Chapter 218 Lola's Complaint
After dinner, Lillian checked the time and told Alexander, "I want to visit Lola in the marketing department. It's been a while since I saw her."
Alexander suggested, "Why not take Shirley with you?"
"No need. I can go alone. It's hard to talk with Shirley around," Lillian replied casually.
She then teased with a smile, "Don't worry, honey. Shae won't bother me at the office."
Alexander, thinking he might be overreacting, said, "Alright, just come back soon."
"Okay," Lillian said, leaving the office with a playful smile.
Shirley and Kaitlyn were probably still out for lunch. Lillian took the elevator to the first floor and grabbed a latte for Lola from the coffee shop outside.
In the marketing department, some folks were still working through lunch, including Lola.
"Lola," Lillian called softly. "Have you had lunch?"
Lola, frustrated with work, looked up and snapped, "What are you doing here?"
"I came with Alexander," Lillian said, placing the coffee on the table. "Are you working overtime? Have you eaten?"
"You see I'm still working at lunchtime. When am I supposed to eat?" Lola grumbled, pounding the keyboard.
Lillian was used to her irritability. Since childhood, Lola had always reacted this way when stressed.
Not wanting to upset her, Lillian said, "Alright, you get busy. If you can't have lunch, at least grab some snacks. Don't starve yourself. I'll head back upstairs."
Lola felt like she was in hell since moving to the marketing department, with never-ending work and constant bullying. Senior colleagues picked on her, and even Shae gave her a hard time. She was swamped with tasks and had to fend off Shae's attacks, making her days chaotic.
"Wait!" Lola called out, then pulled Lillian outside.
At the door, they ran into Shae, who had just returned from lunch.
Both were momentarily stunned. Shae glared at them, blocking their path. Not wanting to argue, Lillian stepped aside to let her pass.
After walking past, Shae turned and gave them a sinister smile.
On the stairwells, Lillian asked, "What do you want to talk about?"
Lola bluntly said, "Lillian, can you ask Alexander to transfer me back to the executive office? The marketing department is too exhausting, and they bully new employees. I work overtime every night and don't get home until after ten."
Lillian replied, "Is it the workload, or is it your capability? Learn more, be nice, and get along with your seniors. They'll be more willing to help you."
"Why are you defending them?" Lola said angrily. "I have so much work every day, and you want me to please them? Easy for you to say!"
Lillian looked at her coldly and said, "No job is easy. Don't bite off more than you can chew. The marketing department is a good place to gain experience. Once you get through this period, things will get better. Alexander transferred you here for your good."
Lola retorted, "For my good? He knows I don't get along with Shae, yet he put us together. I'm bullied by her every day!"
Lola fumed. "Mom doesn't tell you because you're pregnant and she doesn't want you to worry. She keeps quiet and stops me from saying anything too. If you hadn't come today, I wouldn't have said a word."
Seeing her so upset, Lillian softened. "Lola, you're still in your probation period. It's good to get more experience. Don't give up at the first sign of trouble. Stick it out for two more months. If you really can't take it, I'll ask Alexander to transfer you back to the executive office. How about that?"
Lola shot her a look. "If you don't want to help, just say so. No need to delay. I don't need your help. Alexander is your husband now. When another woman takes him away, let's see how proud you are!"
"Do you mean Shae?" Lillian said sternly, "Lola if Alexander gets seduced by her, how does that help any of us? Your mom would be the first to break down!"
Lola stayed silent, not knowing how to respond.
Lillian had come with good intentions to check on her and have a brief chat, but she ended up getting upset by her words. If she had known, she wouldn't have come.
"I won't disturb your work anymore. Get back to it. Take your time with the work. I'll talk to Alexander about your issues with Shae." She started to leave but turned back to say, "Alright, don't be mad."
Lola stormed back to the office without even saying goodbye. Watching her go, Lillian thought about how she had also been bullied and overworked when she first started, and it made her feel a bit sad.
She took the elevator back upstairs. In the corner, Shae's face slowly emerged, holding a phone to her ear.
In the elevator, Lillian sent a Facebook message to Kevin, asking him to get a lunchbox for Lola and send it to the marketing department. Then, Alexander called.
"Are you still in the marketing department?" he asked.
Lillian glanced at the ascending numbers. "No, almost there. I'm in the elevator."
She ended the call just as the elevator doors opened. Stepping out, she took a few steps before suddenly slipping and nearly falling. Quickly grabbing the wall to steady herself, she noticed the uncleaned water on the floor.
She let out a sigh of relief, calmed herself, and slowly walked towards the executive office.
Shae's face appeared from behind a barrier, a smug smile on her lips. She turned around, holding her phone, and muttered to herself, "Just a small lesson for now. Just wait and see!"
Back in the office, Alexander immediately noticed something was off. "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
"No, I just slipped a bit when I got out of the elevator because of some water on the floor. But I didn't fall. I managed to catch myself," Lillian explained.
Alexander's expression turned serious. "What is the cleaning staff doing?"
Lillian remarked, "It's no big deal, probably just an accident. Don't blame the cleaning staff."
Alexander looked at her deeply and then reached out his hand. "Come here."
"What for?" Lillian asked, but obediently walked over and was pulled into his arms, sitting on his lap.
