Chapter 306 Why Did You Marry Me?
After dinner, Alexander took Lillian for a walk around the neighborhood. Whenever they encountered enthusiastic neighbors they knew, they would always be asked, "Had the baby yet? Boy or girl?"
Lillian said, "Honey, let's go to the supermarket. I checked the kitchen this afternoon, and there's not much left in the fridge."
"Or is it that there's nothing you like to eat?" Alexander said with a smile. "Let's go, but instead of driving, let's call a cab."
They waited for about seven or eight minutes in the neighborhood before the cab arrived and headed straight to the supermarket.
"Honey, I heard from Wendy that this supermarket is owned by Caspian's family?" Lillian asked as she pushed the shopping cart.
Alexander nodded and said, "Yes, his family mainly runs chain supermarkets and hotels."
"Why doesn't he help out with the family business then?"
"He doesn't want to," Alexander said briefly.
Lillian responded with a sound and didn't ask further.
As they chatted, they tossed items they wanted into the cart. Before long, it was half full.
In the fresh produce section, Lillian turned to Alexander and said, "Honey, crabs are on sale. Can you pick a few? I don't know how to choose. I'll pick two fish here." With that, she took a fishing net and started selecting fish in the tank.
Suddenly, a fish was thrown into the tank, splashing water all over her face. She looked angrily and saw Amy standing opposite her, looking at her provocatively.
Lillian glared at her and said irritably, "People are standing here. Didn't you see? Can't you be more careful when putting the fish in?"
With an innocent expression, Amy replied, "I didn't do it on purpose. Why are you so fierce?"
"Am I being fierce, or are you provoking me?" Lillian retorted, rolling her eyes and deciding not to engage further. She tossed the fishing net aside and walked away.
Amy walked over and blocked her path, asking, "Can't argue, so you just go to leave? When are you going to return what you took from me?"
"Who took your stuff? Stop slandering me!"
"You've been holding onto someone else's boyfriend, enjoying being the mistress, haven't you?" Amy's reckless accusations drew the attention of passersby.
"Are you crazy? Alexander is my husband. We are legally married! Your boyfriend? That was in the past!" Lillian said, suppressing her anger, "Please, stop spreading nonsense!"
Amy's eyes were filled with intense hatred as she stared at Lillian, her cold gaze sending a chill down Lillian's spine.
"Lillian, are you proud that Alexander is your husband? Do you honestly think he loves you? If it weren't for the company shares and the family inheritance, would he have married you? He was just using you."
Amy sneered, "But you're lucky, you got pregnant, helped him get the shares, and he kept you around for now. But mark my words, it won't be long before his mother finds someone with the right status and family background to replace you and become your child's stepmother!"
Lillian frowned deeply, pretending to be calm, and asked indifferently, "So what? Are you saying he doesn't love me and I should let go?"
"Are you angry?" Amy's sinister smile was terrifying, "Being angry is useless. That's the truth. If you don't believe me, ask him, and you'll know."
She nodded towards Lillian's back, "He's here."
Alexander didn't expect to run into Amy at the supermarket. After placing the crabs into the cart, he noticed Lillian's upset expression and asked gently, "Have you picked the fish?"
"I don't want it anymore, let's go." Lillian tightly gripped the cart handle and then smiled at him, "Honey, I want some beef. Let's go buy some meat."
The change was sudden, but Alexander remained calm. "Do you want some chicken wings too?"
The two walked away together. Alexander didn't even glance at Amy, let alone speak to her. She was filled with hatred, tears streaming down her face as she stood there sobbing.
In the bustling supermarket, her behavior was very conspicuous. Even a crying child would attract attention, let alone an adult.
Jared, who was in the fruit section, vaguely noticed something was wrong with Amy and hurried over.
Seeing her tear-streaked face, he asked in surprise, "What happened? Why are you crying?"
He pulled out a tissue and gently wiped her tears.
Amy, feeling deeply wronged, threw herself into his arms and cried loudly, "He ignores me now. He doesn't want me anymore!"
"Who? Alexander? You saw him?" Jared asked softly, leading her to a quiet corner and gently patting her back.
"Yes, and that bitch who took Alexander from me. I will never forgive her!" Amy said through gritted teeth, her eyes red. After speaking, she pulled a pill bottle from her bag, poured two pills into her palm, and was about to swallow them.
Jared grabbed her wrist, saw the white pills, and asked sternly, "What are these pills? Didn't you say you wouldn't take them anymore?"
"Leave me alone!" Amy shouted, breaking free and swallowing the pills.
Jared looked at her with concern, "Amy, you know taking too many of those pills is harmful to your brain."
"My brain is already messed up, I'm not afraid of taking more!" Amy panted, clearly still angry.
Jared observed her. From his experience, she seemed abnormal, showing signs of a relapse, and it felt more severe than before.
"Amy, have you had a follow-up check since you came back?" he asked.
Amy said, "No, I feel fine."
"How about I take you to the hospital for a check-up tomorrow? What do you think?"
"No way! I don't want to go to the hospital again!" Amy shouted angrily and turned to leave.
Jared was deeply worried. Delaying treatment would make it more complicated. He had to persuade her to get a check-up.
Meanwhile, Lillian and Alexander finished checking out and left the supermarket. Kevin's car was waiting at the entrance. Coincidentally, after finishing his business, Kevin had reported to Alexander, and knowing Kevin was nearby, Alexander had called him over.
In the car, Lillian was deep in thought. Amy's words had made her uncomfortable. But after thinking it over, she felt it didn't matter. They had no feelings for each other initially, and she was there to make amends. Why should she care about the reason he married her? Now, she was upset because she had fallen in love with Alexander.
"What are you thinking about? You've been silent and frowning since earlier. Did Amy say something to you again?" Alexander asked, puzzled.
Lillian nodded and asked, "Honey, I've never understood why you suddenly married me back then. Was it really to have me get pregnant and help you fight for shares and inheritance?"
