Chapter 425 Pig-Shaped Chocolate

Wendy's heart skipped a beat, and she sat there dumbfounded.

Caspian tightly squeezed Wendy's hand and asked the doctor, "When is the surgery scheduled?"

"We will arrange the surgery as soon as possible. The patient needs to be emotionally comforted," the doctor said.

Caspian nodded, "We know that. We want the best surgeon for the operation."

"Rest assured, our doctors are highly skilled," the doctor replied confidently.

Wendy, no longer as despondent as when she first heard the bad news, gathered herself and asked the doctor, "Is this surgery risky?"

"All surgeries carry some risk, but the risk for breast cancer surgery is relatively low," the doctor said honestly.

"Thank you, doctor. We'll wait for the surgery," Wendy said.

She and Caspian left the office and slowly walked back to the ward.

"Wendy, it's okay. You heard the doctor; the risk isn't high. Don't worry," Caspian comforted her, gently patting her shoulder.

Wendy hesitated, "How should I tell Mom? I'm worried she'll be scared."

"I think we should just tell her directly. It's not something we can hide," Caspian said.

Wendy sighed, "I think so too. People get sick as they get older; it's unavoidable."

Back in the ward, Jessica and Patrick were chatting. Seeing them come in, Jessica asked, "You went out right after breakfast. Where did you go?"

Wendy said, "We went to the doctor's office."

"What did the doctor say? Can I be discharged?" Jessica asked.

Wendy sat down, looked at her mom, and mustered the courage to say, "We have to wait a bit longer for discharge. Mom, there's a problem with your health, and you need surgery."

"What's wrong with me?" Jessica immediately became nervous and asked in surprise.

Patrick, hearing this, also asked seriously, "Wendy, what illness does your mother have?"

"It's breast cancer."

Jessica was stunned, probably never expecting such a diagnosis.

Caspian said, "Jessica, don't be afraid. The doctor said the surgery isn't very risky."

Jessica murmured, "But it still has risk."

She looked at Patrick, her lips quivering, and started to cry, "Honey, what are we going to do? I have cancer!"

Patrick, with his injured arm, got out of bed, went over to her, sat on the bed, and held her in his arms, "It's okay, it's not a major surgery. Don't be afraid."

Jessica, overwhelmed, cried in Patrick's arms, "What if I don't make it through the surgery? How will you all manage? Wendy isn't even married yet, and I haven't held my grandchild. I don't want to die!"

"Mom, you won't die," Wendy said, crying as she held her mother's hand. "The surgery is simple; you'll be fine. Mom, don't cry. Once you're better, I'll listen to you. I'll go on dates and try to get married soon."

"Wendy, do you mean that?" Even in her moment of despair, Jessica's first concern was Wendy's love life.

Seeing this, Caspian quickly pulled Wendy up and said to Patrick, "Patrick, you comfort Jessica. I'll take Wendy out to calm down."

He took Wendy downstairs to the garden.

"Why did you bring me here?" Wendy asked, her eyes red. "I want to be with my mom."

"Dry your tears before you go back," Caspian said, wiping her tears with the back of his hand, smiling.

Wendy turned her head slightly, blushing with a bit of shyness.

"My mom's illness is probably my fault. I didn't go on dates or find a partner, which made her angry. Anger is bad for the breasts; it's all because of me," she said, blaming herself.

Caspian said, "Everyone upsets their parents sometimes. You've been very good, and obedient since you were little. It's normal for people to get sick as they age; it's not your fault."

Wendy pursed her lips, "Caspian, you're good at comforting people. I'm so glad you're here; otherwise, I don't think I could handle this."

Caspian smiled, watching people pass by. He noticed a girl holding a chocolate shaped like a bunny, which was very cute.

"Wait here for a bit; I'll be right back," he said, then ran off.

"Where are you going?" Wendy called after him.

"Wait for me!"

At the hospital entrance, in front of a chocolate shop, stood three or four girls. There were several animal-shaped chocolates on display. Caspian looked around and picked one.

Wendy sat in the corridor, playing with her phone, waiting for Caspian to return. Suddenly, a pig-shaped chocolate appeared in front of her. She looked up in surprise.

"Did you buy this?" she asked, smiling as she took the chocolate.

Caspian sat down and asked, "Do you like it?"

"It's cute," Wendy said, looking at it, reluctant to eat it. "Why did you buy this for me?"

"I saw other girls buying it and thought you might like one too. Sweets can help when you're feeling down."

"Thank you, Caspian," Wendy said with a smile, taking a bite of the pig's snout.

The chocolate stuck a bit to her lips. Wendy licked it off, looking adorably innocent.

Caspian tightly pressed his lips together, feeling a surge of emotion, and turned away to avoid looking at her.

In the ward, Patrick had been comforting Jessica for a long time, but with little success.

"Honey, do you know where our bank cards are?"

"And where to pay the utility bills?"

"I want to tell you some important things before the surgery."

Jessica was very pessimistic, feeling she wouldn't survive the surgery.

At this moment, Wendy and Caspian returned.

Jessica ordered them, "I need to talk to your dad. You two wait outside; I'll call you in one by one."

"Mom, what are you doing?" Wendy asked, displeased, feeling like her mom was preparing for the worst.

Patrick said to them, "Go outside for now."

Jessica started to tell Patrick all the details about the household.

"Caspian, doesn't this feel like we're waiting for an interview?" Wendy said, sitting on a bench outside the ward, suddenly finding it amusing.

"Really? I feel like we're waiting to register for marriage," Caspian said casually.

Wendy looked at him seriously, "Caspian, that's not funny. Don't say such ambiguous things to me again, even as a joke."

Hearing this, Caspian suddenly wondered if his previous "nice words" had hurt her.

At that moment, Patrick came out of the ward and said to Caspian, "It's your turn."
