Chapter 317 The Aggrieved Alexander

Emily's expression faltered, and she bit her lip awkwardly, speaking to Oscar with a hint of distress, "Why did you say that? I meant well."

Oscar also felt that his words were a bit harsh and apologized to her, "I didn't mean it that way. The surgery is coming up, and I'm just a bit worried."

"Don't worry, I believe the surgery will be successful," Emily said as she took off a necklace from her neck and tried to put it on Oscar. She added, "I got this from a witch; it's supposed to bring good luck. Wear it during the surgery, and you'll be fine."

Oscar leaned back. "No need. I won't wear it."

But Emily insisted and forced it on him, saying, "Don't take it off!"

Lillian was nearby, silently eating snacks, but her eyes kept glancing at them.

"Emily, it's getting late. I'll have Melvin take you home," Lillian said to her. It was already past eight in the evening. Just as she finished speaking, Michael called Emily, urging her to come home, his displeased voice coming through the phone.

"I'm heading back now. Don't touch my stuff in my room; I'll tidy it up myself when I get back." Emily hung up the phone and said to Oscar, "Take these next couple of days to get yourself in the right mindset. I'll be waiting for you after the surgery next week!"

"Lillian, I'll be leaving now. Sorry for the trouble," Emily politely said to Lillian.

Lillian called Melvin to take Emily home and then somewhat reproachfully said to Oscar, "It wasn't nice to talk to Emily like that; it made her feel awkward."

"I did apologize," Oscar said as he took off the necklace and examined it closely. It featured a platinum skull with a pair of yellow diamonds embedded in its eye sockets.

"Pretty cool," Oscar said softly as he looked at the necklace, but he had no intention of putting it back on. Holding it in his hand, he said to Lillian, "I'm heading upstairs."

"Good night," Lillian responded indifferently, looking down at her phone.

Tonight, Alexander had a social event and had just sent her a voice message on Facebook, vaguely saying, "Honey, it'll be a while before I'm done here. You go ahead and sleep."

Hearing this, Lillian was quite upset. Alexander hadn't been in good health recently, and the doctor had advised him to quit or at least cut down on drinking, but he seemed to be ignoring that advice completely!

"Honey, perhaps you shouldn't come back tonight. From the way you sound, it seems you've had quite a bit to drink. It would be best not to endure the hassle of traveling back and forth. Just find a nearby hotel to stay the night, and head to work directly in the morning." Lillian sent him a voice message, her tone displeased.

Alexander, still busy with his social event, didn't get a chance to listen to the message until much later. Hearing Lillian's "concerned" words, he couldn't help but break out in a sweat; she was very angry!

"Kevin, let's wrap this up as soon as possible!" Alexander whispered in Kevin's ear.

Meanwhile, Lillian went to the children's room, played with them for a while, fed them, and put them to sleep. Returning to her room, she glanced at her phone but saw no reply. She let out a cold laugh. "No reply. Alexander, you are great!" She took her change of clothes and went to the bathroom. After washing up, she got into bed.

Her postpartum days were rather relaxed; she didn't need to nurse or take care of the baby, leaving her with plenty of time during the day to pursue her interests. The comic series on the forum has been updated recently, and the number of followers had increased significantly. Every day, the forum buzzed with lively discussions about her and Alexander's love story.

Suddenly, with a sound of notification, someone had sent her a private message on the forum: [Hello, Princess Seven. I am a devoted fan of yours and an editor at a manga magazine. I am very interested in your work. May I inquire if you would be interested in a collaboration?]

Upon reading the message, Lillian felt quite pleased; after all, having her manga recognized by a magazine was a form of validation. She didn't hesitate and began a conversation with the editor. If her work could indeed be featured in a magazine or on a manga app, it would certainly be a noteworthy achievement.

Although Lillian was happy, she was still cautious while chatting with the editor, fearing the person might be a scammer. Just as she was getting into the conversation, she heard the sound of the door opening downstairs. Shortly after, Alexander came in.

His face was flushed from drinking, and he was trying hard to walk straight. With a smile in his eyes, he looked at Lillian and approached her with a fawning grin, saying, “Honey, I’m back.”

"I told you not to come back. Didn't you get my message?" Lillian dodged his embrace, moving aside to keep her distance.

Alexander pretended to take his phone out of his suit pocket, clicked a few times, and exclaimed, "Honey, don't be mad. I didn't hear your message." He then played the voice message, listening to it with a serious expression.

Lillian watched him coldly, thinking, 'Listening to it again in front of me—are you afraid that I might think you hadn't listened to it the first time?'

"You're so considerate, honey," Alexander said as he took off his suit jacket and threw it on the sofa at the foot of the bed. Then he lay back, resting his head on Lillian's legs.

"Go take a shower, or you'll fall asleep," Lillian said calmly, pulling her legs out from under him.

Alexander, with his drunken eyes, looked at her and asked, feeling very wronged, "Honey, what's wrong?"

"Nothing, just go do what you need to do," she said, focusing her attention back on her tablet.

Alexander scooted closer to her, resting his head on her shoulder. "Honey, you're mad because I drank, right? Today's social engagement was quite important; I couldn't turn it down, even though I didn't want to."

"I understand and I'm not mad," Lillian said with a smile, lowering her shoulder to move his head away.

Alexander watched her with a sense of dejection. She claimed she wasn't angry and continued to smile, yet he knew things were not as they seemed. Her polite demeanor and reluctance to let him touch her indicated she was upset. Feeling resigned, he rose, gathered his clothes, and walked despondently into the bathroom.

Hearing the water running, Lillian lost interest in discussing her comic. She arranged another time to meet the editor, exchanged contact information, and logged off quickly.

From the bathroom came the sound of Alexander vomiting, making her feel sorry for him despite her anger.

Lillian, still upset, couldn't help but open the bathroom door as Alexander was leaning over the toilet. Seeing her come in, he quickly waved her away, "Go out; it smells!"
