Chapter 96 Return to the Executive Office

After a good night's sleep, Lillian woke up early the next day. The alarm had just started to buzz when she instinctively turned it off.

Beside her, Alexander was also awake. He watched her tiptoe toward the door like a thief, finding her actions both amusing and endearing.

"Today, you're going back to the Executive Office." Alexander suddenly said in a low voice.

Lillian, with her hand on the doorknob, was slightly startled by his sudden words. She turned back, a bit confused, and asked softly, "Am I going back to the Executive Office today? I don't need to go to the Marketing Department?"

Alexander got out of bed, gave her a blank look, and walked toward the bathroom without saying another word.

Lillian pouted and left the room. She wondered why he had transferred her back. 'She actually liked working in the Marketing Department. It was relaxing that she was doing secretarial work without any office politics.' But now, thinking about being transferred back, she felt a bit annoyed.

After breakfast, Lillian left the house. It was February, and the cold wind was still biting. She hadn't been to work for almost a month and felt a bit unaccustomed to leaving so early.

At the company, she first reported to the Marketing Department. The director had already received the news, so it was just a formality. Lillian gathered her things and went back upstairs.

Taylor saw her return and calmly said, "I've kept your workstation for you."

Returning to her long-lost workstation, Lillian felt a sense of nostalgia.

Colleagues who saw her return greeted her warmly. Shirley, the last to arrive, was surprised and happy to see her. "Are you back?"

"Yes, I was suddenly transferred back." Lillian replied smilingly. "We can fight side by side again."

"I still remember you owe me a meal." Shirley said.

"I haven't forgotten."

Taylor, standing in front, said discontentedly, "What are you doing? This is the office. If you want to chat, do it at home!"

"Taylor, it's not work time yet." Shirley retorted, looking at her watch. "There are still thirty seconds."

Taylor frowned and asked, "Shirley, what do you mean? Are you timing me by the second?"

"Of course, I have to be precise. You're misunderstanding us for chatting during work hours!" Shirley said with a meaningful smile.

Lillian nudged her, signaling her to stop.

Just then, the thirty seconds were up. Taylor said, "Precisely eight o'clock, time for the meeting!"

The daily morning meeting was routine. Lillian returned to her familiar position, doing the same tasks as before. After the meeting, she and Shirley went to the printing room.

"Why did you provoke her? Just listen to her. What if she deliberately makes things difficult for you?" Lillian said while working.

Shirley, binding the printed materials, said nonchalantly, "I just can't stand her acting like a leader. If she's so great, why isn't she Alexander's personal assistant? She's still just a senior assistant, not an executive assistant!"

Lillian chuckled, "No matter what, don't provoke her."

"Treat me to Spicy Chicken Bites for lunch. A new place opened on Gourmet Fusion Street, and it's really good. I've been there three or four times with colleagues." Shirley said, changing the subject.

"Sure, let's go," Lillian agreed cheerfully.

After a busy morning, Lillian and Shirley went to Gourmet Fusion Street for some Spicy Chicken Bites. The food was delicious, spicy, and numbing. They enjoyed it a lot.

Back at the office in the afternoon, Lillian's stomach started acting up. She had to run to the restroom three or four times. She knew eating too much spicy food would have this effect. She felt slightly better by the end of the day.

"Lillian, have you finished organizing the materials I sent you today?" Taylor asked before leaving.

Lillian, feeling weak, said, "Sorry, I haven't finished yet. I'll give it to you tomorrow morning."

"It's needed tomorrow morning. Do you plan to give it to me then?" Taylor said unhappily. "Stay late and finish it, then send it to my email."

"Is it really needed tomorrow morning? I didn't see it listed in tomorrow's meeting agenda. It doesn't seem urgent." Lillian said.

"What do you know? Meetings can change anytime. We must be prepared!" Taylor said sternly.

"Okay, I understand. I'll send it to your email tonight."

Shirley wanted to stay and help, but she got a call and had to leave for an urgent matter. "Lillian, I have to go. I can't help you tonight."

"It's okay. It's not a big task. I'll finish it soon. You go ahead." Lillian said nonchalantly.

As soon as work hours ended, the office emptied quickly. Lillian enjoyed the quiet and worked more efficiently. Her stomach growled, so she took a bread roll from her drawer, took a few bites, and felt thirsty. She went to the coffee room.

She made herself a hot cup of coffee and returned to find Alexander standing at her workstation, looking at her computer.

"Are you done for the day?" Lillian put her coffee on the table and said, "I'll be late coming home. Tell Lucas I'm working overtime."

Alexander looked at the computer and asked, "Is this what you're working on tonight?"

"Yes, Taylor said it needs to be sent to her email tonight for tomorrow's meeting." Lillian said, sitting down to continue working.

Alexander laughed mockingly, "The company pays you to do this useless work? What a waste of time and resources!"

"What do you mean?" Lillian asked, looking up at him blankly.

"Shut down the computer and go home." Alexander said impatiently.

"Isn't that inappropriate? How will I explain to Taylor tomorrow?" Lillian asked.

"Then let Taylor pay your salary!" Alexander said, exasperated by her compliance. He gave her a stern look and walked out.

Lillian thought for a moment, quickly shut down her computer, grabbed her bag, and ran to catch up with him. They entered the elevator together.

Kevin saw them coming out together and was surprised.

Lillian sat in the front passenger seat and greeted Kevin, "Kevin, long time no see."

"Lillian, it's been a long time." Kevin replied with a smile.

"Are you from this city?" Lillian asked, making small talk.

Lillian asked, and Kevin answered each time, not daring to say much. Occasionally, he glanced at Alexander in the rearview mirror. Regarding the incident at the manor last time, Lillian obviously forgot. But he didn't forget. The punishment Alexander had given him still made him shudder.
