Chapter 181 Wendy, be my Girlfriend
Wendy let out a nervous chuckle, not sure what to say next.
Evelyn just turned and walked off without another word.
The receptionist watched her leave and whispered, "Why do I get the feeling Ms. Phillips is kinda pissed?"
"Really?" Wendy glanced back at Evelyn, feeling uneasy.
Evelyn ducked into an empty office, whipped out her phone, and called Caspian.
"Hey, Ms. Phillips, what's up?" Caspian answered, sounding lazy.
Evelyn cut to the chase, "Did you really take Wendy out for lunch today?"
"Didn't you tell me to? Why do you ask?" Caspian replied, acting all surprised.
Evelyn took a deep breath. "Caspian, can't you tell I was being sarcastic? If you wanna flirt, pick someone who’s cool with just a fling. Wendy's a sweet girl, so back off!"
"Wendy's my girl. What's wrong with grabbing lunch? Sometimes you want us together, sometimes you don't. You're kinda all over the place," Caspian shot back.
"Don't play dumb. You're just trying to get under my skin, aren't you?" Evelyn snapped. "When this blows up, let's see what you do then!"
"You're overthinking it. It's not always about you. Lunch with Wendy was chill, and I like her," Caspian said.
"Are you nuts? You're just gonna hurt her!" Evelyn was floored.
"The crazy one here is you!" Caspian said, hanging up, done with the argument.
Evelyn stared at her phone, feeling frustrated. But then she thought, 'If he won't listen, why should I care? They're grown-ups. They can handle it.'
Leaving the office, she still felt uneasy and headed to the design department, calling Wendy out specifically.
"Ms. Phillips, what's up?" Wendy asked, sensing the seriousness.
Evelyn took a moment and said, "Wendy, I wanna talk to you as a friend."
Wendy felt a bit nervous. "What's going on, Ms. Phillips?"
"Don't be nervous," Evelyn smiled. "If Caspian asks you out again, don't go. He's just a carefree guy who only knows how to have fun. I'm worried he'll lead you astray."
Wendy blinked, confused. "Ms. Phillips, why would Mr. Wade ask me out again? We're not even friends, and today's lunch was because you told him to."
"If he asks again, just don't go. He's bad news. Got it?" Evelyn insisted.
Wendy nodded. "Got it."
She figured Ms. Phillips was probably jealous of her having lunch with Mr. Wade and was hinting at it now.
"Alright, get back to work," Evelyn said, turning to leave. After talking to Wendy, she felt relieved and no longer responsible for the situation.
After work, Caspian's car was parked outside the studio, and he leaned casually against it.
"Mr. Wade, picking up Ms. Phillips again?" a few female colleagues teased as they walked out.
Caspian just smiled and waved at Wendy, who was trailing behind. "Wendy!"
"Wendy?" Caspian called out, catching her off guard.
"Mr. Wade?" Wendy was totally thrown off, not sure why he was calling her.
Caspian opened the car door and said, "I came to pick you up from work. Hop in."
Wendy just stood there, stunned. The female colleagues watching were equally shocked.
"Isn't he here for Ms. Phillips? Since when did Wendy start hanging with Mr. Wade?" they whispered.
Wendy said, "Mr. Wade, thanks, but I'll just take the subway home." She started to walk away.
But Caspian stepped forward, grabbed her arm, and smiled. "I came all this way, don't make me waste the trip. Get in."
Just then, Evelyn came out, saw them, didn't react, and walked to her car, driving off.
"Mr. Wade, please let go. I can get home on my own," Wendy said, a bit freaked out.
"It's no trouble. I got nothing else to do. Come on," Caspian said, pulling her into the car.
Wendy quickly said, "Let go!"
"Don't shout. Your colleagues are watching. Give me some pride," Caspian whispered.
While Wendy looked over, he quickly got in the car and drove away from the studio.
"What's going on? Did Wendy steal Ms. Phillips' fiancé?"
"This is wild!"
The female colleagues watched the car leave, totally astonished.
In the car, Wendy angrily said, "Mr. Wade, this is too much!"
"What did I do?" Caspian asked, amused.
Wendy, holding back her anger, said, "If you're having issues with Ms. Phillips, solve them. Why drag me into it?"
"Aren't you my girlfriend?" Caspian teased.
"Mr. Wade, please be serious. You just apologized to me over lunch, and now you're saying this!" Wendy said, exasperated.
Caspian raised an eyebrow. "Actually, after lunch, I think you're great. Why not be my girlfriend?"
"What did you say?" Wendy shouted. "Are you out of your mind?"
Caspian glanced at her, and Wendy immediately softened, "Sorry, I didn't expect you to say that. It scared me."
"I'm serious. My mind is clear," Caspian said. "Ms. Phillips and I aren't together, so don't worry. I'm single. She won't give you a hard time."
Wendy thought this was absurd. "Mr. Wade, I don't like you. I won't date you!"
"No problem, we can date first and fall in love later. Alexander and Lillian did the same," Caspian said nonchalantly.
Wendy was shocked by his words and sternly said, "Mr. Wade, enough! I won't date you. Don't say this again!"
She pointed ahead. "Please let me out here."
Caspian smiled, turned on the signal, and pulled over. Before she got out, he said, "Don't rush to reject me. Think it over. You won't lose out by dating me."
"Mr. Wade, do you know how despicable you're being? Pursuing a girl who doesn't like you is very disrespectful! I won't be your and Ms. Phillips' doormat. That's even more disrespectful to me!" Wendy said, slamming the car door and leaving.
