Chapter 339 Reconciliation
Hearing this, Wendy was taken aback and said with a trembling voice, "No, I was brought here by Lillian. Ms. Phillips, what do you mean?"
Evelyn smirked, "Wendy, you must know something, so you brought me here on purpose, right?"
Wendy quickly waved her hand and denied, "Ms. Phillips, I had no idea about anything. Running into Mr. Dalton today was purely by chance."
Evelyn glanced at her skeptically. "Really?"
"Yes." Wendy nodded, firmly. "I don't know anything."
Evelyn pondered for a moment and said nothing.
They drove back to the studio, and not long after, Amos drove back as well and headed straight to Evelyn's office. "Evelyn!" he burst through the door, a layer of sweat glistening on his forehead. Rushing forward to embrace Evelyn, he exclaimed, "Darling, please let me explain. It's not what it looks like!"
Evelyn pushed him away with a cold face. "Get away from me!"
Amos said urgently, "Evelyn, that woman at the restaurant is just a client from the company; it's not what you think!"
"A client? Do you still want to lie to me? You did a great job, even helping a client wipe her mouth!" Evelyn said sarcastically.
Amos exclaimed helplessly, "Honey, you've got it wrong! I'm with you, why would I mess around with another woman?"
Evelyn, with a cold face, said angrily, "I don't believe you! You better disappear from my sight now!"
Amos stood in front of her, looking at her seriously, and suddenly swore, "Evelyn, I swear to you, I have never betrayed you. If I'm lying, may I go to hell!"
Evelyn looked at him in surprise and blurted out, "What are you doing? Why are you swearing?"
"I want to prove my sincerity!" Seeing Evelyn's face soften a bit because of his oath, Amos stepped forward, grabbing her hand excitedly. "Evelyn, I didn't cheat. I was just discussing business with that woman. You can go to the office and inquire with other colleagues. I truly haven't deceived you!"
Evelyn furrowed her brow and gazed at him with skepticism, standing there in silence, uncertain whether to believe his words. 'I have been with Amos for quite some time and feel I know him well. Mature, steady, hardworking, and ambitious—these are all qualities I like about him. He isn't the type to be unfaithful. In all this time, I don't notice anything unusual about him, let alone signs of infidelity.'
"Evelyn, we've been together for so long. Don't you know what kind of person I am?" Amos said with a pitiful face. "I'm devoted to you. You can't treat me like this; it hurts me!"
Evelyn glared at him and said angrily, "But I saw you wipe her mouth with my own eyes. I'm not blind or nearsighted; I couldn't have seen it wrong!"
Amos thought for a moment and explained, "That's not me wiping her mouth; her lipstick smudged while she was eating, and she didn't realize it. I was just pointing it out to her. It must have been the angle; you misunderstood! He then pulled Evelyn into his arms and said urgently, "Evelyn, please don't be mad. I love you. I can't live without you. When you're angry, my heart aches too!"
Evelyn, held in his arms, felt a bit moved and didn't know whether to forgive him. "Then tell me, why didn't you call me when you got back from your trip?"
Amos sighed, "I wanted to surprise you. I have already reserved a table at our favorite restaurant, planning to pick you up after work. But as soon as I got off the plane, my secretary called, saying the company we had been negotiating with finally responded. She was representing me in the talks and happened to arrange the meeting there."
"Why should I believe you?" Evelyn still didn't quite believe him.
Amos released her and took out his phone, showing her the restaurant reservation for the evening. He also had a record of ordering a large bouquet of roses from the florist. Finally, he pulled up his call log and said, "Look, this is a call from my secretary. I had just arrived at the restaurant shortly before you did."
Evelyn's eyes shifted. "Is everything you said true?"
"Everything is true!" Amos said firmly, showing no signs of panic or guilt.
Evelyn pouted and said playfully, "If you come back next time without informing me and have a meal alone with a woman, and I find out, I will never forgive you!"
"There won't happen next time!" Amos smiled and hugged her again, saying emotionally, "Evelyn, thank you for believing in me!"
"You're my boyfriend, so of course, I believe you. I think you wouldn't deceive me, right?" Evelyn asked pointedly, giving his waist a warning twist.
Amos winced in pain and quickly said, "I won't deceive you!"
Evelyn finally showed a hint of a smile, stepped out of his embrace, and asked, "How was the business trip this time? Did you manage to close the deal?"
"Looks like this trip might be a wasted effort." Amos took a moment, sank into the chair opposite the desk, and sighed with a hint of disappointment. "We're up against Elmrest's top company, and being an out-of-town firm, we're probably not their first choice. But it was still a great opportunity to gain some valuable insights, right?"
Evelyn sat down and nodded in agreement. "Yes, just consider it as gaining experience." "What about the company of that woman earlier? Is there a chance for cooperation?" she asked.
Amos said, "She's got a fiery temper; if things don't align just right, it's tough to move forward. Today we only discussed some general directions, and it was going well. But then, you showed up out of the blue, and she seemed a bit ticked off. Who knows? If it doesn't work out, so be it. She's not the only fish in the sea."
Evelyn felt a bit guilty and said, "It's my fault. I'm sorry. Maybe I should go explain to her tomorrow."
"No need. Messing up one deal is no big deal," Amos comforted her. "I'll handle work matters. What you need to do now is cool off and erase everything you saw today from your memory. We're still good."
Evelyn said, "I'll bring it up often to keep you on your toes!"
