Chapter 328 The Lively Dining Table
Lillian added, "Moreover, do you truly understand Caspian's character? I'm not suggesting that Caspian is a bad person, but can you accept his lifestyle and social circle?"
"Considering we can't even be together, isn't it a bit premature to think about acceptance?" Wendy said self-deprecatingly, curling up on the sofa with a look of disappointment.
Angela exchanged a glance with Lillian and said understandingly, "Wendy, while Lillian and I don't wish for the two of you to be together, who can truly control whom they love? If you genuinely love him, are you truly prepared for everything that comes with it? Will you be able to accept everything about him, including the fact that he has loved Evelyn for ten years?"
"Winning a man's heart isn't hard; just cater to his tastes, and in time, he'll naturally accept you. Wendy, your situation is different from Lillian's. Lillian married Alexander passively, and their love was genuine and forthright. However, Caspian hasn't forgotten Evelyn and may never do so. Can you accept that? Growing up in a loving family, can you bear such a sacrifice? A few days might be fine, but with time, your heart will grow uneasy, and conflicts will emerge." Angela added.
Lillian agreed, "Yes, Angela is right. Wendy, you're so wonderful; you should find someone who truly loves you, not someone like him."
Wendy listened silently, not saying a word. She admitted they were right and understood the reasoning. But honestly, who could follow through with it?
"Wendy, Lillian, and I won't say much more. Matters of the heart are personal, and it's up to you to decide. Whether you choose to keep liking him or move on to someone else, know that Lillian and I will always have your back and support you every step of the way!" Angela said and patted Wendy's shoulder.
Wendy was profoundly touched. She had anticipated that disclosing her inner secrets would invite mockery and dissent from the two, but they assisted her in analyzing the situation and provided encouragement, which was beyond her expectations. In the end, she realized she had been petty and didn't understand her friends as well as she thought.
"Angela, Lillian, thank you so much. I'm touched," Wendy said, wiping her tears. "For a moment, I felt like men are useless, and it's best to have fun with friends." Her words made Lillian and Angela burst into laughter.
After sharing her thoughts, Wendy felt much better. She collected herself and started playing around with them again.
After finishing their card game, Alexander and the others found the women in the entertainment room playing Texas Hold'em, having a great time.
Tom, who had arrived later, sat next to Evelyn and said, "Evelyn, you're going to lose this hand! Look at your cards; they seem pretty average."
Caspian naturally sat next to Wendy, frowning slightly as he watched with her. "Why are you so bad at this?" he asked.
"None of your business!" Wendy retorted, elbowing him to make him move away and turning her body to the side.
"I heard from Lillian that Mr. Wade is the best at cards," Angela chimed in, "Could you please come over and help me?"
Caspian replied, "Sure, no problem," and sat next to Angela.
Wendy glanced over, trying to remain composed, but she felt quite upset inside.
Lillian looked up and saw Alexander standing across the room, not coming over. She couldn't help but ask, "Aren't you coming to take a look?"
Alexander smiled and shook his head. "I know how bad your card skills are." His comment made everyone burst into laughter. But he wasn't wrong; Lillian was indeed terrible at playing cards.
Evelyn glanced at Tom beside her and asked curiously, "Where's Amos? Why didn't he come with you?"
"I saw him on the porch making a phone call earlier," Tom said while focusing on his cards and casually throwing a few down.
Evelyn pondered for a moment, wondering, 'Lately, Amos has been getting a lot of calls. Is it something wrong with his company or something personal?'
Melvin came over to ask Alexander, "Mr. Sinclair, dinner is ready. Can we start now?"
"Go ahead," Alexander instructed.
Leaving the entertainment room, the group headed to the dining room.
Seeing Amos sitting alone in the living room, Evelyn quickly walked over to ask, "Where have you been just now? I haven't seen you."
"My assistant kept calling me. Sorry about that." Amos said.
"Calling on the weekend? Is something wrong at the company?" Evelyn asked with concern.
Amos smiled and said, "No, everything's fine."
In the dining room, dinner was lavish, and the drinks were plentiful. Everyone was prepared to drink freely since they were all staying the night. No one held back once they started eating. The men drank and chatted happily, while the women ate, chatted, and sipped on a few glasses of wine.
Lillian was happy to see Ainsley with Lucas but also felt a bit jealous. Feeling her gaze, Ainsley looked up, and they exchanged a knowing smile.
"I noticed that every time Ainsley visits, she's just here to see Lucas and doesn't interact with us much," Wendy said, sitting next to Lillian and also smiling friendly at Ainsley.
"Perhaps she just prefers a quieter environment," Lillian said. "unlike us, who, when together, can be as noisy as can be."
Angela and Evelyn clinked their glasses and drank without a hint of hesitation.
"Dr. Turner, why don't you have a boyfriend? With your qualities, you must have many admirers," Evelyn asked with a tipsy smile.
Angela, still clear-headed, lit a cigarette and said slowly, "What's the point of getting a boyfriend? Looking to speed up my demise?"
Evelyn laughed heartily. She disagreed with Angela, saying, "There are still good men out there."
Angela sarcastically glanced at her and asked, "Like Amos?"
Evelyn was pouring drinks for them and nodded repeatedly. "Amos is one of them."
Angela rolled her eyes, blew out two smoke rings, and suddenly lost interest in chatting with this love-struck fool.
Wendy sat there, but her mind was on Caspian. His leg injury hadn't healed, and he shouldn't be drinking, but he was downing one glass after another as if he'd never had alcohol before. She was a bit annoyed at his disregard for his health and took out her phone to send Caspian a message on Facebook: [You should drink less; your leg injury hasn't healed yet.]
