Chapter 39 The Arrogant Sinclair Sisters

In anticipation of the New Year, Alexander, along with Lillian and Lucas, returned to the Sinclair old mansion.

Today, Lillian was dressed impeccably, with light makeup, looking very elegant. She was extremely nervous inside because she knew how strict Samantha was. According to Kelly, Alexander also had an elder sister and a younger sister, as well as a half-brother from the same father. With such a large family, she didn't dare to hope they all would like her; she just wished they wouldn't cause any trouble.

"Lillian, grandma's house has this super huge sunroom where you can play in the sand. I'll take you there later," Lucas promised joyfully, clutching the back of the passenger seat.

Lillian looked back at him and murmured, "We'll see about that later."

Lucas then asked, "Lillian, why didn't you come upstairs last night? I woke up to go to the bathroom and didn't see you."

"I got caught up studying in my room last night and totally forgot," she explained.

"Don't forget tonight, okay?"

Suddenly remembering something, Lillian pulled out a beautifully wrapped small gift box from her bag and handed it to him, saying, "This is for you."

"Wow!" Lucas shouted in delight. "What is it, Lillian?"

"Just open it and you'll see," Lillian said, unable to help smiling at his excitement.

Lucas quickly opened the gift box to find a cartoon pin of a video game character.

"Wow, this is awesome!" he exclaimed, holding the pin in his hand, thrilled.

Sitting in the back seat, Alexander cast an eye at him, a look of disdain on his face.

Lillian explained, "It's a pin, and it flashes when you shake it."

"Put it on me, quick!" Lucas urged her.

"Lucas, didn't I give you a pin before? That robotic one, all shiny silver. Why weren't you this excited then?" Alexander asked with a hint of jealousy.

"You don't understand, Alexander," Lucas replied, turning to him. "I really like playing this game, and the character Lillian gave me is the most powerful one in the game. I love it!"

Alexander snorted inwardly, thinking, 'Lucas is so captivated by such a cheap trinket.'

Lillian affixed a pin to Lucas's collar and then straightened out his clothes. "How do you feel?"

"Awesome!" Lucas struck a pose just like the pin. "Lillian, do you think I look handsome?"

"Um, especially handsome!" Lillian complimented.

Alexander grabbed Lucas's collar and said in a stern voice, "Sit up straight!"

Lillian corrected her posture, and then from her bag, she took out a small gift box and placed it on the dashboard in front of Kevin. "Mr. Martin, this is for you."

"For me?" Kevin asked in surprise. He hadn't expected Lillian to give him a gift as well. He glanced at Alexander through the rearview mirror and saw him resting his eyes.

"Thank you for taking care of everything," Lillian said. "It's nothing expensive, you should not mind."

Kevin scratched his forehead uneasily, "Thank you, Ms. Hill."

He noticed Lillian was not reaching for any more gifts from her bag, coughed lightly, and gave her a look.

Lillian looked at him curiously, then understood the meaning behind his gaze.

She thought, 'Alexander does nothing but make me work and scolds me all day. Should I really give him a gift? Am I foolish?'

She shook her head slightly and mouthed, "No."

Kevin felt a bit embarrassed about the gift, which made him quite uncomfortable.

Alexander, with his arms folded and eyes narrowed, witnessed the exchange between the two, a smirk of disdain on his lips.

When the car reached the Sinclair family's yard, Lillian got out, holding Lucas's hand, and followed Alexander into the mansion.

"Alexander, you're back!" On hearing the servant's report, his sister Daisy Sinclair shouted toward the entrance.

Alexander came in, smiling faintly, "The moment I step in, I hear your shrill voice."

"Lucas, did you miss me?" Daisy looked at Lucas running toward her, laughing as she asked.

"Of course." Lucas proudly showed off to Daisy, "Daisy, do you like my pin?"

However, Daisy's attention was not on the pin but shifted toward Lillian, who was following behind Alexander. Her gaze was unmistakably scornful.

"Alexander, who is she?" she asked.

"This is Lillian," Alexander said without further introduction, speaking indifferently.

"Oh, so it's you," Daisy said dismissively, curling her lip and turning away to amuse Lucas.

Lillian glanced at Daisy, thinking to herself, 'She's about my age but so arrogant. They must really be siblings, cut from the same cloth.' Lillian had no desire to engage in conversation with Daisy and quietly took a seat next to Alexander.

"Where are Mom and Dad?" Alexander inquired.

Daisy nodded toward the staircase. "They're upstairs in the study, talking with our sister," she whispered.

"What's wrong with her?"

"Word is she's getting a divorce," Daisy told him in a hushed tone.

"I'm going to check on them," Alexander declared, rising to ascend the stairs.

The housekeeper poured Lillian a cup of coffee and handed Lucas a glass of juice.

Daisy asked disdainfully, "Lillian, you're about the same age as my brother, aren't you? I can see fine lines at the corners of your eyes. Don't you do any skincare?"

"I'm 25, and while I don't indulge in skincare routines, I certainly haven't noticed any fine lines around my eyes," Lillian stated with a direct gaze.

"You might want to take a closer look in the mirror," Daisy retorted, her voice laced with spite. "And since you're married to my brother, why are you still dressed so poorly? Are those clothes from some online clearance sale, worth maybe 300 bucks? You might not mind, but that doesn't mean my brother won't."

Lillian's expression darkened at Daisy's words. She glared at her, furious at the Sinclair family's lack of respect.

"Ms. Daisy Sinclair, please make sure you know the facts before you judge me," Lillian countered firmly. "Things aren't always as simple as they appear."

"Are you lecturing me? What gives you the right?" Daisy stood up angrily. She had been spoiled from childhood, treated like a little princess, and had never been spoken to in such a manner.

"Daisy." Someone approached and called out her name with displeasure.

"Bernice, you're here," Daisy said, emboldened by the arrival of her sister. Crossing her arms, she added sarcastically, "Alexander brought this woman home, and she's just too arrogant. Right after meeting me, she criticized me, acting all high and mighty."

"Enough, there's no need to lower yourself by arguing with such people," Bernice Sinclair admonished her sister.

Lillian looked at Bernice. In her early thirties, Bernice bore a resemblance to Daisy but carried even more pride. Lillian withdrew her gaze and looked down, deciding not to acknowledge the haughty sisters any longer.
