Chapter 231 Shae Has Changed a Lot
Evelyn stared at her, speechless. "My studio needs professionals, and you're not a fit. Plus, I don't need more staff right now."
Shae, catching the disdain in her voice, snapped, "Evelyn, ever since I confessed to Alexander, you've been distant. Do you think I shouldn't have done it?"
Evelyn sighed, "Shae, since you asked, I'll be honest. Alexander grew up with us, so it's natural you like him. Before, Amy was in the picture, so you didn't have a chance. After Amy passed, you went abroad and barely saw him. I know you still have feelings for him."
Shae cut her off angrily, "What are you trying to say? I don't want to hear about the past. I hate it!"
Evelyn was taken aback, thinking, 'Why is she so upset over a few memories?'
"Fine, let's focus on now," Evelyn continued. "Alexander is married and expecting a child. Pursuing him isn't right. Do you really want to be the one who breaks up his family?"
"Yes, if it means getting Alexander back, I'll be that person! What's so strange about that? I like him. Shouldn't I do whatever it takes? He was mine first!" Shae declared confidently.
Evelyn was shocked. "Shae, do you hear what you're saying? Where are your morals?"
"I have none!" Shae fumed. "Stop acting superior, Evelyn. We've seen plenty of immoral things growing up. I'm only telling you this because I consider you a friend. How are you any better than me?"
"What do you mean by that?" Evelyn demanded. "What have I done that's immoral?"
Shae sneered. "I won't comment on your affairs. Just stay out of mine if you still consider me a friend. If you do, put in a good word for me with Alexander. I'll remember your kindness."
Evelyn looked at her in disbelief. "Shae, what happened to you? You're not the same person I knew."
"The old Shae is gone!" Shae said with a twisted expression, gritting her teeth.
Evelyn was scared and didn't know what to say. They ate in silence. Evelyn, still concerned, tried to persuade her, "Shae, how about I set you up with someone else? There are plenty of great guys in Ridgewood, not just Alexander. What do you think?"
"No. My heart is set on Alexander," Shae refused flatly.
Evelyn, frustrated, asked mockingly, "Then tell me, how do you plan to win him over? He doesn't like you!"
"He doesn't like me now, but that could change," Shae said with a sinister smile. "Evelyn, help me, and I'll owe you."
Her creepy smile gave Evelyn chills. 'Where's this confidence coming from?' she wondered.
"Shae, let it go. If you push Alexander too far, he'll cut you off," Evelyn warned.
"If you're not helping, then stop lecturing me," Shae snapped. "Stay out of my business from now on!" Her eyes burned with anger.
Evelyn frowned, feeling like she was looking at a madwoman. Shae's eyes seemed off.
She shivered. "Let's eat. The food's getting cold."
After the meal, they left the restaurant.
Evelyn asked, "Did you drive? I can give you a ride if you don't."
"I drove," Shae said, pressing her car key, and making the lights of a red car flash.
Shae added, "Evelyn, I might've been harsh earlier. Don't take it to heart. I still see you as a friend. I hope you understand my situation."
Evelyn replied, "I hope you figure things out soon and stop making mistakes."
They each drove away, their friendship seemingly parting ways too.
After work, Alexander returned to Sinclair Villa.
As soon as he walked in, Linda asked, "Where's Lillian? Why are you alone?"
"Lillian's not feeling well, so I didn't bring her," Alexander said, sitting next to Linda with a smile. "Grandma, I came to see you. Doesn't that count?"
"How is that the same? She's carrying my great-grandchildren! Is she unwell again? Did she eat the supplements I sent?" Linda asked, concerned.
"She ate some," Alexander said. "Her belly's gotten bigger, and it's been tough on her, so I didn't push her."
Samantha walked over and said sarcastically, "She's not from a wealthy family, so why is she so delicate? Just because she's pregnant, the whole family has to cater to her."
"Mom," Alexander said, annoyed. "Can you not be so harsh? She's my wife, pregnant with twins for the Sinclair family. She's going through a lot. Be kinder to her."
Linda added, "Samantha, Alexander's right. You come from a wealthy family too. When you were pregnant with Alexander, how did I treat you? Be kinder to Lillian. Even Ethan doesn't like your harshness!"
Feeling criticized, Samantha quickly apologized, "Alright, it's my fault. You're both right. I'll leave you two to talk."
Alexander asked, "Where are Dad and Grandpa?"
Linda replied, "They went fishing and will stay overnight."
Linda then asked, "Alexander, I saw the media reports about your marriage. I'm very happy. When do you plan to have the wedding?"
Alexander smiled. "We plan to have it after the baby is born. Don't worry, Grandma, we won't let Lillian be wronged."
