Chapter 320 Returning to Sinclair Villa
Lillian privately called Michael, explained the situation and asked him to call Emily back, saying they appreciated her kindness.
Unexpectedly, Michael also sounded quite helpless on the phone, saying, "I'm currently on a business trip abroad and can't come back anytime soon. If Emily is willing to take care of your brother, I have no objections. Besides, even if I did, Emily wouldn't listen. Moreover, I feel reassured knowing that Emily is with you."
Since Michael had no objections, Lillian decided to let Emily be. Every time she saw Emily trying her best to cheer Oscar up and meticulously tended to his daily needs. Her transformation was truly remarkable for someone who had grown up pampered. As a result, Lillian's opinion of her significantly improved, and her previous prejudices gradually faded away.
In the blink of an eye, another two weeks had passed, and by late September, Oscar was discharged from the hospital. His recovery had been remarkable, with no complications, and he could return home with peace of mind.
The night before Oscar was discharged, the caregiver treated Emily to ice cream. Over the past half month, they had become good friends. With this farewell, it was uncertain when they would meet again.
"Emily, you..." The caregiver bit into her ice cream, looked at the sleeping Oscar on the bed, and sighed helplessly.
"If you have something to say, just say it," Emily asked, puzzled. "What's wrong with me?"
"You don't understand men at all!" the caregiver said bluntly. "Is it truly wise to pursue someone with such humility?"
"I don't want to be humble either," Emily replied softly, feeling wronged.
"When it comes to pursuing a man, precision, swiftness, and boldness are key. Look at you, taking so long and still not having won him over despite constant close contact. In my opinion, either he's not interested in you, or he prefers men." the caregiver said.
Emily slightly opened her mouth and whispered, "He doesn't seem like he's gay."
"It's the last night, and you all take the chance to speculate about me while I'm asleep—is that cool?" Oscar asked with his eyes closed.
Emily was startled and quickly asked, "You're awake?"
The caregiver, being very sly, left the trouble to Emily, saying, "I'm going out for a smoke to calm down," and left.
Emily felt a bit awkward and sat there silently eating her ice cream.
Oscar moved a bit as if activating Emily's body switch, making her obediently walk over.
"Don't listen to his nonsense. He's just bored and joking with you," Oscar said after drinking some water.
Emily sat there, her eyes showing a hint of resentment, and asked, "How much of our conversation did you hear?"
Oscar paused, his face a bit uneasy, and tried to cover his embarrassment with a slight cough before saying, "When I woke up, I caught the last two sentences, and I couldn't help but speak up."
"So you didn't hear the earlier part?" she asked.
"I was asleep, so how could I hear?" Oscar said guiltily, feeling a vague sense of unease.
Emily recalled the caregiver's words, each sentence echoing in her ears. "Do you like men?" she asked, tilting her head and looking at him mischievously.
"I told you, don't listen to his nonsense!" Oscar immediately replied.
"Then do you like me?" Emily asked. After asking, she was surprised herself. She had always thought that confessing or asking would be extremely difficult, but she didn't expect to ask so easily.
Oscar was quite taken aback as well, looking at Emily, unsure of how to turn her down. He opened his mouth, but no words came out.
His hesitation was like a bucket of cold water on Emily's fiery enthusiasm. "Alright, I know what you mean," she said with a strong, forced smile.
"Emily, you've changed a lot for the better," Oscar said carefully. "In my heart, you're now my good friend."
"Oscar, you don't need to say these things to comfort me," Emily said with a bitter smile. "It's normal that you don't like me. I just wanted to know the answer."
Oscar felt very sorry but didn't know how to comfort her. Fortunately, at that moment, Lillian and Alexander arrived.
"Are you chatting?" Lillian said, holding up a box of fried chicken to Emily with a smile. "Didn't you say you wanted fried chicken yesterday? I bought some on my way here. Come and eat it while it's hot."
Emily took a deep breath, forced her tears back, turned around, and gave Lillian a bright smile. Trying to act relaxed, she skipped over and said playfully, "Lillian, you're getting nicer to me."
" You're also good to Oscar." Lillian didn't notice anything unusual about her; she simply looked down and took out the fried chicken, saying, "Oscar is being discharged tomorrow. You've worked hard during this time. Go home and have a good rest. I've been quite busy lately, but once things settle down, I'll thank you properly."
"No need. Oscar and I are friends, and I'm doing this voluntarily. You don't need to do anything special for me," Emily said, putting on plastic gloves and picking up a fried chicken wing to eat.
Lillian sensed something was off and glanced at Oscar, who was chatting with Alexander and not looking their way. She thought for a moment but decided not to ask, chatting with Emily about other things.
The next day, Oscar was joyfully discharged from the hospital. The post-surgery feeling was remarkably different; as he breathed in the fresh air, he felt a profound clarity in his chest.
As they were back home, Kelly was so excited that she cried, sitting by the bed, looking at Oscar from all angles, and asking questions repeatedly.
"Kelly, Oscar just needs to rest now. Ensure he has proper nutrition, focusing on a light diet. You should discuss the menu thoroughly with the chef," Lillian said, smiling at Kelly.
Kelly quickly agreed. "Okay, I'll go downstairs now."
Lillian sat by the bed, looking at Oscar with joy and pride, and said with a sigh of relief, "From now on, you'll have a smooth life!"
"Thank you!" Oscar said, opening his arms to Lillian, expressing his heartfelt gratitude.
Time flew by, and it was October 1st. That day, Alexander took Lillian and their kids back to Sinclair Villa, while Justin and Linda also returned to Sinclair Villa to gather with them.
While the family was enjoying their time together, the butler came to Linda and reported, "Mrs. Linda Sinclair, the Anderson family has arrived and is waiting outside."
