Chapter 263 Wendy and Caspian Spend a Night Together

"I'm leaving. How could I see you in such a sorry state?" Caspian teased her. "You're usually so bold, but now, are you afraid of the dark?"

Wendy awkwardly replied, "Am I not allowed to be afraid of the dark?"

Caspian chuckled lightly.

A resident upstairs poked his head out from the balcony and looked down, asking Wendy, "Do you know what's going on? Why did the power go out all of a sudden?"

"Curtis, I have no idea either," Wendy said, looking up.

Curtis James, a man in his sixties and a former school janitor, had a humorous way of speaking.

"Wendy, is this your boyfriend?" Curtis asked excitedly.

Wendy waved her hand and said, "No. He is a friend. Don't jump to conclusions!"

"Don't worry, and I'll keep your secret. I won't tell your dad," Curtis said with a smile.

He then turned to Caspian and said, "You better treat Wendy well. She's simple-minded, so don't bully her."

Caspian didn't respond. He simply looked up and laughed leisurely.

Wendy got anxious and said, "Curtis, Stop jumping to conclusions! Besides, why am I simple-minded?"

Curtis chuckled and replied, "I've watched you grow up. I know you better than anyone."

Feeling embarrassed by his words, Wendy wanted to rush back inside, but the darkness behind the door made her hesitate. She was in her pajamas and couldn't stand outside forever. She gritted her teeth, grabbed Caspian, and went inside.

Wendy's home was on the first floor, a three-bedroom apartment. As soon as she opened the door, an unidentified object rushed out of the room, startling the unprepared Caspian.

"It's my dog," Wendy said, squatting down to hold the dog in her arms. Apologetically, she said, "Sorry, Molly. I didn't mean to leave you behind. I was too scared and ran off. Were you scared?"

Caspian, with his hands in his pockets, lazily watched her talk to the dog and asked slowly, "Are you planning to stand at the door forever?"

Wendy put Molly down and said, "Come in first."

In the dark, Wendy led him to the sofa, where they sat side by side.

"Aren't you going to get me a glass of water?" Caspian asked.

"I'm too scared to go to the kitchen unless you come with me," Wendy said confidently.

Caspian mocked her, "You're so timid, yet dare you to live alone?"

"If the power wasn't out and the lights were on, I wouldn't be scared," she retorted.

Molly jumped onto the sofa, snuggling next to Wendy. They sat quietly with the dog, with only the light from their phones.

After a while, Wendy looked at her phone and exclaimed, "The property management says the power won't be back for another three hours."

She glanced at the time on her phone. It was already 9:30 PM. She then looked at Caspian next to her, wondering, 'If I had to let him stay with me until the middle of the night.'

Caspian, holding his phone in one hand, patted his thigh with the other and said, "Well, now that you know when the power will be back, you can relax. Be safe, and I'll be on my way."

Seeing him about to leave, Wendy hurriedly grabbed him and said anxiously, "Are you leaving already?"

"Why do I stay? We're two single young people alone in a room. You wouldn't feel safe, right? Lock the door, find some leftover birthday candles for light, and hold Molly. The power will be back soon," Caspian advised.

Wendy looked at the dark room, tightly clutching his arm, and pleaded, "Can you stay with me a bit longer? I don't have any candles."

Caspian turned to look at her and asked, "Aren't you afraid of me here?"

Wendy hesitated, then gritted her teeth and said, "I'm not afraid! You're not a bad person, and you're Alexander's friend. There's no reason for you to harm me."

She pleaded again, "Mr. Wade, please stay with me a bit longer. I'm really scared of the dark."

"Alright then." Caspian nodded. "Since you're begging me, I'll stay a bit longer."

Hearing this, Wendy was happy and said, "Let's go to the kitchen. I'll get you a Coke."

Caspian snickered and followed her to the kitchen.

Wendy didn't know when the power came back. She only knew that when she opened her eyes, it was already daylight outside. She was in her parents' room with Molly curled up in the corner of the bed.

She sat up, rubbed her head, and called out tentatively, "Caspian? Caspian?"

However, no one answered.

She sighed in relief and muttered to herself, "When did he leave last night? How did I fall asleep?"

Looking at the time on her phone, Wendy let out a terrified scream, "I'm late!" She quickly got out of bed and ran barefoot to the bathroom.

When she opened the bathroom door, she saw Caspian sitting on the toilet, playing with his phone, his butt and thighs partially exposed. The scene was too shocking.

Wendy screamed in terror again, covered her eyes with her hands, and shouted, "What are you doing?"

"Using the toilet," Caspian said matter-of-factly. "Could you please step out?"

Wendy closed the door and angrily asked through it, "Why didn't you leave? I thought you were gone!"

"The power didn't come back last night. You didn't allow me to leave, and I was afraid you'd be scared when you woke up, so I stayed."

Wendy asked, "How did I fall asleep?"

Caspian replied, "You fell asleep on the sofa. I called you, but you didn't wake up."

Wendy rolled her eyes and asked, "Then, why didn't you answer when I called you just now?"

He replied, "I didn't hear you, okay?"

"It's fine," Wendy said, no longer disturbing him, and went back to the living room to wait.

Soon, Caspian came out and asked, "What's for breakfast?"

In a hurry, Wendy said, "I'm late for work. There's no time for breakfast."

She rushed into the bathroom, almost gagging from the smell, but holding her breath to wash up quickly. She changed into her clothes, put on light makeup, grabbed her bag, and went to the door to change her shoes.

Caspian was pouring dog food for Molly by the living room window. Seeing her, he asked, "Are you leaving already?"

"Hurry up!" Wendy urged impatiently.
