," Lillian said, "I've done and said what I should. She's not a child anymore."
"Get out! You're not welcome here! Get out!" Outside, Lisa's loud voice sounded.
However, Clararemained calmly, saying in a low voice, "Lisa, after all these years, you still have the same temper. Be careful of high blood pressure."
Harry said to Lisa, "Keep your voice down; don't wake the kids." He then said sternly to Clara, "Clara, from the day you left, you have had nothing to do with our family! Now please leave my house immediately!"
Clara ignored their words, brushed her hair back, and sat on the sofa. "Back then, I had my reasons too. If I hadn't left, Lillian's father would have beaten me to death sooner or later! He drank, gambled, and came home every day to beat me. I had no choice!"
"You had no choice? Then you abandoned Lillian and Oscar? How could you be so heartless as a mother?" Lisa didn't dare to shout, gritting her teeth and speaking with suppressed anger.
Clara sighed lightly and said to Lisa, "Although I haven't been around all these years, I've heard about your situation from others. You raised Lillian and Oscar, and I'm truly grateful to you. I came back this time to thank you properly."
"You should thank us properly!" Lisa said viciously to Clara, "From childhood to adulthood, Lillian and Oscar wanted for nothing; anything other children had, they also received. I supported them both through college. Last year, when Oscar had heart troubles and was hospitalized, I used all our savings to pay for his treatment with hesitation. And you, as their mother, neglected everything and pursued your happiness. These years, do you have any idea how much I've suffered for you? Reflect on that!"
Over those twenty years, Lisa indeed had a difficult time. The heavy burden of raising four children and the stress of daily life gradually wore her down, making her increasingly bitter and grasping.
In Lillian's room, it was very quiet, with the three of them playing on their phones. The house wasn't soundproof, and Lisa and Clara's conversation in the living room penetrated the walls, reaching their ears.
Lillian stared wide-eyed at Oscar in shock. Oscar was equally stunned, his face full of disbelief.
"Lillian, did you hear that?" Oscar was the first to speak, "She's our mother?"
Lillian nodded slowly and looked at Alexander, "Honey, did you hear that too?"
Alexander comforted them, saying, "Honey, calm down and listen."
Lillian's heart was pounding wildly, finding it all too unbelievable.
"Oscar, didn't Lisa always tell us that our mother was dead? So she didn't die; she just couldn't bear the torment from our father and left us? And now she's back to reunite with us?" Lillian couldn't find the words to describe her feelings.
"It seems so," Oscar, still in shock, answered Lillian's question slowly, his brain processing everything sluggishly.
In the living room, Clara said, "Lisa, I appreciate your efforts. No matter what, you helped me raise Lillian and Oscar, and I can't let you do it for nothing." With that, she took her bag, pulled out a check, and started writing while saying, "My financial situation is currently stable. Here, take this first." Then she tore off the check and handed it over.
Lisa took it with a cold smile. Now that Alexander was Lillian's husband, it was understandable that she didn't care about others. But when her eyes saw the number on the check, she couldn't help but open her mouth in surprise, squinting her eyes to look closely at the numbers. "$400,000?"
