Chapter 411 Trading Love

Caspian cut her a piece of steak and consoled her, "Don't say that. What's done is done. Let's figure out how to minimize the loss. Learn from this and don't be foolish again."

Evelyn whispered, "Caspian, instead of saying this, you might as well just scold me."

She then curiously asked, "When did you start investigating him? What made you suspicious?"

Caspian took a sip of water and said, "I became suspicious because there were things to be suspicious about."

"He always had women outside, didn't he? He never loved me; he just wanted to scam money," Evelyn said painfully, covering her face.

Caspian sighed and told her, "Evelyn, don't be sad. When you look for a boyfriend in the future, keep your eyes open and pay attention. Before, Lillian and the others hinted at Amos's issues, but you didn't listen to anyone, so they couldn't say much more."

Evelyn covered her face and said muffledly, "I know. Looking back now, I realize how stubborn I was. I've suffered such a big loss that I don't want to fall in love again."

"Evelyn, don't say such silly things," Caspian pulled her hand down and said, "You still need to fall in love, and you still need to eat. Only when you're full do you have the strength to do everything."

He put the fork in her hand and coaxed her, "Eat a litter bit."

Evelyn obediently ate, and Caspian sat across from her, quietly watching. It had been a year since they broke off their engagement. Over this year, his initial obsession and unwillingness had settled into calm acceptance, giving him a surreal feeling.

He originally thought he would feel heartbroken and would ask to reconcile. But now, looking at her, he felt very calm. Of course, he still felt a bit of heartache for her, but it was a friendly kind.

Turns out time does heal all wounds. He just needed more time to move on.

Wendy couldn't sleep and was watching a show under the covers. Every few minutes, she would pick up her phone to check, but each time she felt disappointed.

She knew she was waiting for Aaron's call, but not for an explanation—the secret video was already a fact and couldn't be explained away. She was waiting for an apology!

Wendy laughed at herself and muttered, "Am I being overly naive? Will he apologize? If he wanted to apologize, he would have called already. I'm so stupid."

She looked at the time; it was already past midnight. She turned off her tablet and prepared to sleep.

Just as she closed her eyes, her phone buzzed on the pillow. She opened her eyes abruptly and grabbed the phone from the nightstand. It showed a voice call from Aaron.

She hesitated for a long time. The call had come, but she didn't dare to answer.

"Hello," Wendy finally pressed the answer button and said coldly.

Aaron's tone sounded so normal, as if nothing had happened. He laughed and asked, "Wendy, are you asleep?"

"Get to the point," Wendy said, her anger rising at his nonchalant tone.

Aaron chuckled and asked, "You know about the Instagram thing, right?"

"Are you calling to explain?" Wendy asked angrily.

Aaron said, "There's nothing to explain. It's exactly as it appears in the video."

"So why are you calling me? To show off? Or to laugh at me for being a fool?" Wendy said angrily. "I don't want to talk to you anymore. Don't ever contact me again!"

"Wendy, don't hang up. I have something to say," Aaron hurriedly stopped her.

Wendy took a deep breath and asked, "What else do you want to say? I'm not even holding you accountable for hurting me."

Aaron said, "Wendy, weren't you happy during our time together? I treated you well. I didn't hurt you."

"Deceiving my feelings doesn't count as hurting me? If this hadn't been exposed, you would have tricked me into marriage, right? How despicable can you be?"

"I just didn't tell you the truth; it's not exactly deceiving your feelings," Aaron's tone grew slightly impatient. "Let's not dwell on this. I have something else to discuss."

Wendy held the phone without speaking.

Aaron continued, "You were right; I did plan to marry you. But now that it's been reported, it's affecting everything. My grandfather is furious; my agent is worried my career is over. So, I'm calling tonight to ask you for a favor."

"Sorry, I can't help," Wendy said, about to hang up.

Aaron quickly said, "Wait, Wendy, don't hang up. Just hear me out; it won't take long."

He said, "I hope you can cooperate with me and put on a show for my grandfather and the media by marrying me! This way, I can prove my innocence, calm my grandfather, and continue my career. Wendy, if you agree, I won't treat you badly. You can name your conditions, and I'll meet them if I can."

Wendy's hand tightened around the phone, making a slight friction sound.

"Aaron, how shameless can you be? You want me to help you deceive everyone?"

Aaron chuckled dismissively, "What's wrong with that? When faced with difficulties, you have to find a way to solve them. If you're too embarrassed to name your conditions, I'll name them for you and see if you can accept them."

He cleared his throat and said, "I'll give you a monthly allowance. Travel, shopping, snacks, clothes, all expenses covered, including luxury items and designer bags. You have to accompany me to visit my grandfather and parents during the holidays. We won't live together, and you don't need to have children. Just register the marriage with me. After three years, we'll divorce. Of course, after the divorce, I'll give you a sum of money as compensation. How about that?"

Wendy was stunned. 'This is buying love, isn't it?'

"Wendy, this is practically free money. You don't have to do any work or sell your dignity. You just need to appear with me in public occasionally and make people think we're in love. Think about it."

Wendy gritted her teeth and righteously refused, "I don't need to think about it because I will never agree! I won't help you deceive the public; it would weigh on my conscience!" She finished speaking and angrily hung up the phone.
