Chapter 371 Living Together
Caspian thought for a moment and said, "Wendy, you need bed rest. I'm afraid it's not appropriate for a man like me to take care of you. Besides, I don't know how to take care of you."
"You don't need to do much. Just keep me company," Wendy said shyly, looking down and nervously picking at a muffin. She had no other choice but to ask Caspian for help. She didn't have many friends, and apart from Lillian and Angela, she couldn't bring herself to ask other acquaintances to take care of her.
Of course, she had her ulterior motives. If Caspian could stay with her, two single people living together, getting to know each other better, maybe he would see her good qualities and change his mind.
She wondered how she could just let go when she was in love with someone. She wasn't willing to give up and naturally wanted to fight for it!
"Wendy, I'm a man, and I don't mind anything," Caspian hesitated and said, "But you still have to live in that neighborhood. I'm afraid it might bring you a bad reputation."
"You're overthinking it. Who knows their neighbors nowadays? You don't need to worry about that," Wendy continued. "Also, I'm not picky about food. You can make anything. During the day, you can go about your business, and just come back to keep me company at night. You know I'm afraid of the dark."
Caspian looked at her with reluctance in his eyes.
Wendy felt uneasy under his gaze and didn't dare to look him in the eye. She turned her head slightly and said, "Don't you like Molly? I can bring her from home to keep you company. How about that?"
Caspian laughed and teased, "In your current state, won't you give yourself away when you get home?"
"That's none of your concern. I have my ways."
Seeing him smile, Wendy eagerly asked, "Caspian, you smiled. Does that mean you agree?"
"You even used Molly to tempt me. How could I not agree?" Caspian chuckled and said, "Alright, I'll stay with you until you recover. I hope you get better soon."
"Caspian, thank you!" Wendy smiled sweetly, looking cute and playful.
Caspian blinked and suddenly realized that Wendy was indeed quite adorable.
After breakfast, Caspian called a doctor to check on Wendy. She had two stitches on her forehead, a mild concussion, and a sprained ankle that required bed rest. She had also been traumatized by the violent scene last night and needed psychological counseling. Caspian noted the doctor's advice and then took Wendy home.
Caspian carried Wendy into the elevator and didn't put her down until they were home.
He placed her on the bed and, seeing her blush, teased, "Why is your face so red? What were you thinking when I was carrying you? Were you fantasizing about me kissing you?"
"You're so annoying!" Wendy said, embarrassed and gritting her teeth, as she grabbed a pillow and threw it at him.
Caspian dodged swiftly and left the room.
Wendy sat on the bed, holding her flushed cheeks, reminiscing about the feeling of being in his arms. It was indescribable, but it felt very happy!
She knew he was just taking care of her, but her heart raced and her mind kept wandering.
Wendy leaned to the side and lay down on the bed. If her foot wasn't injured, she would probably be kicking it back and forth.
Caspian called his housekeeper to bring his luggage and had the cleaning staff come to tidy up the house again. The guest room was also thoroughly cleaned, leaving no trace of Kimberly's stay.
"Mr. Wade, have you been here recently?" the housekeeper asked. "Do you need the chef to come over?"
Caspian remembered the doctor's advice that Wendy had just been traumatized and shouldn't be around strangers. She needed to be comforted.
He waved his hand and said, "No need. You can all go back."
After the housekeeper left, Caspian noticed it was already noon and time for lunch. He went to knock on Wendy's door, but there was no response.
"Wendy, I'm coming in," Caspian said softly, slowly pushing the door open.
Wendy was curled up, asleep. She didn't sleep well and was making faint moaning sounds as if struggling in her sleep.
Caspian adjusted her position, covered her with a blanket, and seeing her frowning in pain, he couldn't help but gently touch her head and whisper in her ear, "Wendy, don't be afraid. Sleep well. I'm right here with you."
His voice was soft and soothing, almost like it was wrapping around her. Wendy seemed to sense it and soon stopped moaning, her frown gradually relaxing, and her face becoming peaceful.
Caspian gently patted her to comfort her.
Wendy felt like she was in a deep abyss, unable to escape. Just as she was getting anxious, a light suddenly shone in, giving her hope and dispelling her fear. The abyss bloomed with purple flowers, and a breeze blew as if someone was whispering to her. It all made her feel at ease.
Wendy was awakened by the drool. She heard breathing sounds near her ear. When she opened her eyes, she saw Molly's face close to hers, looking at her happily.
"Molly!" Wendy hugged her, "I missed you so much!"
Caspian sat nearby and asked, "Did you ask the pet store to pick up Molly from your house? That's a good idea."
"I told my parents Molly needed a vaccination, so they wouldn't suspect anything. Then I said I brought her here, and they couldn't say anything."
Wendy laughed as Molly licked her, and she curiously asked Caspian, "Why are you in my room?"
"I was afraid you'd have nightmares, so I stayed by your side to wake you if needed. But it turned out fine. You only had a bit of trouble at first, but then you slept soundly."
"I see. Thank you."
She didn't expect him to notice such details.
Caspian said, "I noticed there's not much food in the fridge, so I made some spaghetti for dinner. Want to eat now?"
"When did you make it? If it's been sitting for too long, won't it affect the taste?" Wendy quickly said, "Let's eat now."
Caspian brought her a plate of spaghetti and placed it on the table by the bed.
"Not bad. You were modest about your cooking skills, but this looks great," Wendy praised him. "Join me for a meal."
"I have to go out later. You eat by yourself. Just leave the table at the foot of the bed when you're done. I'll clean up when I get back. If you try to do it yourself, don't be mad if I scold you!"
After saying that, Caspian waved at Molly, "Come on, it's time for you to eat too."
