Chapter 389 Poor Mr. Wellington

Lillian became interested and excitedly said, "Really? Mr. Wellington's gossip, I want to hear it too."

Kelly laughed and said to Gina, "Everyone loves to hear it. Why don't you start from the beginning for Lillian?"

While picking at the vegetables, Gina asked Lillian a bit guiltily, "Lillian, is it okay for me to talk about Mr. Wellington when he's not around?"

"We're just chatting, not saying anything bad about him," Lillian's eyes twinkled as she smiled and said, "This is just my way of showing concern for a friend."

Gina pursed her lips and slowly began, "There's nothing much about Mr. Wellington. It's mainly Donna Hall, his mom, who's quite peculiar."

"What?" Lillian looked puzzled, waiting for Gina to continue.

Gina said, "I heard that the Wellington family rose to prominence thanks to Donna's family. In the Wellington family, Donna's word is law; she makes all the decisions."

"Wow! That's really domineering."

Gina nodded, "Extremely domineering. She's not just like that at home; she doesn't show respect to anyone outside either. I heard the Hall family is very powerful, directly under Atlanter. Marrying into the Wellington family was really a step down for her."

"Donna is not only domineering but also very capable. One year, the Wellington family business was sabotaged by a traitor and fell into a slump. It was Donna who used various means to save the Wellington family, get it back on track, and defeat the traitor, eventually securing her position as chairman. This incident was very sensational at the time. When people talk about Donna, they all give her a thumbs up."

"She's an idol!" Lillian's eyes sparkled with admiration.

"To outsiders, Donna is strong and capable, a blessing to the Wellington family. But to the family members, having such a person around is almost like living in hell," Gina shook her head helplessly and said, "The Wellington family has three siblings, with Mr. Wellington being the youngest. He has an older sister and brother. Their marriages were all arranged by their mother. Donna likes Mr. Wellington the most, so she's naturally very picky about his choice of partner."

"Yeah, that's true," Lillian agreed, thinking about how Samantha had been so critical of her in the past.

"Mr. Wellington previously dated a girlfriend who was his college classmate. She was great in many ways, and her family was much better off than ordinary families. But in front of the Wellington family, she was nothing. Donna naturally looked down on her and used some rather despicable means to break them up."

"Mr. Wellington must have been very heartbroken," Lillian asked sorrowfully.

Gina said, "Mr. Wellington fell seriously ill and became estranged from his mother. Donna had planned for him to take over the company in the future, but after this incident, Mr. Wellington switched from studying finance to law, and after graduation, he became a lawyer and stopped managing the family business."

"What Donna did was really too much," Lillian sighed, "Poor Mr. Wellington."

Gina sighed along with her and continued, "Over the years, Donna has been anxious about her son not finding a partner and keeps introducing him to women. Mr. Wellington, on the other hand, doesn't refuse and will see if he clicks with any of them. You'd think it would be a good thing for Mr. Wellington to have a stable relationship, right? But Donna can't stay out of it and tries to control Mr. Wellington's girlfriends too. Who would put up with that? So they all left Mr. Wellington finally."

Lillian clicked her tongue, "How could it be like this?"

"Didn't Mr. Wellington resist?" Lillian asked again.

Gina shrugged, "With such a domineering mom, can he successfully resist? Donna is getting older and more unreasonable. Mr. Wellington isn't the type to be unfilial, and he's not very interested in relationships, so he just let it drag on."

After hearing this, Lillian was really surprised by Mr. Wellington's tumultuous love life and was left speechless.

Kelly came over and said, "Alright, the story's over. Let's go out; dinner is almost ready."

Lillian replied and left the kitchen. She thought to herself, luckily Angela has a boyfriend. If she were dating Mr. Wellington, she'd have to deal with his mom!

When the dinner started, Wendy arrived.

"Wendy, come sit next to me," Tom called out to her playfully.

Wendy smiled but sat between Lillian and Angela instead. Caspian was on the same side, so she couldn't see him.

"Did your parents say anything about you coming over tonight?" Lillian asked.

Wendy said, "No, they trust me when I come to your place."

"Have some more. Kelly had the chef make a special steak for you," Lillian said.

"I ate less at home just so I could have a feast here," Wendy laughed, picking up a piece of meat and putting it in her mouth.

The table was filled with good friends, laughing and chatting merrily.

Tom, being playful, targeted Wendy. Holding his wine glass, he said, "Wendy, you came late today. You have to drink three glasses as a penalty."

With her mouth full of meat, Wendy responded generously, "No problem."

She picked up her glass and drank three glasses in one go.

"Wendy is so straightforward," Tom cheered.

Lillian served her some food and smiled at Angela, saying, "Look at Wendy, she can really hold her liquor."

Before long, Tom called out to Wendy again.

"Wendy, should we have a drink together? I haven't seen you drink before; I thought you didn't drink," Tom said as he filled his glass.

Wendy asked, "If we're drinking, there should be a reason, right?"

"We're friends, and we have a good relationship. Let's drink to that," Tom said, raising his glass with a smile.

Wendy didn't refuse and downed her drink.

Although it was beer, Wendy usually drank very little when she went out with Lillian. Today, after four glasses, Wendy's cheeks were warm, and she was a bit tipsy.

"Tom, Wendy can't drink much. Why don't you pick someone else?" Lillian said to him.

Tom laughed and said, "Lillian, how about you and I have a drink?"

Before Lillian could respond, Alexander asked in a calm voice, "Do you want to drink with me?"

Seeing Alexander's stern expression, Tom said, "Alexander, we're just having a good time. What's wrong with me having a drink with Lillian? The way you're acting is just pathetic!"

"Wait until you can get me drunk, then you can despise me!" Alexander said dominantly.

Lillian laughed from the side, clapping her hands lightly, and said, "So handsome!"
