Chapter 399 Looking out for Each Other

Alexander looked at Lillian's gloating smile and playfully tapped her nose. "Did you think I didn't prepare anything for you?"

"What did you prepare?" Lillian asked excitedly.

Alexander smiled smugly, took a small jewelry box out of his suit pocket, and handed it to her. "Open it and see."

Lillian's eyes lit up as she took it and asked with a smile, "What kind of jewelry did you get me this time?"

A platinum bracelet with diamonds and two red gemstones in the middle, sparkling brightly.

"It's beautiful!" Lillian said as she took it out. "Help me put it on."

After putting it on, she raised her slender wrist and gently shook it, just like him. "We are in sync. I gave you a watch, and you gave me a bracelet."

"Looking out for each other," Alexander said seriously.

"Looking out for each other!" Lillian said happily, standing on tiptoe to kiss his cheek.

That night's charity business event had gathered all the businesspeople from Rihegde. And luxury cars were already parked in front of the venue.

Alexander's car was parked in a reserved VIP spot. Lillian looked at the people entering in a steady stream and muttered to herself, "I don't really like these social events. I feel so out of place."

"Evelyn will be here today. Leah and Ethan are also coming. You can chat with them."

"Why are Leah and Ethan coming?" Lillian asked, puzzled. "Is Ethan introducing her to a boyfriend?"

"Don't worry about it," Alexander said. "Let's get out of the car."

Lillian, in a long dress and a jacket, looked very eye-catching. She lightly held Alexander's arm and walked inside.

As they entered the hall, it instantly felt as warm as spring. Many people were already there, holding wine glasses and chatting. Alexander walked in with Lillian, exuding an impressive aura that immediately drew everyone's attention.

"Mr. Sinclair is here!"

"I heard Alexander is already married. Is this his wife?"

"Today, I must seize the opportunity to chat with Mr. Sinclair."

Facing everyone's gaze, Lillian felt nervous and tried to maintain a smile, but her hand tightly gripped his arm.

"It's okay, I'm here with you," Alexander whispered in her ear. "Relax, someone is recording, and it's being live-streamed online."

"What?" Lillian responded. "Why is it being live-streamed? Is anyone watching?"

"Alexander, you're late," the business association president, Landon, laughed as he walked over and greeted him warmly.

"Mr. Perry," Alexander said. "Long time no see. How have you been?"

"Same as always!" Landon laughed and patted his shoulder. "You're a busy man. Even having a meal with you requires an appointment. I was just telling your father that it's been over a year since we last met."

Alexander nodded slightly and introduced, "Mr. Perry, let me introduce you to my wife, Lillian."

"Lily, this is the president of the business association, Mr. Perry."

Lillian smiled politely and said, "Hello, Mr. Perry."

"Hello!" Landon replied with a smile. "Alexander, you're still the same as when you were a kid, doing things quietly. Even getting married is like this!"

"When are you planning to have the wedding?" he asked.

"We're tentatively planning for September. Mr. Perry, you must come and celebrate with us."

"Of course!"

As soon as he finished speaking, a coquettish voice suddenly called out, "Alexander!"

The three of them turned to look. The girl who called out was petite and had bright eyes and white teeth.

She lifted her skirt and hurried over, immediately hitting Alexander. "How dare you come?"

"Cynthia Perry!" Landon said displeased. "Come here and be polite!"

But Cynthia ignored her father, crossed her arms, and looked up at Alexander. "Do you remember what you promised me?"

Alexander frowned and asked coldly, "What did I promise you?"

"I knew you would forget!" Cynthia pretended to hit him again.

Alexander dodged without a word.

Lillian, unable to stand it any longer, grabbed Cynthia's arm in mid-air and angrily said, "You better not hit him again and see what happens!"

"Who are you?" Cynthia glared at her and then looked at Alexander with a sneer. "Just a dance partner for Alexander, and you're acting all high and mighty!"

"Cynthia!" Landon frowned and pulled his daughter aside, scolding, "This is Alexander's wife. Stop causing trouble! Go play somewhere else!"

"Alexander! You're married?!" Cynthia was shocked, her loud voice drawing the attention of those around them.

Landon felt very embarrassed by his daughter and signaled to the security guards nearby. They came over and took her away.

"Alexander, I'm sorry. Cynthia is spoiled by me."

"It's okay, Mr. Perry."

"I'll go check on things over there," Landon said and left.

Lillian glanced at Alexander and teased, "So, when did you meet this little princess?"

"There's nothing between us," Alexander was at a loss, knowing she would misunderstand.

"She even hit you, so the relationship must be special," Lillian said jealously.

"Mr. Sinclair!" Suddenly, someone came over with a wine glass to greet him, interrupting their conversation.

In front of others, Lillian still played nice for Alexander, instantly putting on a smile and accompanying him to socialize.

After socializing with a few people, Lillian felt a bit tired and went to rest by the buffet table.

As soon as she sat down, she saw Leah walking over and quickly waved with a smile.

"Leah!" she asked with a smile. "I didn't see you at all. There are so many people today."

Leah sighed wearily. "Don't mention it. Dad has been dragging me around to meet guests. I'm exhausted and annoyed."

"Is Dad trying to find you a suitable match?" Lillian asked with a laugh.

Leah said, "That's part of it. In previous years, Mom or Beatrice would accompany him to these events. But this year, Mom is upset, and Beatrice is pregnant, so Dad had to bring me."

"Do you like anyone?"

"Lillian, you know who I like, don't you?" Leah asked, resting her chin in her hands. "Lillian, I haven't seen Kevin since before the New Year. Did he spend the New Year with you guys?"

"Yeah, we spent it together," Lillian teased. "What do you want to know? I'll tell you everything."

"I want to know everything!" Leah said excitedly, then looked dejected. "Forget it. Knowing so much is useless. He doesn't like me."
