Chapter 419 Taking Mom and Dad Out for Fun
Wendy looked at him speechlessly and sighed, "Tom, can you stop being so boring? If you keep this up, I'm leaving!"
"Alright, I won't say anything more. Let's eat." Seeing her annoyed expression, Tom quickly tried to appease her.
After that, they chatted about other things and finished their meal.
As they left the restaurant, Wendy said, "Thanks for the meal. I'm heading out now. Drive safely on your way back."
"Get in the car. Do you think I'd let you go home alone? If Caspian finds out, he'll scold me!" Tom pulled her and pushed her into the car.
"What does taking me home have to do with him?" Wendy said to Tom, "There's nothing between Caspian and me. Don't make things up."
Tom laughed, "Just because there's nothing now doesn't mean there won't be in the future. I think you and Caspian make a good match."
Wendy sneered, "I think you and I make a good match too. We know each other well; you're rich and a bit silly, and I'm pure and kind. Being with you, I wouldn't worry about being deceived. Why don't we date each other, and you can stop worrying about finding me a boyfriend?"
Tom was startled by her serious tone and quickly said, "No, I'm not thinking about dating right now."
"Do you still like Angela? She already has a boyfriend. Give it up." Wendy took the initiative and started questioning him.
Tom said bitterly, "I know, it's not suitable, so I've given up."
Wendy teased him, "Look at us, two heartbroken people in the same situation. We should comfort each other."
"Wendy, please stop teasing me." Tom heard the jest in her words and laughed, "I won't mention you and Caspian again, okay?"
Wendy didn't say anything.
When they arrived at her apartment complex, Tom took a small gift box from the back seat and handed it to her, saying, "I bought this for you when I was out. Consider it my apology."
Wendy hesitated and didn't take it.
"Take it. I bought gifts for Lillian and Angela too."
Hearing this, Wendy accepted it gladly, "Thanks."
Tom glanced at the dark complex and said, "Let me walk you to your door. It looks pretty chaotic in there."
Wendy said, "No need, I'm not scared. You go ahead, drive safely."
Tom watched Wendy enter the complex before driving away. On the way, he called Caspian.
"Dinner's done, gift's given, and she's safely home. Mission accomplished," Tom reported.
Caspian responded with a grunt, "Alexander and I are at the bar. Come over."
"Alright, I'll be there soon." Tom stepped on the gas and sped off.
When Wendy got home, she saw her parents arguing heatedly in the living room.
"Dad, Mom, what are you arguing about?" Wendy sat down, picked up Molly, and asked curiously.
Patrick, his face a bit red from the argument, said to her, "Aurora's daughter from Atlanta is getting married at the end of the month. Your mom and I were discussing going a few days early to have a good time in Atlanta. We thought it would be nice to take you along for a little trip. But your mom insists on going after the wedding, so we started arguing."
Wendy was surprised and asked, "Aurora's daughter? Which one? Seraphina Allen?"
"Yeah, Seraphina," Jessica said irritably, "She's two years younger than you and had to get married because she's pregnant."
"I see." Wendy scratched her eyebrow and said, "Mom, I've been busy at work lately. I don't think I can attend the wedding. How about you take a gift for me?"
Jessica, still angry from the argument, was further annoyed by Wendy's request. She slapped the sofa and vented her frustration on Wendy, shouting, "Work, all you know is work! You don't attend friends' weddings, and now you won't attend a family one either. Are you trying to embarrass me?"
"Mom, I quit a really good job before and haven't found a boyfriend. Wouldn't that embarrass you more if I went?" Wendy said understandingly.
Jessica, with a stern expression, said, "You know you've done these outrageous things? Do you think I want you to go? It's your dad who insists on taking you!"
Wendy turned to Patrick and said, "Dad, can I not go?"
Patrick said, "Wendy, I see you've been under a lot of work pressure lately and wanted to take you out for a break. Besides, your mom and I always end up arguing when we go out alone, which ruins the trip. If you come along, it might be better."
"But Dad, I'm busy at work right now. I'm afraid I can't get time off," Wendy said, feeling a bit troubled.
Patrick suggested, "Talk to your boss nicely. You know, we don't know our way around when we travel, and your mom and I aren't very good with our phones. If you come with us, it would save us a lot of trouble."
Feeling guilty, Wendy thought about how she had never taken her parents on a trip since she started working. After a moment, she said, "Alright, I'll ask my boss tomorrow, but I can't guarantee I'll get the time off."
Jessica, watching them, tapped her fingers on the table and said, "Back to the point, I say we go after the wedding. Raise your hand if you agree."
Wendy looked at her dad, and Patrick looked at his daughter. Neither moved, showing their disagreement through their actions.
"Mom, Dad, and I think we should go first, then come back right after the wedding," Wendy said.
Jessica glared at them, pointed her finger at them in frustration, and said, "Fine, we'll do it your way. You never listen to me!"
She then got up and walked towards her room. Wendy turned and called, "Mom, where are you going? Is the meeting over?"
"Meeting adjourned!" Jessica slammed the door in anger.
Patrick said, "Your mom has been in a bad mood lately. Taking her out more might help."
He then spoke earnestly to Wendy, "Wendy, you too. Don't bottle up the pressures of work and life. You need to release them to stay happy. If there's anything you can't talk to us about, talk to Lillian and the others. Don't keep it all inside."
"Dad, I know. Don't worry about me." Wendy leaned her head on her father's shoulder and said softly.
The next day at work, Wendy nervously asked Evelyn for time off. Evelyn, understanding and reasonable, granted it immediately, making Wendy feel both embarrassed and touched.
After that, she made all the travel arrangements at home, booked flights, reserved hotels, and completed all the preparations. On the weekend, they took a morning flight and went on their trip.
