Chapter 106 Working Overtime with Her
After Kaitlyn's warning, she returned and threw a stack of files at Lillian, saying, "Organize these before you leave and send them to my email."
"Okay," Sniffling, Lillian muttered.
Kaitlyn glanced at her and tossed a box of tissues over, saying, "Wipe your tears, get your emotions in check, and don't let it affect your work."
"Okay." Lillian pulled out a tissue, wiped her tears, and continued working.
Shirley sent her a message on Facebook, concerned.
Shirley: [Lillian, are you okay?]
Lillian: [I'm fine, don't worry about me.] Lillian replied after more than half an hour when she finally had a chance to check her phone.
Shirley knew she was busy and didn't send any more messages to disturb her.
Before she knew it, it was time to clock out. But Lillian's files were still not organized, she was still busy at her computer. All her colleagues had left, while she was the only one remaining in the office.
Suddenly, Alexander came out of his office and immediately noticed her working overtime.
"How much more do you have to finish?" he asked, standing in front of her desk.
Lillian stared at her computer, her fingers typing rapidly on the keyboard. She didn't want to talk to him and ignored him for a while.
"Do you throw a tantrum?" Alexander asked, displeased.
"I wouldn't dare," Lillian said stubbornly, seriously adding, "I just hope you handle your personal matters better in the future and don't involve innocent people."
Alexander laughed, "You feel wronged and now you want to teach me how to handle things?"
"What else?" Lillian angrily slammed her keyboard and said, "Why does she get to humiliate me repeatedly? Just because I'm with you? Why do I have to be so unlucky to be targeted by her? How do my colleagues see me now? How am I supposed to stay in the company? I don't want to be the subject of everyone's gossip!"
After venting, she felt a bit better. Looking at Alexander, who stood there quietly watching her with furrowed brows, she felt a bit more at ease.
"Are you happy now that you've shouted?" Alexander sneered, "Lillian, you need to understand. First of all, live for yourself. You don't need to care about what people say behind your back. Everyone gets talked about. Secondly, you're my wife, and you will inevitably face these things. So what should you do? Cry in grievance like today? Or fight back with your strong presence? When you become strong enough, no one will dare to treat you like this!"
"Then why can't you, being so strong, solve these problems?" Lillian asked angrily.
"Some people are just crazy, just psychos. Can I control them?" Alexander laughed, "Of course, crazy people should be in a mental hospital, and psychos should see a doctor. They can't be allowed to harm others."
"So, was I wrong today? It's my fault for not being strong enough?" Lillian suddenly said.
"Are you trying to provoke me?" Alexander tapped her head and changed the subject, "Anyway, today's matter was mishandled by me, causing you to feel wronged. It won't happen again."
"You finally said something a normal person would say," Lillian said, seeing his apology, she wasn't as angry anymore.
Alexander, however, asked seriously, "Lillian, what did you say? Say it again!"
"I didn't say anything," she wisely shut her mouth.
Alexander said, "How much work do you have left? I'll wait for you, and we can leave together as compensation."
"There's still some left, about an hour," Lillian said, "Why don't you go home first? If we go home late together, Lucas will be unhappy again."
"Stop talking nonsense and get to work." Alexander sat in Kaitlyn's chair, took out his tablet, and waited for her.
Lillian looked at her computer but was a bit distracted. After his analysis of today's unpleasant incident, she seemed less angry. Seeing him waiting for her to finish work, she felt like their distance had somehow gotten closer. It was quite magical.
Seeing her distracted, Alexander tapped the table and said, "What are you daydreaming about? If you don't finish in an hour, I'll dock your pay."
This threat worked, and Lillian immediately focused and started working seriously.
In the large office, only the sound of keyboard typing could be heard. Alexander put down his tablet and watched Lillian working intently, her eyes focused, lips slightly pursed, completely absorbed.
His gaze shifted to the computer, noticing several grammatical errors in the English sections of the document.
"Idiot, you used the wrong grammar," Alexander couldn't help but point out.
"Where?" Lillian stared at the computer, "I don't think so."
She didn't even notice how Alexander addressed her.
Alexander moved his chair next to her, pointed to a specific spot in the English text, and said, "Here, look closely, the grammar is wrong."
"Really? I used it wrong? How should it be used?" Lillian asked humbly.
Alexander took a deep breath, gave her a helpless look, and started explaining.
"So, it should be used like this. Got it?" Alexander tapped her head with a pen, "I called you an idiot, and you still don't admit it."
Lillian rubbed her head and muttered, "If I'm an idiot, then what are you?"
"What did Kaitlyn assign you to study today?" he asked.
Lillian said, "She told me to memorize a hundred business terms, plus the twenty I didn't memorize yesterday."
Alexander thought for a moment and said, "Starting tomorrow, I'll tutor you in English. Your level can't be improved by just memorizing words."
He added helplessly, "Leo got someone to get you into the company, but he didn't expect you to be assigned to the executive office."
Lillian was stunned. 'So, her job was arranged by Leo?'
"Alright, stop thinking about it. Hurry up. You have twenty minutes left," Alexander urged as he saw her spacing out.
Soon, Lillian finished organizing the files.
She asked him, "Do you want to check the English parts again?"
"I'll check them tomorrow. Knowing you organized them, I'm at ease."
They took the elevator to the parking garage and went home together.
Lucas saw them coming home late again. He wasn't angry instead of smiling, asking, "Lillian, Alexander, did you go on a date?"
"What nonsense." Lillian found it amusing and went to her room.
She changed her clothes and went to the kitchen to eat. Kelly sat across from her, chatting with her.
"Why are you home so late again today?"
Lillian took a sip of soup, "I was working overtime."
"Did Alexander stay with you while you worked overtime?" Kelly asked smilingly.
Lillian put down her spoon, saying helplessly, "You seem so happy, but it's not what you think."
