Chapter 142 Alexander Takes Lillian to the Hospital for a Check-up

Sunday morning, Lillian awakened after nine. She was stunned as she usually woke up around eight.

After washing up, she went to the kitchen, where Kelly was making soup. Seeing Lillian come in, Kelly smiled and asked, "Did you sleep well last night?"

Lillian yawned, sat down at the dining table, and said, "Morning, Kelly."

Kelly brought her some food and said, "I'm making soup. It will be ready soon. Have some later."

"Okay," Lillian replied nonchalantly, eating slowly.

Sitting opposite, Kelly watched her. Kelly was confident Lillian was pregnant. The elder often noted changes in pregnant ladies. Kelly smiled and thought, 'How oblivious Lillian is not even to understand she is pregnant!'

After Lillian ate, Kelly brought her soup. Lillian sipped it slowly, and Kelly replied, "Alexander will take you out in a bit."

"Where are we going?" Lillian asked curiously.

"Hey, I think you should go to the hospital for a checkup. You haven't been looking well lately, and I'm concerned. It's better to get yourself checked out," Kelly suggested.

"I'm not sick. I'm fine. Don't trouble Alexander," Lillian said, not wanting to bother Alexander or go to the hospital.

"Getting checked is fine. You had an upset stomach yesterday," Kelly persuaded.

Just then, Alexander walked in. Seeing her drinking soup, he asked, "How long until we can leave?"

Lillian glanced at him and said, "I'm done. Do I really have to go to the hospital? I'm feeling fine."
"Kelly is concerned about you. Don't disappoint her," Alexander said gently. "Change your clothes. I'll wait for you. There's no rush."

Lillian looked at him in astonishment. He was acting so strange today. He wasn't angry at her resistance and was speaking to her gently. It was really odd!

Lillian obeyed and left the kitchen. Alexander examined her face, body, and back. He didn't notice anything remarkable save her pale skin.

"Kelly, are you sure she's pregnant?" Alexander puzzled.

Kelly smiled confidently and said, "I'm sure. Just wait for the good news."

Alexander raised an eyebrow and smiled.

Alexander drove Lillian to the hospital. He had planned to obtain a checkup at the best hospital as soon as they arrived.

Lillian didn't understand why she was hospitalized for a checkup when she felt well. Alexander might have cared about her but was too bashful to say so, so Kelly did. She passionately speculated but then disregarded it. 'He wouldn't. How is it possible?' She laughed at her idea.

As Alexander drove, he felt a bit anxious yet joyful.

He glanced at Lillian and asked with a smile, "Why aren't you talking? What are you thinking about?"

Lillian looked at him and said, "I was wondering why you're being so gentle with me today."

"Is that a bad thing?" Alexander asked leisurely.

"I'm unaccustomed," Lillian said indifferently yet happily inwardly.

Alexander directed her to the obstetrics and gynecology department upon arrival at the hospital. Lillian kept asking him why he brought her here.
Since they had already made an appointment, a doctor was waiting for them. Seeing Alexander come in, the doctor quickly led them into a consultation room.

Lillian sat down uneasily, answering whatever the doctor asked.

"When was your last menstrual period?" the doctor asked.

"My periods have always been irregular. I think I missed it last month," Lillian replied.

The doctor wrote it down and said, "Have a test first."

Lillian took the form and, seeing the words on it, asked in surprise, "A pregnancy test? Doctor, you must be mistaken."

Alexander led her out of the consultation room, saying, "Don't be surprised. Once the test is done, we'll know if you're pregnant."

Lillian thought for a moment and asked, "So, you brought me here today for a pregnancy test? It must be Kelly’s idea."

"Kelly spotted a problem and requested me to bring you. We can't take any chances with a possible pregnancy. Go get the tests done," Alexander said.

"This is impossible!" Lillian said, sweating and fanning herself with the form. She looked around and whispered, "After we made love last time, I took a morning-after pill!"

Alexander looked at her seriously. "So, if you took the pill and still got pregnant, how did that happen?"

"Are you doubting me?" Lillian glared at him angrily. "Do you think I have someone else outside?"

Alexander said, "That's not what I mean. Don't glare at me. Let's wait for the test result first."

"That is exactly what you mean!" Lillian glared at him again and walked away.
Lillian took the form. Two hours later, she came to the consultation room with the report, and she seemed shocked.

The doctor reviewed the result and smiled. "You're pregnant, five weeks along."

"What?" Lillian said, "I took emergency contraception."

"Emergency contraception has a twenty percent failure rate," the doctor explained, "And it shouldn't be taken too often."

Lillian stared blankly at Alexander and whispered, "I'm really pregnant."

Alexander felt mixed emotions. Shock and incredible joy followed. He was also planning ahead, as this child entirely changed his plans.

"You need to eat more protein and vegetables and take vitamins," the doctor advised. "Come back for a prenatal checkup when you're three months along."

"What tests are involved in the prenatal checkup?" Lillian asked.

The doctor smiled. "Based on your situation, the hospital doctor will order tests. Relax, it's good for the baby."

Alexander thanked the doctor and led Lillian out.

Back in the car, neither of them spoke. Both were lost in their thoughts.

After a while, Lillian's stomach growled, breaking the silence.

"Let's eat something first. We can talk after we eat," Alexander said, starting the car and slowly driving out of the parking garage.

"What do you want to eat?" he asked.

Lillian had been craving spicy food for the past few days, thinking it was because her period was coming. She hadn't expected it was because she was pregnant!

"Anything Mexican will do. I want something spicy," Lillian replied.

"Won't eating spicy food be bad for the baby?" Alexander asked, a bit worried.
