Chapter 324 Compensation for the Anderson Family
Finally, the Sinclair family managed to get through the day amidst the chaos.
Samantha was so furious that she ended up in the hospital. Justin and Linda, equally exasperated, moved out of the Sinclair Villa. Ethan, indifferent to Samantha's plight, took Beatrice to Aetherland for a restful vacation, simply waiting for Samantha to be discharged so they could return and finalize the divorce.
With Samantha in the hospital, Lillian naturally stayed by her side to take care of her. Alexander also called two experienced servants from home to help. Bernice was always busy with work and only visited briefly after her shift. Leah was playful and unable to care for others, so Samantha, annoyed by her, sent her away.
Samantha wasn't seriously hurt, just fainted from anger. The more she thought about it, the angrier she got, vowing to fight Beatrice to the end! Consequently, she had been in the hospital for over a week with no intention of leaving.
One morning, Lillian came to bring her breakfast. The night before, Samantha had said she wanted to eat a cake made by Kelly.
"Why are you so late today? Don't you know I am starving?" Samantha asked unhappily.
Lillian placed the lunchbox on the bedside table and said, "The traffic was terrible today. I'll leave earlier tomorrow." She opened the lunchbox, and the aroma of the cake wafted out.
Samantha asked, "Has Alexander gone to work?"
"Yes," Lillian said softly, "Alexander said he was going to handle the Anderson family matters today."
Samantha paused for a moment, then continued eating the cake, saying indifferently, "All they want is money. Give them the money, and they'll shut up!"
Lillian nodded faintly and didn't say anything. Judging by Samantha's demeanor, it seemed she felt no remorse.
Then remembering something, Lillian said, "Mom, Alexander said he's been swamped with work lately and doesn't have the time to keep running back and forth, so he won't be coming to the hospital for now. This morning, he asked me to tell you that divorce is bound to happen sooner or later, so there's no point in dodging it."
Hearing this, Samantha slammed the bowl on the table and angrily asked, "Did he say that?"
Lillian pursed her lips and continued, "Yes, Alexander said he understands your feelings. You know everything, but you just can't get over it. Still, you can't sweat the small stuff and let it blow up into a big deal. Things are pretty murky right now, and the real champ is the one who can hang in there until the end.
Samantha silently resumed eating, her expression softening a bit. "Alexander is right. I just can't get over it!"
Lillian lowered her eyes, not daring to advise Samantha rashly, fearing that any wrong word would lead to ridicule.
Samantha put down her fork and waved for Lillian to clean up, sitting there lost in thought.
In Alexander's office, Colin and Neil sat across from him.
"Mr. Sinclair, have you figured out how to resolve this by calling us here today?" Neil asked with a fawning smile.
"Why don't you tell me your thoughts first?" Alexander leaned back leisurely, looking at him with interest.
Neil took the folder beside him and handed it to Alexander, saying, "Mr. Sinclair, this is the result of our research."
Alexander slowly took it, reading through it with a mocking smile. After finishing, he closed the folder and said, "All the conditions can be agreed upon except for the marriage alliance with the Sinclair family."
Neil laughed and asked knowingly, "Why won't you agree, Mr. Sinclair? Clayton and Leah are quite fond of each other."
Alexander's eyes flashed with danger. "Neil, don't push it! Do you think that just because we've agreed to compensation, you can make any demand you wish? What do you take the Sinclair family for? I just want to keep this matter quiet, and you'd better not create any trouble for yourselves! If you upset me, I'll make sure you're erased from Rihegde!" He warned him with a sinister look and tone.
Neil was so intimidated by his aura that he shivered and quickly smiled, saying, "Mr. Sinclair, don't be angry. It was just a suggestion. It's okay if you don't agree." Even though the Sinclair family had messed up first, he hoped to use this mess to get the Anderson Group back on its feet. Moreover, crossing Alexander wasn't a good option.
Colin sat silently on the side. With Amy resurrected, Neil was now the victim, and he just listened to whatever Neil said.
Alexander said, "Now let me state my demands."
"You have demands?" Neil asked in surprise.
"This agreement between us is confidential, and I need not say, you both understand that." Alexander spoke slowly, "I hope this matter will never be brought up again, as if it never happened. Amy's life will continue as it was, unchanged from before."
He paused for a moment, then gazed deeply at Neil and said, "If you break this agreement, you'll spend the next few decades in prison. I've roughly calculated it—cooking the books, tax evasion, and even some kidnapping. All these offenses combined could easily land you a life sentence. So, keep this secret tight, for the sake of your family and yourself!"
Neil quickly nodded, saying, "Of course. Once Mr. Sinclair's sponsorship arrives and my company resumes operations, we will never mention this matter again." In his heart, Shae was far less important than the company!
Alexander looked at him with contempt and called Theodore in through the intercom, signing the agreement on the spot.
After everything was settled, Neil took the file bag and said to Alexander, "Mr. Sinclair, you are straightforward. It's my pleasure to cooperate with you." Then he said to Colin, "Colin, let's go."
Colin said indifferently, "You go ahead. I have something to discuss with Mr. Sinclair."
Theodore gestured for Neil to leave, and they exited the office.
Alexander asked, "Colin, you want to ask about Amy's condition, right?"
Colin's eyes suddenly reddened, and he nodded silently before asking, "Is Amy's condition really serious? Do you think what happened back then caused her illness?"
Indeed, it had a lot to do with what happened back then, and Samantha couldn't escape responsibility for that.
"On behalf of my mother, I apologize to you. Despite our denials over the years, we cannot escape the responsibility. It was our fault," Alexander admitted to Colin, feeling a deep sense of shame.
Colin loathed Samantha for making Amy's life miserable over the past few years. He also despised himself, knowing that his actions had given others the leverage to threaten Amy. Now that Amy had succumbed to mental illness, no one felt greater anguish or urgency than he did.
