Chapter 88 Returning to the Country

Lillian followed Alexander back to the villa. After returning to the room, she took a shower, dried her hair, and found Alexander already in bed.
She hesitated for a moment and then asked, "Are you sleeping here tonight?"
"Where else? I'm exhausted. Could you not talk to me? Turn off the light!" Alexander replied, a hint of annoyance in his voice.
Lillian obediently turned off the light, then lay down on the bed, but under a separate blanket. She didn't sleep well last night, and tonight's events left her exhausted. Her body craved rest, but her mind was restless, replaying everything that had happened in Biarritz.
"Alexander, are you asleep?" she asked, unable to contain her curiosity. There was no response, just the sound of his gentle breathing.
Lillian inquired, "Alexander?" She hesitated, then turned to him and softly called his name again, "Your kindness to me these day—it's not just an act. You wanted Rhett to see, didn't you?"
Alexander remained motionless, his eyes closed, seemingly asleep.
"Let him think you care about me, that I'm your weakness. He'll take action, using me to force you to sign the transfer agreement. It was all part of your plan. Rhett is a fool, falling right into the trap you set," Lillian said, her tone tinged with sarcasm.
"Alexander, you're so cunning. Does your father know?" she asked, a hint of mockery in her voice. "But how did you make sure your father saw what happened on the boat? Did someone secretly record it? Everyone on the boat is Rhett's subordinate."
"If you keep talking, I'll throw you out!" Alexander said coldly.
"You think you're safe, but you have so many adversaries watching your every move," Lillian chuckled self-deprecatingly.
Without pausing for his reply, she went on, "It's unfortunate you're not in acting. At times, I struggle to distinguish between your genuine and feigned emotions of affection, concern, guilt, and happiness."
"Fake!" Alexander's response was immediate and unequivocal.
"In fact, I know it's fake," Lillian replied.
Alexander asked, "Are you done? I'm tired!"
Lillian said, "One last question," Lillian didn't beat around the bush, "Was it really just a coincidence that you were drugged last night?"
"Do you want to see Samantha being drugged and sleeping with another man, only to be discovered by Quinn? To let the bad guys have their way?" Alexander opened his eyes, turned his head to look at Lillian, and said coldly, "Some things are not as simple as you think. Don't be so clever. If you can't sleep, go to the sofa in the living room, and don't disturb me here!"  Alexander finished, turning over.
Lillian closed her eyes deeply and turned silently as well. Lillian thought, 'How deep was Alexander's scheming? What seemed like a simple situation was actually much more complicated. Had he been on guard since he set foot in Biarritz? Perhaps being drugged was just something he didn't anticipate.'
In the following days, there were no rumors in the family. Quinn had been staying in a private hospital, and his condition was stable. Today, they were going back to the country.
During the return flight, Lillian gazed out the window at the clouds, her demeanor starkly different from when she had first arrived. Quinn sat beside Samantha while Daisy, oblivious to the situation, inquired of Alexander why Eliana's family wasn't traveling on the same flight as them.
Of course, Rhett couldn't run. Quinn's four bodyguards escorted him back to the country and treated him very well. Eliana and Freya were with him, their faces showing concern.
After getting off the plane, Eliana's family returned home. As soon as they arrived, Freya asked anxiously, "What went wrong? Wasn't everything planned out? What will happen now that Quinn knows?"
Eliana was also angry and questioned her son, "How did Quinn find out? Is it the people you brought with you, or did someone betray us before?"
Rhett rubbed his forehead irritably, "Don't keep asking me; let me calm down, okay? I'm really annoyed!"
Eliana looked at Freya and told her to go back to her room. Only Eliana and Rhett were left in the living room.
Eliana's tone softened a bit as she asked, "Rhett, think about it. We had everything planned out. What went wrong? Who sent the live broadcast to Quinn? And these days, nothing has been reported from your subordinate."
"It's either Alexander himself or someone has been bought off!" Rhett gritted his teeth. "Those fools below, they're so opportunistic. They see me losing status at home, and suddenly, they're not as diligent in their work!"
Eliana said, "Alexander is not that stupid. It would let Quinn know. This time, we underestimated the enemy!"
"Mom, what should I do now? How can I make Quinn forgive me?" Rhett asked in frustration.
Eliana thought for a moment and said, "This matter can't be rushed. The more you try to seek forgiveness, the more Quinn will dislike you! Calm down for a while; let Quinn take care of his health. Later, I'll see if I can help you plead your case." She sighed, "Because of you, Quinn doesn't like me now."
"I will definitely get my revenge!" Rhett said.
"Son, there's always opportunity for revenge. We can wait!" Eliana advised.
Lillian followed Alexander back to Yonker Villa. Lucas was so happy, jumping and hanging on Alexander.
"Alexander, I missed you so much. Why did you and Lillian come back so late?" The little guy asked with a smile, "What gifts did you and Lillian bring me?"
Alexander patted his head and asked, "Have you been good at home these days? Did you make Kelly unhappy?"
"No, I've been good. You can ask Kelly." The little guy said proudly, raising his head.
Oscar, seeing Lillian looking a little tired, said with concern, "Lillian, you must be tired. Let me help you take the suitcases back to the room."
Kelly came out of the kitchen and said, with a smile, "Come, you two, come and eat a Maine lobster roll."
They didn't refuse and walked towards the dining room, one going through the dining room and into the kitchen.
Kelly's Maine lobster roll was delicious. Lillian took a bite and praised, "Kelly, you're a great cook. I've been craving your food since Biarritz."
"What do you want to eat tonight? I'll make something you love. I see you've lost weight."
Lucas ran into the dining room and said to Kelly, "Kelly, Alexander asked if he doesn't like Maine lobster rolls."
After Lucas finished, he looked at Lillian and said, "Lillian, Alexander wants to eat your New Orleans fried chicken."
