Chapter 326 The Call with Patrick

"Evelyn, come over here!" Lillian called out to her with a smile.

Evelyn let go of Amos's arm and ran towards her. Wendy discreetly glanced at Caspian over there and then saw Amos also joining them.

"Why are you always so late?" Lillian playfully scolded her, "It's been a while since we last saw each other. Why have you lost so much weight?"

"Work's been hectic." Evelyn instinctively touched her face and said, "With Amos's company just starting up, there are tons of things that need to be done. I'm trying to help out as much as I can. I'm earning one paycheck but dealing with double the stress. It's no wonder I'm losing weight."

Angela asked, "Do you have shares in his company?"

"No," Evelyn replied. "Honestly, I haven't been much help; sometimes all I do is give lip service."

Angela glanced at Amos and kindly reminded Evelyn, "Everything has its limits. It's your boyfriend's company, so let him manage it on his own merits. If you do too much, there will be rumors."

"Dr. Turner, thank you for the reminder," Evelyn said politely.

Angela only spoke up because Lillian was her friend; otherwise, she wouldn't have bothered with such affairs. She had a keen eye for people—take Amos, for example; his shifty gaze was a dead giveaway that he wasn't trustworthy. Evelyn might have had some business acumen, but her taste in boyfriends was seriously lacking.

Wendy naturally picked up on Angela's implication and glanced at her, thinking, 'Angela doesn't know anything and could see the problem. Evelyn was truly blinded by love.'

Thinking of which, Wendy had been quite unlucky. Not long ago, she had caught Amos making a phone call in a hidden corner of the studio. When they locked eyes, there was still a woman's voice calling him "honey" on the phone.

After that, Amos didn't come to the studio again. Whether Wendy went home after work, visited her parents, or went to Caspian's place, everything was normal. It wasn't like on TV where knowing a secret meant being followed and silenced. Of course, she wasn't naive enough to think Amos would just let her off the hook. She expected to run into him today, but in this unavoidable situation, she believed he would dare do anything here.

Alexander and the others chatted for a while before heading to the game room, while Lillian took her friends to the entertainment room.

Midway through, Wendy received a call from home. She took her phone and walked out to the yard to answer it.

"Wendy, why didn't you come home for the weekend? Are you at Caspian's place again?" Jessica asked unhappily over the phone.

"Mom, didn't I tell you on Facebook on Friday? I'm spending the weekend at Lillian's estate," Wendy said, exasperated.

Hearing this, Jessica said confidently, "Going to Lillian's estate means Caspian is there too, right? Isn't that the same as going to his place?"

"Fine, whatever you say." Wendy gave up arguing.

Jessica said, "Come home tomorrow. I introduced you to a young man who is remarkably handsome, far surpassing Caspian in looks. He'll be coming over tomorrow, so make sure to come home early."

'Just as Angela said before, even if I admit to my parents that "Caspian is not my boyfriend," they won't believe me.' Wendy thought.

"Mom, the estate is far from the city. Even if I leave early, the earliest I can get back is noon. Besides, I'm not going on a blind date. I won't meet him," Wendy firmly refused.

Jessica said, "Your father and I don't agree with Caspian being your boyfriend. You need to find someone else. Don't we have the right to decide on your boyfriend?"

"Of course not!" Wendy shouted angrily.

"Stop raising your voice at me!" Jessica moved the phone away and snapped at her.

Having a troublesome mother was frustrating for Wendy. But even more frustrating was her even more troublesome father.

At this moment, Caspian emerged from within, supporting himself with a crutch in one hand, hopping down the steps on one leg while saying into his phone, "Please don't be angry. Calm down and listen to me. I am with Wendy, but we're not alone; there are other friends here too. How could I share a room with her at night? I wouldn't dare. Even if I dared, I wouldn't do it!"

Caspian smiled and spoke politely into the phone, not noticing Wendy standing under the tree.

"Don't worry. My leg is much better. In another month, it should be almost healed. Yes, I usually stay home and behave." Caspian's attitude was respectful and polite towards the elder. "Wendy is an adult in her twenties with her thoughts. Yes, I know she's your daughter. Okay, I'll shut up now." He closed his mouth for a second and then said, "One last thing, stop treating her like a child."

Patrick must have said something else on the phone because Caspian kept nodding and responding like he was listening to a superior as if he and Wendy were a couple and he was being lectured by her father.

Wendy watched silently, her eyes welling up with tears.

Caspian looked up inadvertently and saw Wendy. He nodded at her as a greeting and then listened to a few more words before hanging up.

"Did my father call you again?" Wendy walked over, pouting and asking helplessly.

Caspian smiled and said, "It's been a while since your father nagged me, and hearing it now actually feels kind of comforting."

"Sorry. If I had told them the truth that we're not a couple, they wouldn't believe it, and you wouldn't have to suffer this," Wendy said, her eyes full of sincere apology.

"Why did you come out?" Caspian changed the subject.

Wendy held up her phone and said, "My mom just called me too."

"Head back early tomorrow morning. Your dad says this blind date has pretty good prospects. Go check it out; it's a chance." Caspian said.

Wendy's face immediately darkened, and she angrily asked, "Why are you siding with my parents?"

"Of course, it's for your good," Caspian said, tapping her forehead.

Wendy glared at him, her eyes filled with anger. She stood on tiptoe and slapped him on the forehead with a vengeful force. The slap was so hard that it knocked the unsteady Caspian backward, and he fell to the ground.

Wendy didn't care and walked away with big strides.
